I love visiting Encinitas. Moonlight beach is probably my favorite beach in California. The water is great! The waves are so perfect . People are calm. I thoroughly enjoy this beach.

Best overall beach in Encinitas. Perfect for people of all ages. Has everything! Volleyball courts, large concessions/food stand with beach rentals, main lifeguard Station/tower, wheelchair access to water, amazing cliff views, and a large city park playground, bathrooms and showers galore, both swim and surf areas, bonfire areas (limited). Can get VERY VERY crowded during the summer so get there early.

I took Santa Fe Star Liner from Orange county to Sonola beach with my bike and a friend of mine. We really enjoyed this beautiful beach area. Then we headed down to San Diego from here by bicycle via UC San Diego and stayed over night at San Diego. Its a very fun cycling tour.

It is a nice beach with good facilities. I want to give it five stars, but the homeless living there takes two stars away. Two are obvious, one is occupying one of the benches overlooking the beach, and another is starting to make camp in a tree covered area near the helipad.3 weeks later, most recent picture was 9-26-2020. Bench guy is still there. When I took the photo at 7:30am he was snoring. The guy in the tree covered area was lighting campfires. When I was there on 9-26, he lit a small fire. The fire dept was called out and the Sheriffs Dept took him away.The beach is nice and very popular. Be wary of the residentially impaired who are are now living there.

We walked in the relatively warm water on Moonlight Beach last night; the new Moon made a slight, sweet reflection on the ocean. The sand was so soft under our feet. It was a Sunday evening, but many people couldnt resist the beautiful, clean, long beach: a few other couples walked peacefully by us. The large bathrooms are well cared for, and the outside showers plenty.

Even though I live 4 blocks away I still enjoy this beach almost everyday. From the beautiful and iconic sunsets to the morning workouts or volleyball games there is always a reason to spend time at this local treasure. Make sure you do miss it when you visit or take it for granted if you are a local.

Beautiful place!! Parking is free, during the weekend may be harder to find a spot. The concession stand has GREAT healthy food (if you want) available. You can rent any beach item needed. College kids, families.... Everyone comes here.The cliffs help stop the wind/breeze if you want the warmth.We come from Orange County and glad we found this place.The sunsets are magnificent!!

Love this beach. It is clean and the other beach goers are friendly and helpful. It was clean and easy to get to. Even saw multiple people walking the beach, picking up trash as they went. Wish I could go here more often

Beautiful beach! Soft sand that was easy to come off when it was time to leave. GORGEOUS views. Nice strolling spot for adults and kids alike. Lots of areas to surf, fish, swim and just relax. Must visit for the area!

Got to the beach around 8:15am. Plenty of parking spaces and surfers. The morning fog was still thick and the weather was very cool and comfortable. We walked along the beach and stood in the water. There were a lot of people sitting and enjoying the beach. Moonlight beach is a very clean public beach.

Amazing experience with my grandkiddies. Beach was awesome, lifeguard station, playground, bathrooms, food, amazing people and so much more.

My favorite beach in North County, San Diego. Today was a little chilly but the sunset was gorgeous! It wasnt crowded at all and there was a guy making huge bubbles. So cool!

Great beach. They have clean restrooms, a snack bar with good food, outside showers, attentive life guards, volleyball courts, barbeques, & free parking. Get there early on a busy or warm weekend to get a parking spot. Walking distance from many restaurants on highway 101.

Very nice and popular beach in Encinitas where everyone hangs out. Parking here is not bad, they have a large free parking lot right above the beach, come early to get a good spot. The beach itself is pretty nice and the surrounding areas are well-maintained. They have a very nice snack bar area and Spray Station to wash your feet off. Very popular during the summer so it can get a bit packed but worth it to see it.

Great family beach, free, beautiful, clean, calm waves, not crowded, bathrooms, showers, playground (closed due to covid), snack shops, alot of free parking, alot of neerby restaurants to get some grub.Thank you Moonlight Beach for having us ♡

Moonlight is an amazing beach. Calm surf, endless sand, kiddie playground, a family restroom, and a concession stand right there. This beach was 8 minutes from my home. The sunrise and sunsets were my favorite part of the day.. I loved living in San Diego ♡

Nice life guards were right there keeping g eye on visitors everybody were keeping their distances.

Businesses and the locals there are very friendly and welcoming...if you want to relax and enjoy a lazy stroll and not be rushed or be afraid to be run over by bikes or scooters or by skateboarding fools...head to Moonlight beach and enjoy the sun and sand...then take a stroll through the neighborhood and work your way towards the shops and and various eateries...youll be amazed and return to enjoy more of this seaside treasure.

I absolutely love this beach! I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl. My son loves playing on the playground. It’s very clean and all the other families are very friendly. The beach is clean and it’s never been overcrowded when we visit. Encinitas is AWESOME! My 2nd home.

Great place ocean views

Small beach area but has bathrooms close by, playground for kids, a few picnic tables ( get there early especially on the weekends if you need one of the tables ) you can park near by on one of the side streets if you can find a place or it has a big parking lot although youve got to walk down & then up a lot of stairs - but you can easily drop people off at the beach before you go up & park. Summer time offers a snack shack and theres a life guard tower year round. Volley ball & bonfires also Beautiful little beach but can get crowded sometimes.

California coast is definitely hard to complain about. This beach is beautiful. It seems like a private beach because its really small and conveniently packed together with a cove, grass on a hill, an amazing parking lot, hint, go early, plenty of lifeguards, snack stands, restrooms, respectful people/families, and a lot of fun. Im glad its open now.

Tons of people until sunset but most were pretty spaced out. About 50% of people wearing masks while walking around between others...not great but not too bad.

This is hands down my favorite beach to visit when Im in California. Especially now that I have small children (2 and under). They have a large playground with restrooms and a concession stand. Its fabulous for families. And the beach itself is breathtaking. So lovely and its never super busy. We have enjoyed this beach for years and will definitely continue coming back.

One of my familys favorite beaches. Its clean, not overcrowded and has a large restroom area, volleyball courts and some grass areas. We usually walk up to grab pizza from Leucadias Pizza or Mexican food from Filibertos to eat on the beach and afterwards we love walking up to Handles to grab ice cream on the way home.

Clean, kids friendly and well maintained beach. I felt it has activities for people from all ages.Little kids can play on the sand. Youngsters can play volleyball and surf the waves. Parents can enjoy barbeque at the fire pits. Older folks can have a walk on the soft sand on this beach. It is really clean and well maintained.We really enjoyed the sunset at this beach. I had an hour long walk with my wife. We went on a weekday so it was not very crowded. It was pretty quiet and serene.This place has free parking which overlooks the ocean. FAMILY BEACH. Was crowded etc but one of the best beaches around for a family beach day with kids. Our daughter loves being around other kids. No surfing here. Very good and dedicated lifeguards here. Snack bar had some good sandies and wraps. Took forever but good beach food.

This is a wonderful Southern California beach destination. The beach itself is located below the costal cliffs overlooking the broad expanse of Pacific Ocean. The beach itself offers an opportunity for long and Scenic wet sand strolls and viewing of innumerable Surfers and standing paddle board aficionados. The beach also has a beautiful array of ocean tossed polished rocks to view. Take home a small rock as a memento!This Beach is near downtown Encinitas which offerus many great lunch restaurants including a selection of vegan option eateries which my wife and I often have to search for in other locations.

Almost a hidden gem of San Diego. Most tourists dont know about it so there are times where you can go and truly have a wonderful experience with out it being overly crowded. The beach is expansive and beautiful. The surf here seems to be amazing as there are always tons of people in the water trying to catch waves. Probably one of my top 5 spots in SD.

Still a very lovely Beach. However the crowds are intense on weekends, and with homeless people frequenting the area, it is not clean.

Wow! This beach was remarkably beautiful and clean. Enjoyed catching and releasing sand crabs :) We were here during a beautiful sunset with family, and will never forget the memories.

We love this beach! Very scenic. Bathrooms are usually pretty clean. And its nice to see competitive volleyball games.

One of the cleanest beaches in SD forsure, volleyball courts, snack bar, family restrooms, clean restrooms as well. The parking lot is a nice size along with street parking in the surrounding areas. Its very kid friendly and toddler friendly. The beach itself is very very clean I recommend 10/10 this is 3rd time I gone and even with all the new covid regulations the beach is still fun. The playground and fire pits are closed but when it is open it is a fun area for the kids and fire pits for the adults especially at night. The parking lot is up above overlooking down to the water and beach and the lifeguard have there post along with the actual lifeguard facilities on site over looking the beach itself. The water is very clean and you can see pretty deep. Small surf point for surfers though and wouldnt recommend surfing there the waves dont get to high in this location

Love this beach! Always a great atmosphere, occasionally a bit crowded but never have a negative encounter. Only giving 4 stars because there seems to be more rocks on the beach than there were on previous visits.

Perfect place for a beach run or walk during low tide. Very flat and wide, 2.4 miles to the beginning of South Ponto beach, and 2.8 miles to the jetty.

Great beach. I have been coming since I was a child. It does get really crowded and parking can be a bear at times but clean and well located.

Water, sand, yoga, surfing, kids, dogs, life guards, and more. Everything you would except to find at a beach.

The beach is awesome!!! Water is so clear thanks to US nature’s conservation laws !!! The parking availability might be a problem on weekends but overall it’s a very unforgettable experience about this California Pacific Ocean Beach!!!!!

Moonlight is always a great beach to hit up when in San Diego. One of my favorites. Not as many walking around shops nearby compared to Carlsbad Village Beach or Pacific Beach but all are great spots to stop and get some beach time.

Roped off picnic tables but the night was beautiful and the crashing waves were a great accompaniment to our Juanitas burritos!

Was way to crowded, and now it looks like, well there are 3 + bum cars and vans theyve taken homage to a few spots at the lookout you have to wait way long to park Check the waves or kick back. However, beautiful beach and water is always there to check

Really pretty beach with cliffs and palm trees and best of all it has about 40 ft of Beach that is about knee level before it gets deep which is great for the little ones. Nice clean restrooms and concessions stand with decent nearby parking.

Very nice, easy to park and most folks distancing, wearing masks, when needed.

This is a must visit when you are free to do so

The beach is too rocky. And, it felt kind of dirty. We did enjoy the benches on top of the cliffs. Beautiful view of the ocean and great sea breeze. Just remember, dont feed the wildlife!

One of my favorite beaches in the area. Had a low enough tide to walk south to Swamis and back without scrambling on slippery rocks. Anemones and tiny crabs all over.

Beautiful view. Found perfect parking with a front seat view of the neach, surfers, and individuals just enjoying the evening.

Get here early to find a parking spot and enjoy the day at the beach. Clean restrooms and showers and a few minute walk to Main Street where you can check out the local shops.

Love it! Great plece with a great view, however is kind of crowded, so youll have to be early to have a good point to see the sunset.Parking is kind of crazy as well, so if you are not in luck, you will have to park close and walk to the point!Highly recommended!The are nearby is full of good restaurants and tastes! So, be ready for a great time watch the sunset and have great bite afterwards!

This is a very clean and nice beach. It has very minimal litter. And has surf camps too. It also has a snack shack rentals place and a parking lot. This beach is very walkable from the downtown of Encinitas. Overall great beach 5 stars.

Great family beach. Playground steps away from the water. Volleyball area, fire pits, concession stand, on some days (if youre lucky) you can even see the dolphins in the distance. Also, a great place to watch the sunset.

I was here on the 4th of July and I simply loved it! My first time seeing waves that high. Florida was weak, Lol.Beautiful crowd, nice friendly people and clean! I’m going to go out again a few times before I head back home to Michigan this week.

POPULAR BEACH ! My wife and I put in a big bike ride today to the edge of Carlsbad......about 21 miles round trip to Solana Beach. We stopped along the way to take a few pics of the beaches. Moonlight Beach in the heart of Encinitas always looks a treat. There were quite a few people on the beach while we were there !

Great local beach. Good parking options near the entrance. Wasnt busy in November probably is during summer months. This place has beach volleyball, restrooms, rentals, concessions, fire pits and rinse off showers.

My favorite beach. Tucked away, has a large free parking lot. Lots of street parking. Usually plenty of space on the beach right there, but if not, you can walk down to the water and the walk north or south to find a more secluded spot.Food at beach is actually quite good. I really liked the sandwiches. Bathrooms are pretty good considering they are a beach, and there are plenty of shower/rinse stations.

Perfect to relax and watch the spectacular sunset. I always visit when in town for business. Crowd is a great mix of families and surfers.

Great beach to take the family to. It has a small playground near the restrooms and showers. I must get lucky parking because I usually do not have trouble finding something near by. A lot of places near by to grab something to eat after as well

I hate to tell people about this beach because it still doesnt get to crowded, but seriously great sand, waves and fun loving people.
