I am probably not the best person to objectively judge this place considering Im infatuated with it. For someone visiting for the first time probably nothing will stand out. Yet there are so many amenities here - pool is pretty nice, there is a huge gym and ice rink is magical in the winter.Their youth programs are pretty good. Considering they have mentioned amenities (pool, gym, ice rink) they are able to take kids for lots of extra activities.

Customer service here sucks. They gave my son a hard time when he came. Upper management needs to have a customer service in service for the staff. Include the supervisors.

The Elmhurst Y is such a wonderful place, it was actually part of why I chose to live in the area! The range of programs offered, at affordable prices, just cannot be beat! The deeply-rooted focus of the Y is the same, to help bring solid programs to ALL, including those who otherwise could not afford them. I believe this key is a treasure in helping create friendships that can even last a lifetime. There is a great range of ages and talents. So all can feel welcome, and not like they cannot compete. The Y does a good job of offering a variety of ages/ranges for their programs.I love my Y!

I have been going here for about 2 years as it is very close to my house and super convenient. The staff is pretty friendly and for the most part the locker rooms and gym area are both pretty clean. There was an incident a while back with one of the kids room attendants where she was shaming a year and a half old boy for soiling his diaper...she went to call the mom and when she came to change her son, the attendant was covering her nose with her shirt and complaining to another parent about how bad the kid smells. Wish I could remember her name...

This facility has nice amenities but the executive director, some staff personnel and Y members will leave you with the feeling of not being welcomed here. I had a Y member approach my children on May 29th and tell them they werent supposed to be there. Since it was mid-day, I figured Id have my concerns addressed with the director because she was in office. In telling her about my concerns, she proceeds to tell me about the Y policy and asking about my kids ages etc. I told her that I did not think it was appropriate for another member to approach a child and tell them they dont belong at the Y. If a member has a concern about another member or a childs safety, the should take that concern to staff and let them address the situation. She never gave the opinion that she thought it was inappropriate for a Y member to approach another Y member with issues. Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed.

Staff gets mad when you play full court basketball, when you show a friend a workout, and are always trying to make everything a lesson

My 7 year old son has been going here for the after school program and summer camp for the last 3 years. I absolutely love this place. I am a single mom and work full time and they have been a life saver for me. I trust them completely with my baby and he has made some awesome friends here. My son loves this place. He complains if I pick him up early. Derek Schlager is amazing. He has a full plate of dealing with all of the kids, their parents and his team, yet he always makes time for my issues and questions. This place would not be the same with out him! Thank you Derek!

Children are not being protected in the only area they are allowed to go to change in and families are not being respected. The new co-ed changing area is now being utilized by teenage boys unaccompanied by any parent and yesterday my 11 year old daughter and I had a run in with a grown man who was accompanied by 0 children and was showering in the family co-ed locker room. After confronting this man, who told me he forgot his lock therefore he felt entitled to shower and change in the family locker room (where lockers are equipped with locks) I went marching to the staff at the front desk, completely upset and shaken. After expressing this incident I was told to calm down and they would investigate. I went with them to confront this man and was agast that their response to this situation was that it was anhonest mistake. What about being a grown man showering in a family style locker room where young children are changing and vulnerable is a mistake? Keeping in mind young children are not able to go to any other area to change. This man has an entire locker room set up for himself but this is brushed aside. So if my 11 year old was showering and preparing to swim, which she is able to do on her own according to the rules and regulations of the Y, She would have to deal with this situation on her own. This lack of concern for the children is appalling to me and the explanation I was given was that there is confusion over the new family locker room is unacceptable. I expressed my concern that there were not adequate signs to clarify this change to members who use that locker room with their children and also for children who are not able to interpret the changes or know to read these high posted signs. If children and families are to use the locker room it should be made clear that children may include 17 year old young men passing by young girls and showering in the same proximity. Changes need to made. Possibly an attendant set up to ensure the safety of our children who are members there. Shame on you staff, for being so dismissive when the rules are blatantly ignored and putting any child at risk to handle a situation that is so uncomfortable alone.

My son has been going to the YMCA for summer camp and after school care for the past year and he absolutely loves it. I knew that hed been taking swim lessons in the afternoons after Kindergarten was over, but I didnt realize how far hed come until we went up to Lake Geneva and he could swim across the pool all by himself. Hes also learned to ice skate, and it turns out those skills have helped him pick up rollerblading when hanging out with his sister at home.He loves the teachers there and they seem to love him. Ive never seen anyone with a negative attitude while Im there picking him up or dropping him off.I feel like the YMCA is really an Elmhurst treasure and would absolutely recommend it to any parent trying to figure out how to handle child care issues around half day kindergarten.
