I brought my two young kids with me and they were more than entertained and engaged. Extremely friendly staff! Andy, who was in charge of the model train building, was very welcoming and knowledgeable in the history of the rail line. It’s a smaller museum in comparison to its big sister in Baltimore, but it contains just as much history and definitely holds its own.

We enjoy visiting the museum, but theres not much to hold the attention of kids who dont love trains. I enjoy the history that is shared. The train gardens over the holidays were basic, but fun to see (especially for little ones). We look forward to the caboose being restored, as that has been my kids favorite place in the museum.

The museum itself was pretty nice. It was better than I expected. The train garden there was really nice and very detailed. The biggest thing I didnt like was their lack of trains. Its definitely worth a visit but the B&O Museum in Baltimore is a whole lot better.

This free museum was surprisingly super fascinating and deserving of a visit. Also deserving of a donation. The tiny train set and real life caboose are fantastic. Its more than worth a visit. Lots of antique stereoscopes with 3d vintage photos. Loved it!

If like trains and American history, the B&O Station Museum in Ellicott City is a MUST see. Different programs throughout the year, PLUS the big Christmas model train display over the holidays. And afterwards you can spend the rest of the day exploring the shops and restaurants in town. A great way to spend a day!

This place is really cool especially if you have kids. My daughter loves the place. We spent an hour in the caboose and probably another hour looking at the Lego train. It is not a huge place though so unless you have a two year old who doesnt mind doing the same thing over and over again dont plan on spending more that an hour or two there.

This is such a fun little historic museum. Ive enjoyed multiple visits. They host many events, my favorite being the Lego display around Christmas. Theres a real caboose you can walk inside and a cool model display of the town from Ellicott to the Baltimore station. Its a fun educational stop for the kids and the family. Definitely worth a look.

Thats a good experience I have here to know about how the railways worked in earlier generation. The setup of toy trains and miniature is awesome. The old train coach and ticket teller counter reminds you the old movies. You can wrap everything in 1 hr. Its just located at the bank of the floating patalalo river.

I had no idea this place existed. We met friends for lunch in Ellicott City and just happened on this small museum. Its free, but Id pay $10 for it. I think its the only intact 1800s era railway station left in the US. You can see the station masters quarters and the ladies waiting lounge (separate from the mens). Theres a telegraph that you can try out, a bell to ring on the platform and a large model train set. Fun for all!

The museum is fairly small but provides an interesting look into the past. There are a few interactive exhibits but for the most part its very reading heavy. They have a large model train environment set up that has some narration built in which is neat. Theres also a caboose you can go inside and look around in. Its a cute museum that I imagine would be great for someone already interested in the topic. But I personally didnt come out with much more of an appreciation for the railroads than I had going in.

The first rail station in the U.S. The first train traveled from Baltimore to Ellicott (Mills) City. The station shows what life was like back then, the living quarters, the mail and telegraph office, the areas where train cars were worked on - its all here! And dont forget the holiday train garden coming in December!

I stumbled on this museum by accident, but was really impressed. They have restored part of the building to what it looked like as a station Keepers residence and other parts as a terminal. It tells some great stories about the earliest railroads and how important they were to Everyday Life. Its great for kids and adults.

Been here multiple times in past but first since Howard County Recreation and Parks took over and reopened on Oct 6. Yes its small but now its also free and there is a lot of information. They had the back room on the second floor closed off getting ready for the holiday train set up! Check it out in December as word on the street is it might be the last year for the LEGO train garden.

Most of Old Ellicott City has been devastated by flood waters but the B&O station survived. It is open and free to the public. If youve never been, do yourself a favor and visit. Its great for children, especially in late fall/early winter when their winter train garden is up.

This is a great place around the hidays for kids. There were several model train layouts with two done in Legos exclusively. The others were G scale, N gauge, and O scale with a Thomas the Tank Engine theme complete with Thomas episodes running. Beyond all of that is the history of Marylands train station. Plenty of artifacts and displays to please the history buff and rail fan.The museum features an HO scale layout of the line from Baltimore to EC that is quite interesting and informative. Top off the visit with the caboose and wait for a real train to thunder by.The only drawback is that the museum caters a bit too much to children. The adult railfan will enjoy a visit but will need to navigate past the rather youth centered ambiance. The gift shop is mostly toys and trinkets for the tots. The railroad viewing is sonewhat limited be the fence and bench positions. Best viewing is up the tracks from the museum where you can get better angles as the trains swing by the station.

This place is great! For $10 my 5 year old and I spent almost two hours looking at the model train displays (the Xmas-time Lego layout upstairs is simply amazing, and the display in the mechanicss shed is just as great), role-playing inside the old caboose, and watching two actual freight trains roll by. This a facility where you should bring your imagination, and an already acquired love of trains to fully engage with what is offered here. Its not even near the scale of the B&O in Baltimore City, but it doesnt pretend to.
