I have driven by this many times. But because my grandson needed the restroom, we stopped. We ended up exploring the trail around the lake. The scenic value surprised me too. Several people were fishing. Some just relaxing. A bench here and there gives a person a chance for some repose. I noticed future plans for an interpretive center for Yakima Canyon. A bronze memorial also had interesting history of the Inland Empire Highway.

Helen McCabe State Park is a spot where there is opportunity to stretch your legs with a clean maintained restroom. There is no fee however a discover pass is required. There is a nice trail around the lake with several benches scattered along the way.The lake itself has a couple of developed fishing that can be accessed easily. Tthe state stocks the lake with trout and in the spring the fishing is good. Next time youre traveling to Yakima take the time to stop here for a bit of relaxation and some fishing.

Great fishing around the times they stock it in the spring. Regularly catch 10-14 trout. Fishing will get slow a while after theyve stocked it. Fishing from small boat/kayak seems to be the best.

Beautiful for walking and nature watching! Nice trail system and you can tell that the Kittitas Environmental Education Network is taking care of it and working on improvements.
