Too bad they dont take care of this place, it could be a really nice park.We paid to spend the night in the camping area. We immediately found that the grass (especially near the beach) was full of thorns. DO NOT WALK BARE FOOT or let your dog walk in the grass without checking the area. The water hookup at the site was unusable. In a pit (not a standard frost free faucet) and the valve was stuck closed.Next were the spiders. The entire picnic shelter was covered with huge spider nests. In the morning we were woken up by multiple barking dogs across the lake at the houses there that never stopped. The dump station is just a pipe sticking out of the ground with no rinse water and a mess from previous users plastered all over the pavement. The restrooms had hot water, and the doors worked, but that was the only thing good about them. The water valve in the womens side shower had to be held in to use and the mens only stayed on for 5 seconds. The floor in the shower was nasty with slime because the floor doesnt drain property.
Hidden little gem, just south of Elk City,OK. Five camping spots beside city lake. Electric on site, water and dump at SE corner. $15 a night, can’t beat it for a relaxing stop over nestled right up to the lake. Toys for the kids, plenty of room for the pups to romp off some energy, just very relaxing.
It was very nice. Quiet, showers were very clean and hot. Best of all it was free.
Beautiful place to stop by if you are driving through or want to go fishing. The wind was brutal when we stopped in late June. Constant 25 mph winds rocked our van through the night but it was otherwise very peaceful. The park driving loop is a nice 15-20 minute walk and there is also a trail to hike or mountain bike.5 RV parking spots available for $15/night. Electric only, 30 and 50 amp available. Did not see water available. There was a dump station to use. No tank flushing.
Great place for an overnight stop. RV hook ups for $15/night
This is a great little park to nab a stopover with electric when traveling. There are 5 sites with electric and water (water is underground, look for blue caps) that are generously provided by the city. Shop local in exchange! There’s a great Route 66 museum in town too! You can stay 4 days, and there’s usually abundant birds on the lake.
We camped here in our RV. Very nice park for the $15/night price tag. The site has a 20/30/50 amp pedestal. The five RV sites are first come first served, and you pay at a money box. We did not see an attendant. There were plenty of sites available when we arrived at 11AM, but they all filled up by early evening.Water is a little tricky to find. There are a couple of manholes in the grass near the RV sites labeled water meter with the hose bibb below. You might need a 50 hose if you want to fill your tank directly. The dump station here is the most absurdly laid out one I have ever seen. Its at the top of a hump, which makes it virtually impossible to park your rig with the dump valve at the low point. The lake is beautiful with a boat launch, dock, ample opportunities for fishing, day use picnic tables with grills, and a trail running around the perimeter.
Fantastic FREE site, 5 electric hookups & boondock/tent on other side of lake. Located on a picturesque lake, extraordinary sunsets & sunrises. Watched sunrise out huge back window while laying in bed. Very hot shower (felt wonderful)! Area is very well kept. If were through here again will absolutely be staying here! Thank you for providing a wonderful experience!
Great place for an overnight stop while traveling through the area. Quiet and peaceful at night. The lake was home to lots of bird life. It was fun to watch the water fowl. Sunset was awesome. Had electric hookups. No water in winter.
Great stop over site. Very well maintained. Free water & electric at site, dump station close by. Quiet, well lit, trash trash cans close by. 5 sites, all filled every night, get there early. Only negative is the dump station is slanted, almost hard to use. Check out the view from my slideout windows. All sites have similar views. Plus play area for children.
A nice small lake area we have fished at several times. From the bank youll mostly catch Carpie and Catfish. There are areas in/around the water especially that need trash picked up. They have a building with bathrooms/shower that is in decent condition as well as compost toilets (which seem very open with no privacy). They also have RV spots out there that seem nice but we havent stayed.
Nice spot to chill out by the lake. 5 good camping spots with electric hook up. As of June 17 there is only one water spigot away from the camping area. No other water hook ups. A nice hiking trail that goes around the lake. Its much longer than you might think. Frisbee golf course, pit toilets, playground and a swimming area. Great for boating and fishing.
Beautiful scenery. IS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE FREE. They have envelopes and a drop box to place your $15 a night fee in.
I stopped here to spend the afternoon and night before heading to Amarillo. Near the campsites there are two vault toilets, but a little further down, they have what looks to be a new bathroom. It has flush toilets and a shower. The bathrooms and campsites are all free...and they have electrical hookups. Its a great place!
Great little city park with 5 free 4-day campsites. They are not very secluded but perfect for a drive-though stop. Each site (look for small blue manhole behind each site) has water and electric as well! The sites filled up fast while I was there, even on a weekday. There is a public water spigot next to the first campsite, but some campers mistake it for their sites water hookup. There is no other potable water availability in the park.Boat ramp, disc golf course, and a bike trail in the park. Its small but clean, safe and free! Easy to find off the freeway as well.It was exceptionally windy during my early July stay.
Great free campground. Free electric up to 4 days.
Its beautiful. Well landscaped
Could use more garbage cans, and keep grass cut lower.
Great Park, Friendly Town, Quiet park here in the winter months,New Restrooms being built.5 spots pretty level with Power 50/30/110 outlets.Max stay is 4 days.Elk City RV is just across the road on 6 when you turn to the park, Nice Folks there if you need parts try them out.
Camped for 2 nights. Beautiful sunsets and great people
Free overnight parking, means the place is usually full early. We rolled in after dark. The place was full. We parked in a nearby parking area by the picnic tables and slept great in a pop up. Great Verizon signal. Showers in the morning were great in the heated bathrooms. It was a great stay.
We stopped in for one night to take advantage of the free camping with hookups. Thanks Elk City for providing this service to the public. Beautiful lake and park
Terrific place to stay!!! Signs posted saying only 4 day parking free with water and electricity furnished!! We stayed three days and enjoyed the town which is a RT66 stop and the park itself!! Lots of walking trails and next to a golf course!! There was swimming and boating out on he lake which did not seem to disturb the ducks and geese!!
What a gem! 5 RV spots with power, playgrounds, a boat ramp and dock, and frisbee golf.
Nice place but not free anymore there is a $15 per night charge now.. filled up quick the night we were there in February
Since its free to camp there, I give it 4 stars. There are even showers. The bad thing is that the mens restroom is a bit dirty, there are a good amount of spiders, and the water is hot only. Also, there was a creepy guy there but I guess I was just unlucky. There are no designated camp sites so it seems like you pop a tent up wherever you want. I was looking for a sign that signified a designated campsite, but none. So, I called by the RVs. It is free, though, so ANYONE can come and camp out! Overall, a good experience since its free.
You cant beat free with amenities! We parked our class A RV for 2 nights, had electric, water, dump station, boat dock, swimming beach and play grounds!
Peaceful, well managed place at a pond to stop for a few days. Water electric and dumpstation.
Serviceable park with grills, swingsets and play area, and hiking trails by the lake. Nice little dock.
Very nice park. Pretty lake. Small area for rvs but free for up to 4 days electric and water. Very peaceful. I would recommend this park
Very clean and quiet campground. 5 paved back in spots with water and 30amp hookups. Theres also an rv dump but the entrance and exit to it are sloped and we didnt risk it for fear of dragging our transmission. We stayed the four day max and loved it. Would visit again
Always a great place for a free camping when I am in the area
Beautiful park, sad to say its closed for the season.
This is a wonderful location and beautiful setting. Has 5 RV sites with electric hook up for FREE! Overlook lake, large grassy area, and nice and clean. Not too far off interstate 40.
Beautiful view needs to do more with the showers had to hold the bottom down the whole time for me to shower.
Nice and quiet. Showers hot ( a little to hot).
Did not work for us. Might work for you.
What a GREAT spot, if youre lucky to catch an open spot... pulled in about 4 weeks ago after catching a few comments about it... WOW so glad we stopped in to check, free electrical and water hookups.. 4 days max but what a TRUE GEM!!! it sure would be nice if every state had multiple sites like this... if were ever needing a place to stay in this area we will be stopping in.Great scenery, clean, safe and FREE!!!Thank you Elk City, OK.
I just checked online and they went from free to $15 a night.
Large, free RV hookup to elec. But no water at the site. Other than that it was great, close to the water. Great.....lots of places to let the boys fish...
We stayed 2 nights in an rv. Saw cars with tents, small campers, 5th wheels and trucks that pull em. Everyone was nice and being next to water when its hot out is so much nicer when its free!
Open surrounding love the beach, countryside seen a baby seagulls windy flying low
A wonderful place to camp for up to four days. There is only five campsites and no dump station. Power and water hook ups. And best of all its free! We caught some crappie and a small bass we had to throw back because it was too small. Met some great people at this camp and really enjoyed our stay. Get there early in the day and have a backup camp though because the 5 spots fill up quick. Update: June 2019, there is a dump station now that isn’t the greatest, but who cares?
We were on our way to The Grand Canyon from Missouri on I-40 when we came across this place. There are 5 free to use (4 days per month) campsites with electric and water hookups right by the lake. There were thousands of geese on the lake (it was winter). Beautiful scenery, cpean campsites with good quality hookups. There are vault toilets.
Clean and cheap!
I took my grand children to The lake had a blast
Beautiful free, only 5 spots.
Free campground great for people in RVs or with camping trailers driving though on I-40 (tent camping is doable, but very little privacy). Individual spots have power and theres an overflow non-electric lot.
Awesome mtb trails!
To much grass and tall weeds in fishing areas.
Love spending time here
The lake is not one of my favorites, but... There are about 10 miles of trails to explore. If you like frisbee golf there is a pretty cool course.
Bring your mountain bike!
Windy little place but very nice quiet they have showers and bathrooms
Nice place to go for a walk or use their bike trails. There is RV hook-ups, picnic tables, play ground for the kids.
Great free park
Really nice and clean camp area especially for the price ! Thanks Elk City Lake Park
Found this park on Campendium. Being late February with a cold front moving through it was pretty quiet, but clean and nicely laid out. Cant beat the free with electric hookups so the only reason for 4 starts was that the sites were not level. They probably were when built but have slowly sunk towards the back as they are on backfill. I didnt see water or a dump station though Im there is water somewhere.
Beautiful place with a free night stay with electric and water!
Love it. good fishing
Its tiny but seems to be a popular local fishing spot... Didnt catch anything though this time....
Great place to camp for a couple of nights. Water was off in January, but electric was on. It is a hidden Jem!
Fantastic camp sites. 5 ea. with power and water. Parked a 40 ft. 5th wheel over night.
Great location for a night.
Nice quiet place w/free RV parking for 4 days a month.
I always have a good time at (Elk City Lake). I just wish they would get rid of all the dead trees
Thank you Elk City for a beautiful place to camp for free with bathroom and electricity. Wow. I dont think were in Florida anymore.
Free electricity, water, toilets, and showers. VERY windy. Lost 3 tent stakes to the wind.
Great place
A great place to fish or to have a picnic.
It looks beautiful every year
Full of fluffy, flat grass spots to pitch a tent. Picnic areas and docks are around, too.
I love the fishing there
Because Im with the love of my life.
Nice an peaceful plus free camping for up to 2 weeks w water an electric
Its good for fishing but not the best for swimming.
U can swim there and catch tiny catfish but theres a nasty game warden .. make sure u have a fishing license
Nice place to
Nice place for FREE overnighter
Great upgrade to stop and rest
Clean, quiet and safe. Police patrolled
Spacious park & convenient campground.
Wonderful campground and free!
