Love this but felt sorry that the Fox and Sauk Indians were fighting for their country. There is a plaque that talks about life on the island but cant read it all. This should be fixed.

It is kind of out of the way but it is s nice stop. We happened upon this while working. The park is very informative and beautiful. We only spent 15 mins here but was well worth the history lesson.

Great place to grill and get a view of the great river. War memorial on site. Large group fire pit is also at this park. Plenty of parking.

A cool yet somewhat innocuous monument. Along the river is a beautiful area but its surrounded by homes and kind of feels grandiose with the cannons lined up along the riverfront.

A great place to come and picnic and get a sense of US history or I should say A PLACE ON THE MOON. For settlers, living along the Mississippi River in this area of the “WEST” in the early 1800’s was like living on the MOON. OK, OK, I might be exaggerating the truth a bit but it’s kind of true. Ma-ka-tai-me-she-kia-kiak (WAR Chief Black Hawk) kicked some serous BUTT at this place. Depending on your point of view you could say Black Hawk committed murder. The BUTT kicking was called Battle of Campbells Island during the War of 1812. U.S. forces, led by Lt. John Campbell fought with pro-Britain Sauk and Fox warriors led by WAR Chief Black Hawk. The Black Hawk’s side won the battle. The warriors stripped off the uniforms of the soldiers and then put them on and danced around in celebration of victory.

A nice memorial erected by the Moline NSDAR Chapter in 1906, for a War of 1812 Battle (that was a loss by the US Regiment) which also saw civilian losses.
