Great small jazz listening room in Durham. Limited seating, intimate feel. You can bring in food BYOB although they have soft drinks and wine. A few snacks like nuts and chips otherwise theres no food. Ticket prices are reasonable, usually $20.00. Bands are mainly hosted from local musicians but have seen Laila Biali, award winning Canadian jazz pianist /singer, among others. The attendees are there for the music and thats what I love!

Ive been to see jazz groups perform at Sharp 9 Gallery twice. This is a great space: small, with a supportive and well-informed audience. Everyone is friendly, too. Its a welcoming place. They sell wine by the glass but it looks like you can bring your own, too. I saw a few people with small coolers. The music is very good. Theres also art on the walls, plus photos of past performances. I recommend Sharp 9!

Great place to listen to amazing jazz. Bring your own alcohol, but they ask for a donation when you do. That classic jazz club aesthetic. They also offer jazz classes, too.

Excellent jazz club in a small industrial park. Dont let the setting deter you from seeing and hearing some great jazz in this laid back local hotspot. Durham has a long tradition of talented musicians and Sharp 9 is the best place to hear them. Admission prices are very reasonable and you can bring your own food and drinks so a night out wont break the bank. Highly recommended!

Best learning environment imaginable for a jazz player. Dave knows his stuff ~ his a fine musician and a kindly fun teacher. A teacher once told me that 5 minutes of playing with others is worth 2 (hours of practice in the shed...maybe he said 4...you get the idea. Durham Jazz Workshop is the place to do it.Not to mention a GREAT and intimate venue to hear the best live fresh jazz.

A jazz club in a warehouse/industrial building? Believe it - this is a hidden gem offering a mix of music artists hosted in a very unlikely place, but it works. We paid for our tickets online, made the short drive from Chapel Hill, parked right in front for free, and entered the building wondering if we had the right place. The host had our name at the door, and we could see the stage ready for a show. There are about 25 small tables with 3 chairs each - we found a nice spot off to the side with a great view of the performers. We brought a small cooler with a bottle of Chardonnay and some cheese and waited for the show which started right on time. There was also a refreshment stand, but the option to BYOB was nice. And the music was first class. Selfishly I had hoped we could keep this place a secret - but it deserves to be shared! Check out the website for upcoming performances and give it a try.

I have been a Jazz Guitar student at Sharp 9 for over 1 year now and continue to be immersed in the diverse rich, talented and supportive community that Dave Finucane and team have put together. With private lessons, combo groups where Dave and his team form 6-week Jazz ensembles to learn and practice playing Jazz with other musicians, to the best venue for enjoying top-notch Jazz shows, there is nothing else in the area that even comes close to Sharp 9! Thank you Dave for all you do!

My husband and I went for the first time last night while we were in Durham, living near Lynchburg, Virginia, and just checking the area out. Had a really great time, so much talent, you could tell audience and musicians love the music. Will be back again.

Simply put, this is a bonafide jazz venue/listening room. Excellent sound and sight-lines...a great place to make and listen to creative music. Its an intimate space w/ limited seating...so I recommend buying tickets in advance, as more and more shows are selling out. BYOB is an added bonus.

Durham, NC has another major, extraordinary thing now that brings a date night or a family night the flavor of New Orleans, DC, NYC! Do not let Sharp Nine Gallery go another week without you checking it out! This intimate, wonderful music spot, reminds me of Snug Harbor in NOLA. Btw, You can buy a glass of wine or bottled water or BYOB. Every seat in the small house is hot!
