Theres something here for every budget including stunning images of wildlife, mountains/deserts, and the train. Most were shot within an hour of Durango. The photographer, Frank, was in the shop and was happy to chat about his work. Will definitely be back for holiday gifts.

Frank is equally talented as a photographer and instructor and his gallery is filled with stunning photographs. I highly recommend his photography workshops. He customized his half-day workshop to accommodate my use of a drone instead of a traditional camera, and his clear and concise instruction really helped me expand upon my own knowledge of camera settings, image capture and post processing.

Beautiful landscape photography. We enjoyed speaking with the owner/photographer about his skills, the unique way he sets up his early morning shots-- all proof to me that detailed, diligent work pays off. What a breathe of fresh air from so call artists with their cellphones!!#FiveStars

I attended the Navajo Nation workshop with Frank Comisar of Scenic Aperture in October and enjoyed it very much! Frank is a great teacher and it was obvious that he wanted to make sure we got the most out of the workshop. Coming from someplace very green and wet, I especially appreciated his tips for shooting in the desert! The workshop was well planned and well run. Frank has good knowledge of the area and excellent local connections which allowed us to shoot at some of the lesser known sites off the beaten path. I will definitely attend another one of Franks workshops!

Scenic Apertures Workshops teach the art of the possible for all skill levels! I have taken two workshops with Scenic Aperture and done one customized photo trip. I cannot say enough good things about my experience. Frank knows all of the secret spectacular spots and can get you there easily, saving tons of time (and gas) spent looking. In addition, most of the spots are off the beaten track. They would be hard to find and difficult to get to without the proper knowledge and vehicle.Frank is also a wonderful instructor who works well with all skill levels and personality types and has an amazing ability to make everyone feel like they’re getting exactly what they need (customized learning). He can help people who are brand new to photography and are learning the fundamentals of photography itself, their camera and accessories, and/or their computers and photo editing software. He also is good at working with more advanced people who would like to take their photography to a next level by learning more about composition, lighting, colors or who want to learn how to enhance their photography by better matching their accessories with desired outcomes - filters, lens selection, reading histograms, etc. Finally, for the very advanced (or for self learners), he is available as needed to answer questions or offer a gentle nudge. When desired, he also knows how to leave people alone to do their own thing or learn in their own style. I highly recommend Scenic Aperture workshops.

Frank took me out on a half day photo tour and I learned a lot! He was very patient with me and my pictures turned out great! After the tour he showed me how he edits the photos in the lab.I highly recommend taking one of his classes or tours if you want to improve on your photo techniques. Also, I purchased some photo cards and an awesome coffee book of his photos for a reasonable price.

I just completed a full-day workshop with Frank and had a blast. My wife accompanied us as a non-photographing spouse and had as much fun as I did. The weather was uncooperative and overcast, but Frank was still able to find great opportunities to get terrific shots and impart valuable tips and knowledge. If you are in Durango looking for awesome pictures to purchase or want to learn more about taking them yourself, then Frank is the man to see. I will certainly be looking to do another workshop the next time I am in town.

My seventh workshop with Scenic Aperture and cant wait for the eighth! Frank is a very effective coach and mentor. He can quickly adapt his teaching style to accommodate both beginners and experts. His passion for photography is infectious and it is clear he wants all participants to have the best experience possible.

The gallery contains a fantastic collection of Franks images, and while you can browse with no pressure to buy, they are hard to resist. Frank also offers workshops in the magnificent locations featured in his own work. I had the best time on a Monument Valley workshop and with Franks no-pressure assistance came away with images I was very happy to enlarge and hang on the wall.

I happened to be in Durango in August and was blown away by the prints in Franks Gallery. I signed up for a private workshop on the spot and spent Sunday morning touring around the area with Frank. He was great. I was skeptical going in, but Ive been doing amateur photography for 40 years and he taught me half a dozen ways of doing things that were new to me. These have already paid off in a couple of recent photography weekends Ive taken. He also does more elaborate group workshops, and Ill almost certainly sign up for one of those next year. Very highly recommended, especially if youre already somewhat experienced and want a bit of instruction from a pro to move up a notch.

Six stars on a scale of 1 to 5! Just completed a private workshop with Frank Comisar of Scenic Aperture, photographing the sandhill crane migration in Nebraska. Frank is a skilled and patient teacher, and of course a fabulous photographer. He helped me improve my photography skills, and helped me see the migration from the best vantage points. Frank tailored the workshop to my wants, and then changed plans as we went along, to make it the best experience for me. All the logistics were well planned, and Frank knew his subject well. When the weather did not cooperate, we spent one afternoon working on post processing, which was awesome. He did an excellent job making a complicated process seem manageable. All aspects of the workshop were a fabulous experience. Highly recommended!

Frank Comisar runs an excellent workshop for a very fair price. His workshops are meticulously prepared and he gets you into place to take the shot. He is there to help you, all levels, from beginners to experts. He comes to help his clients, not to take his own pictures. He is very encouraging in helping you find your own vision, not just take the icon pic. The fact that so many of the participants in his workshops are repeat clients testifies to the value of what Frank is offering. His recent Navajo Nation Workshop was my fourth.

We bought our most memorable souvenir from this shop, a black and white photo of Monument Valley. There were so many photos that took me right back to different places in and around CO.

I have attended two of Frank’s workshops; Colorado Fall Colors and Monument Valley and I enjoyed both. He does a great job of getting you to the locations at the right time of the day to get the good shots. He is very helpful if you are a beginner or experienced photographer. He also has some teaching sessions on post-processing of photographs. You can see some of the images that I captured during his workshops on my website Greg-Kluempers.artistwebsites in the Arizona/Utah and Colorado/New Mexico galleries.

While I have not been to the Gallery operated by Scenic Aperture in Durango, I have traveled with the firm on two photography workshops in Nebraska in the spring of 2016, one to view the Sandhill Crane migration and the other to photograph the Exotic Birds of the Prairie [Sage Grouse]. The owner of Scenic Aperture, Frank, carefully prepared the logistics of the trip, a key consideration; he knew his subject matter and the places we visited, and overall ran a very smooth and collegial operation. All of his guests, including myself, were very pleased with the trip. I have booked a second photography workshop with Scenic Aperture for October 2017 to the Navaho parts of the American Southwest.

I participated in Franks Bosque del Apache and had a great time. Frank had everything well organized so the trip went very smoothly. He briefed us prior to every shoot as to how to achieve the best results and offered suggestions throughout each session. If asked, he gladly helped to solve problems. It is very difficult to shoot birds in flight and his advice was greatly appreciated. He also allowed me to use my camera on his 600mm lens and gimbal mount, which was a big treat when shooting birds! Only scheduling has prevented me from attending another of his workshops.
