I joined Y Dundalk because 1) it’s affordable 2) you can choose the ‘swim only’ option.Pros:1) The Y swim center is extremely affordable.2) The fact that you can only join for swimming is the reason why I joined. Every other private fitness centers in the city offer full service packages.3) Ample free street parking.4) It’s open till 8:45 pm from Mon to Fri.5) Staff members Philip and Rosemary are every friendly. They made us feel welcome, especially Philip. His friendly nature was one of the reason why we decided to join this particular swim center.5) The lifeguards, Tommy, Isiah and Abigail are very nice and friendly too. It’s a peace of mind with them being around. I have also seen them take rounds at the pool to make sure everything is fine. They also keep checking the chemical levels of the water.6) The locker room, toilet and shower rooms are quite clean.Cons:1) The water in the pool and the shower room is cold. It is at room temperature and not at all warm. I feel very cold while swimming. Y claims that the temp is between 83-85F but trust me it doesn’t feel like that. It’s cold, period.2) The facility itself is quite cold in general and not heated. One of the staff members told me that the building is managed by the city and Y leases it from them. As a result, Y has no control over the temperature.3) The pool gets very dirty towards the weekend. You can literally see dirt sediments gathered near the ladder and shallow areas. That’s very gross! Guess that’s what comes with the price point.4) The neighborhood gets a bit deserted after dusk.5) The schedule on their website is not updated. For example: I looked at the schedule and saw that there was no class on Saturday and family time is after noon. There was no mention of any class even on the white board at the swimming hall. However, suddenly at 11 am, some aqua Zumba class started that occupied a large portion of the non-lap section. With these people and the family people, there was literally no room for swimming. Y should update their online schedule. I think Y should impose separate timings for classes and family time.6) I don’t think people shower before entering the pool even though it is mandatory. I also noticed some people in their dirty sneakers use the pool during fitness classes. I even saw people in their regular clothes (especially parents with their children) using the pool. Also, during birthday parties, people just jump in to the pool with their regular clothes on without taking shower. The other day, I saw an elderly gentleman walk in to Y barefoot and wait straight in to pool without taking shower. That’s very gross and unhygienic too.7) The only cold person I encountered is lifeguard Seda. She doesn’t respond to greetings, she is rude and arrogant.FYI-1) The pool is closed if there is thunderstorms or lightning. This is a rule imposed by the city.2) It is 3.9 feet deep to 9.5 feet deep.3) 4 lanes are open for lap swimmers and 1/4th of the pool is open for other stuff such as swim lessons, aqua fitness, aqua Zumba or family swim with a divider at 5 feet so that non-swimmers or beginners don’t go to the deeper slope side.

I love the Dundalk YMCA. Im a lap swimmer and Ive gone to many other Ys and clubs, including the YMCAs in Towson, Parkville, 33rd Street, Abingdon and even La Canada, CA. The Dundalk Y is the best for lap swimming. The pool is big, clean, cool, quiet and uncrowded. Ms. Linda and her staff go out of their way for members and guests. I feel like family here.

Very bad experience. I signed up for one month. I told them I want only one month, just found out they were charging me every months for four months now. No one told me I had to cancel it 30 days before, that’s mean I should have canceled it the same day.

DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL.I wish I could give them 0 stars.Completely racist. My niece who is on the swim team, and track team at her school went here to practice a couple of days ago with some of her teammates and their coach. They paid to get in, they didn’t bother anyone or get in anyone’s way. Yet and still, a Caucasian woman-another swimmer at this PUBLIC establishment- decides that my niece is bothering her by swimming on the other side of the pool (basically because she got in the pool at all) she proceeds to scream, holler and carry on to the staff about my 17 year old niece swimming in the PUBLIC pool that she paid to get into like everyone else. The lifeguard was very helpful but there were no actions taken for the harassment of a child.
