A lot of different kinds of animals that I have not seen in other zoos Ive been. Some parts of the zoo were under construction or not open and quite a lot of the animals could not be viewed either because they were sleeping or hidden somewhere. I am not sure if its because of the cold weather or for any other reasons. Thats the only reason why I didnt give it a 5-star. It was the last weekend of the Boo at the Zoo so a lot of the kids were wearing costumes so that kind of added some fun to our visit.

I continue to be impressed by the staff at this Zoo. Even before Covid-19, but when we visited today it was clear how passionate they are about what they do and why they choose to work there. The new paths and guidance for safe distancing were clear, employees were nearby to assist at key points, signage was great, and the rearranged exhibits looked great. Plus I love that you can get so close to the animals for an up close and personal experience. And since it was so toasty out, grabbing a refreshing sherbet at concessions was the perfect end to our visit Also, those bear brothers are just the greatest! So interactive with guests and playful! So glad they were able to provide a good home for the orphans, to help educate visitors and provide a safe place to live an enriched life

This is an amazing place! We went for the Boo at the Zoo event. It is during Covid and all and they were Greta. 1 way paths, social distancing requires, masks required in buildings. The staff are friendly and helpful and kind. Cannot wait ti go back! They are getting wolves soon and i want to go see them. The animals seem very well cared for and happy.

Great Halloween themed Boo at the Zoo. A lot of animal exhibits combined with Halloween trick or treat stations. Staff did a nice job putting together a fun day for kids and adults. Hot chocolate and food as you get started and at the gift shop at the end. Even had a magic act. A real nice Halloween celebration for kids.

Nice little zoo. Went Labor Day weekend. Had good social distancing protocols in place with a designated path to follow. Some sections were closed but most animals were available. We were most impressed with their apparent efforts to have some unusual and endangered animals we havent seen at other zoos.

One of the coolest places in our city - lions (not sure if they are African lions, or were at some point before breeding with local mountain lions, which appear to have got in at some point looking at the fencing behind the exhibit and behind the zoo), tigers, polar bears, large primates, large birds of prey -- most of what youd want or expect to see at a zoo is there. The dark exhibit, which is full of bugs, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, bats, etc., is top notch, maybe even world class.

The zoo is following safety protocols for COVID. You get to follow the path, one way, but can go around as many times as you wish. The day we visited it was very quiet and for the most part we had the zoo to ourselves. It was very nicely taken care of and the staff were very friendly.

Its $12 for adults, not $10 . So Im just passing through the area and I like to visit different zoos wherever I go and this was fun ... a little smaller than I expected.. you can go through pretty quick... I recommend doing it twice... also busier than I expected... Probably b/c it was a Saturday... I was also surprised by the number ofnon-americans here ... Didnt expect that in this part of the country ...the animals are well -cared- for & seem active & interested in life & things around them ..the caretakers I think most of them are female ... pretty cool ladies ...one of them one of them looked like Jungle Jane...so muscular and tan . Overall a pretty good experience ... although if I had my choice Id probably come on a weekday when its a little less busy

We were excited to visit. We arrived in Sept 2020 and many items were not able to be accessed due to COVID. Its a directional zoo but the path to the nature trail, and waterfall, are off limits. We werent told any of this when purchasing tickets. Staff were friendly and some of the animals were easily seen/experienced but I dont think ill return. The chickens clearly pecked each other bald in many spots and need some thinning of the flock or aggressor mitigation. This zoo is not particularly ADA friendly.

The Zoo finally opened after a long time - since Covid 19 swept thru the Country. At first, only the Gift Shop was open, under the outside canopy. Now, visitors follow a queue line to the gift shop - admissions... After paying $10 a ticket you follow a marked path down and around the outside. Youbarecasked to donate $1to help feed the animals... You walked, up and down hills.. doing far more walking than animal watching...there didnt appear to be any assistance for those needing help walking. The animals were sleepy when we were there and some were sleeping on raised shelters - adding to the search. There are a few outdoor toilets ... the one out by the picnic grounds was in dire need of cleaning ... Id rate it an F- for cleanliness. My son was in need of refreshment.. near the petting zoo and we paid .. tax included.. $1.63 for a 7.5 oz can of coke. Wow!!! Once is enough for the season.

Everyone needs to head to the zoo. I have been coming here all my life, and have seen the zoo go through lots of changes. My family and I are excited to see the next phase for the LSZ. If you are local, think about becoming a member, running a zoo isnt free and our local dollars only improve an amenitie that a town of our size is lucky to have.

Visited the Lake Superior Zoo, as part of a bit of a tour of Minnesota zoos. The zoo has adapted as best as possible to the current COVID situation, with a marked path through what seemed to be much of the zoo, as well as entry into three buildings (something not yet happening at a number of zoos nationwide).Having read some reviews before I arrived, I can say the staff here are definitely taking suggestions to heart (like posting signs to tell you the most likely places to find some of the animals) — this allowed us to see the cougars; I overheard another visitor who clearly is a regular say today was the first time she had been able to see them since the reopen, because she now knew where to look!Visitors did well with keeping physical distance from other guests — even with kids in tow — which was also impressive!Everyone on staff we encountered was extremely friendly, and we had a fantastic experience. They are really trying to make their park and attraction the best it can be during this situation, and I highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

Pros:Nice sceneryInteractiveFriendly staffReciprocity on membershipsCons:Its not eliteI didnt have the highest expectations when I visited this zoo, but we managed to burn a solid 3 hours. We were initially impressed with the first view coming out of the entrance. The view is great, but we also saw down in the tiger pit. Moving on we managed to see all the other animals listed. This isnt something you see instead of the San Diego or Henry Doorly Zoo (Omaha, NE). This is something you see while youre in town trying to burn a few hours or if you dont have a zoo near you.

Will never be back. I understand stuff is closed to due covid and normal construction. Thats definitely not my issue. The issue is that the paths are so steep and narrow. I sometimes use a wheelchair due to MS. If I needed to use it, there is no way to get through. The paths are so steep that if you lose your footing, you would roll the rest of the way down the hill

The zoo was absolutely wonderful! The staff were all very very nice polite and enthusiastic about teaching my children biodiversity. Being a smaller city The lake superior zoo doesnt have as many of the job dropping mega fauna that you see in larger venues but they make. Up for it in the abundance of smaller incredibly adorable exhibits. Lots of monkeys, lots of reptiles, a few lions, a handful of marsupials, and some really amazing aquatic critters of all types. Admission price is well worth it but watch out with the snacks! I had to take out a second mortgage to get everyone in the family a chocolate dipped frozen banana! It was, to quote the greatly talented and all powerful captain of industry Montgomery Burns, Excellent! Enjoy Humans!

This is a great little zoo. It is a perfect outing for families, especially with young children. There is a decent selection of animals to see including lions, tiger, kangaroos, many reptiles, fish and birds. There is a new development for bears coming in the summer of 2019. Most trails are nice paved and some are rough. Overall, this a place you could being your kids multiple times and there is great potential for this zoo, it would just need more money which is hard to come by in Duluth. Well probably get a membership once our kids are older so they can experience more. Also, very reasonable adult ticket price of $10.

This zoo has so much potential! My family visited the LSZ shortly after they reopened from the flood, it was so sad to see such a beautiful place with so much work to be done, we visited again 3 years ago with hopes that they had things put back together but was just disappointed at the progress that was made. We visited again this last weekend over the 4th of July and will not return to this zoo again. I can understand that there are going to be precautions in place due to Covid 19 but I want to say that half of the exhibits were open. It also didnt appear that much improvements had been made in the 3 years span since the last time we visited. Lake Superior Zoo, I want to say that I enjoyed my visit, I want to say that you have a beautiful educational space, but much is lacking. Ill say again, this zoo has so much potential; with the beautiful landscape and waterfall trail, the play area for children but it just doesnt seem like much is improving. Also, being asked if we want to round up to donate to the zoo is a little much, we already paid cost of admission and $15 for 3 bottles of water and 3 Popsicles!
