Currently under Construction throughout the whole Park for approx. A year now and upgrade of the water Fountains , bathrooms and New Sprinkler system.. there is two man made Lakes that also has major upgrades with fountains and its foundation of its walkways. Its Landscaping has been a major project.. improvements that continues today..rails reconstructed with cinder blocks and stained wood alongside both lakes. Replacement of the old lawn with new sod and lawn.an outdoor stage has been completely redone from the old concrete foundation taken out and new poured concrete reconstructed. The work that has been done must be in the millions of taxpayers money been put to good use. Completion of this park will go into the 2021 season. Probably @ Spring time it should be completed, but thats just my view from what Ive seen done which will be a beautiful Wilderness Park in Downey for years.

Very peaceful park to come alone or bring kids. I enjoy coming to to fish and enjoy nature at its best. The ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and birds make a great atmosphere to enjoy. Park is very accessible to major freeways such as interstate 5, 605, 105, and 91. Just expect to pay a park fee on weekends which I dont agree but it is what it is. Overall, love the park.

Actually this place has been under construction because its getting renovated after years of wear and tear. The lake which is man made is also getting a make over. The water inside of it was drained so that they can re-do the concrete within it.

Nice dog friendly park. Cost $5.00 to park or free with disabled plates. Lots of ducks and birds at the lake. Fishing allowed. Has a restroom that is open during their hours. Plenty of benches to rest at and look over the lakes.

Five dollars parking was a turnoff so we parked on the street. Not too much different than other city parks. Multi-cultural families and a few playgrounds, benches and small lakes. We have frequented better parks though.

It was so relaxing early in the morning during the week my kids enjoyed coming here for the first time, I would totally recommend bringing the family here ducks must be fed by people because they would get close to us thinking we had food for them, make sure your kids have the proper shoes when in the playground it has sand all around.

Beautiful park with two man made lakes where fishing is allowed. Very large with enough parking spots. I placed my huge Beach towel on the grass facing the lake and enjoying the ducks and other waterfowl like American Coot and geese. Many pigeons gather towards the front because people feed them bread and cereal. Paths for you to walk, jog or bike ride. Nice restrooms inside. It is my favorite park!!

The lake is not being taken care of anymore. I posted a picture of how dirty it was at my last visit. There is a lot of trash and the water is green. Poor ducks have to swim in filthy water. I use to love this park but I cant stand seeing how dirty it is.

Wow! I just got back from a visit to Wilderness Park in Arcadia. The park is superbly maintained and very clean. Tent camping is available with a reservation ( through the city). Wildlife is present ( including snakes an possibly bears), but we didnt see any. We did have a huge female deer come really close to us, and the boys were excited. A lottery system runs the nearby hiking trail system. The ranger was a nice person and drove by several times to make sure we were ok. Entrance gates are locked at times, so I would recommend checking the web site toy see about visiting this ruggedly beautiful location. Would I go again, without a doubt yes!

A nice gem surrounded by noise, but nature somehow finds a way. I came across a beautiful Banded California Kingsnake, which is ABSOLUTELY HARMLESS, so please dont poke, prod, throw rocks at, or provoke them. If your kids do, repremand them. These noodles keep rattlesnakes away, so think of them as an ally.

Review №49

Lovely park with a large variety of water fowl, this is a great place to get out amongst nature for a peaceful walk. This is especially good if you live nearby and don’t like to drive all that far. There are many trees here that provide some good shade in most areas, with a few large bare spots. Definitely bring a hat when walking under that Californian sun! The general path winds around ponds for the birds with benches along the way, crossing by the restrooms near the front. You can see some fishes and turtles chillin’ too. While not altogether long, one full loop around the park should take you 20-30 minutes walking. It is peaceful and makes for some great quiet time. I feel most of the people I’ve seen here are in the same mindset, almost as if there is a sacredness to this park.I should also note that some 20 years ago my mother was married to my stepfather here. The wedding was great and I’m sure they would still opt to perform the ceremony here.

We stayed in the bunkhouse cabins Labor Day weekend. Other than a shower Saturday afternoon while we were at the Island, the weather was great. The bunkhouses are very basic. 12 sets of bunk beds and a table with chairs. There are small closets by each bunk. Cement floors. They do have electric which is an improvement over the last time we stayed there 18 years ago. We also rented the dining hall which is in the same building as the nature center near the bunkhouses. You can only rent the dining hall if you are renting the bunkhouses. There is no running water in the dining hall but there is a refrigerator and electric to plug in crockpots and griddles. It was a great place to keep all food in one spot. It also provided a place for the kids to play games without fighting bugs. The lakeshore campground was undergoing a huge renovation so it will be interesting to see that project completed. Fun time had by all.

For the weekend of our wedding my husband & I decided to book The Walled Garden... Right from the beginning the staff were so helpful & the housekeepers even accepted in our shopping & put it away for us before we had even arrived, nothing seemed to much trouble! It was the perfect location and you literally feel like you could have been anywhere, the grounds are peaceful, the rooms are all beautiful and it really made our weekend even more special. The house was the perfect size for our families to continue the celebrations, the children had the best time with the games room & the hot tub! I would recommend visiting The Wilderness whether there is a large group of you, or you are looking for a couples weekend away. All of the cottages have their own special feel so you would definitely not be disappointed. We hope to go back in the near future and stay in one of the other houses. Thankyou so much to all of the staff for making our weekend as amazing as it was!
