Great place for a wedding! Only thing Id say could have used improvement was more consistency on clean dishware. I had a water glass that had old lipstick on the rim, the person next time me had a wine glass with lots of water spots, and I also went to grab a coffee cup (from a clean stack)and it was dirty. So the dishwasher or process currently used to wash them might need tweaking. Otherwise the staff was great and the space was beautiful!!

We were here for a wedding or friends. I was expecting an upscale location and the downstairs area we were seated was definitely trying, but it seemed boring and not well maintained rather than antic or luxurious. The upstairs area was spacious and welcomed a very large group of guests, but again nothing stood out.Everything I saw looked like it had been neither new nor really old but something in the middle.Like a house from the 70s when one would visit his/her aunt.

This was an excellent experience and an excellent place! We were at the Gem Theatre for a Taste Test. If you ever need a service/venue to serve for a large crowd, this is one of the places to try the food and experience it. My husband is also a musician and he played here once - there is a beautiful “theatre” in the room next door to the dining area. I should have taken a picture of that room.I took photos of the beautiful courtyard, but I forgot to get the permission of my family to post the photos with my review for that too. Trust me, the courtyard was beautiful! They took care of every detail outside!Inside was beautiful too. The staff was pleasant, professional and very friendly (I assure you , they already had our business, so that wasn’t why). The Taste Test started with appetizers and ended with dessert. Attached to this review are the photos of our food. I would not co sided this a “Taste Test”, but a “wonderful dinner”!Sidebar: The last two photos are for the Ladies.... The bathrooms are downstairs. The first photo is of the hallway (LOVE THE GOLDEN TOUCHES!!) the bathroom is beautiful and large. It is VERY clean.Make sure to check out my photos. Sometimes they do not show up with my review here?????!!!

We just got married at the Gem Theatre on August 23rd, and I could not have asked for a better, more prepared staff, or unique venue!! Nikki went above and beyond as our onsite coordinator. She made our special day run so smooth, and we had complete faith in her to make the day turn out great, and it did! The food was amazing, and we got so many compliments on how great the location was, how wonderful the staff was, and how tasty the food was. We are so, so, SO glad that we booked the Gem!!

Son & daughter-in-law were married at the Gem. Not only is the Gem a wonderful venue with great ambiance for a wedding, the staff there totally exceeded our expectations with regard to the food and service. The food was phenomenal. My filet was cooked to perfection and the swordfish was equally delicious. Our guests were very complimentary regarding food and service also. Cannot say enough good things about the staff. Bertha was our Gem coordinator and ran the show behind the scene like a pro. Warm and caring and organized and firm; she made us comfortable and confident that our event would be as close to perfect as humanly possible. With her help and the help of staff it was. They get ten stars in my book.

I dont even know where to start... I worked with Alex for all my pre-planning stuff and she was AMAZING. I asked her so many ridiculous questions and she has so helpful. She made sure everything was perfect for my wedding day. When she passed it over to my day of person, Nikki, I was still just as pleased. The communication with this team is amazing. Nikki knew everything that I had gone over with Alex and it made the transition really easy. They were both so sweet and helpful I couldnt have asked for a better pair.Day of wedding was smooth sailing as well. The staff was so attentive to all allergies, and preferences. They were flexible with me whenever I needed anything, and the food was amazing!!! They were also really helpful when it came to set up and break down. Im so glad I picked this venue. The building itself is amazing and it was the perfect day. I cant complain and a single thing. Thank you so much Alex, Nikki, and the whole staff at the Gem. You are wonderful!

We selected this as our wedding venue and attended a food tasting tonight. I cant think of enough good things to say. Our food was absolutely amazing, from appetizer to dessert. The chef special 12oz strip was possibly the best steak Ive ever had. I believe the exec chef was George, and our server was Kevin, amazing guys. Amazing staff all around. If the tasting was like this I really know we made the best choice for our wedding day.

I had our wedding reception at the Gem Theatre on 12-31-19. I was so excited to have our wedding at this beautiful historic place. Especially on New Years Eve.Unfortunately, the day did not go as planned. Mistakes happen and Im pretty understanding but there was a whole list of problems and management continuously made excuses for each mistake and didnt take ownership.1. There was a sewage issue with the bathrooms. The sewage issue happened after dinner around the time where our 1st dance was about to begin. Not something that was the venues fault but it was a huge inconvenience. The bathrooms remained closed the rest of the night and our guests were told to use an employee kitchen bathroom. Many older guests left earlier than they wanted to because of the issue. Many of the men just urinated outside to not hold up the line for the women.2. We were told after the fact that many temporary workers were on hand. They were clearly untrained and didnt know the Gem theatre policies that our guests were welcome to sit in the upper balcony area of the theatre after dinner to look down at the dance floor. Many guests and my photographer were told they could not be up there.3. We had a cake that was supposed to feed 204 people (not including the topper) and we only had 130 guests. Our coordinator informed me that the entire cake was served and there were no left overs. This is a lie because myself and several guests personally saw the large amount of cake that was left and probably thrown away or taken home by staff. I mentioned it to another worker over the phone and she stuck up for the employees and told me that in my contract it stated I wanted all my cake cut and for some reason its protocal that if all cake is cut I for some reason shouldnt expect any back and should have asked. Sorry but I believe its common sense to see the extraordinary amount of leftover cake and probably assume the bride and groom want it back. Another excuse instead of an apology.3. There was a separate cake topper that the baker left in a refrigerator for the groom and I. I asked our coordinator about this extra cake 3 times and she stated there was no cake in the back. Finally we asked another employee who found the cake. Management called back and told me they found the cake and I can drive back to get it if I please (I dont live around the corner and have a job and an 8 month old baby. I was also just there that morning to pick up my centerpieces). I was very frustrated I was told Id have to waste my time gas and energy to come get it after they messed up. I was able to meet management off the freeway closer to my house at the end of the workday (my idea and it took convincing).4. We literally gave our coordinator 1 job. To blow out the candles inside our lantern center peices after dinner so they had time to be solidified before being put away into boxes at the end of the night. She obviously failed to do so because there was fresh wax all over the inside of the lanterns when we came to pick them up 2 days later. It looked like a wax massacre on the inside of the lanterns which took hours to clean out. When this was mentioned to staff another excuse was made that they did what they were told and dont know why that happened.5. There were missing centerpieces. If the staff broke them by accident that is fine. Just let us know. Instead they told us they dont know where the remaining lanterns were and blamed our florists (of course why would the Gem theatre make a mistake?)6. There were fitting rooms below the stage area for the wedding party where our personal belongings were. This was a room for the wedding party only. I made this clear. Even though it was friends and family at the wedding I didnt know everyone well and didnt trust random people to be in there. Due to the bathroom issues, workers were advising people to use our personal bathrooms where our purses and other belongings were out without asking consent.-after this we were only offered $500 back... we were also not allowed to speak to the owner personally.

What a delightful venue for a wedding! The ceremony was onstage, and we had a great view of it from the balcony (all except the processional, which we could only see once people came out from under the balcony, but that was ok for us). After the ceremony there were apps and beverages in the foyer while the staff converted the main floor into the dining area. Good ambiance, good food, service was a little uneven but overall good. We found Vincent especially delightful, warm and welcoming, but also a kick a## dancer who literally danced thru the evening as he worked, injecting the background of the event with infectious joy. Im sure the venue was quite expensive, but if I had the money, it would be one of my top choices for a similar event.

This is a beautiful old theatre. The ceilings are gorgeous and everything is high quality construction and craftsmanship. It is a nice small venue, though some of the passageways are narrow and there are spots where the floor is not even close to level. There is an elevator to the balcony seating if you have mobility issues, though Im not sure about an accessible entrance. There is a bar that serves alcohol and snacks are also available.

What a perfect venue for my wedding last summer. I fell in love with gem as soon as I stepped foot in the door for my tour. The building is absolutely gorgeous both inside and out with so many unique details. Even the bathrooms are absolutely gorgeous. I loved that we had the whole building to ourselves for my wedding day. The gem accommodated by idea to have the ceremony on the stage in the theater and then dinner downstairs and then back up to the theater for after dinner dancing. We have had so many compliments from guests on how fantastic the whole wedding experience was. Another plus was that the gem is so beautiful you dont miss being outside. It absolutely poured all day on our wedding day (which Im choosing to believe is a good omen) and therefore we had to stay inside all day even for cocktail hour and yet I have to say that as soon as I got inside the gem I did not once lament the poor weather. Most of the guests that I have talked to about my wedding did not even remember that it was raining because it was just so beautiful inside. I seriously had such an incredible and perfect wedding day and I know that a large part of that was due to having such an awesome venue.

My husband and I chose the Gem Theatre to be married in back in October of 2017 - married life has not slowed down which is why my review is so late :) There are so many incredible reasons to be married here however, due to space and boring readers, I will do my best to point out the important ones.- The venue itself is stunning - the building inside and out; the stage where the bridal party sits; the cocktail hour area; the bridal party gets ready below the stage in an incredible and fascinating space; the DJ hooks their music up to the Gems own sound system instead of having hideous speakers near her setup.- The food is delicious and there is a lot of it - my family is straight off the boat from Poland and the venue allowed us to also include several Polish traditions including a shot before dinner and my mother adding a thousand (you read that correctly) hand made Pierogi to accompany the late-night snack.- The staff are incredible - they were extremely helpful not only on the day of, but throughout the entire process including being available by email and phone constantly leading up to the date and adjusting their schedule based on mine (as a grad student and working full time it was very helpful) as well as being extremely attentive to our guests while also being barely visible and helping us clean up and organize after the reception was done. The Detroit area has an overwhelming amount of wedding options; we visited over a dozen. We chose the Gem for all the reasons above and also because as far as wedding venues go, it is very reasonably priced. I recommend it wholeheartedly and based on how our families still raved about our wedding over a year ago now over these most recent holidays, we definitely made the right choice.
