We always love the DIA. We havent been in a couple years, but I got the special tickets and took my oldest the other weekend, since we cant do anything else for their birthday this year. The museum was entertaining as ever and they were awesome with their pandemic safety measures. You cant just walk in, you have to reserve your spot because theyre only allowing a certain number of people in at once. Temp checks before you check in, doors closed expect for one entry and exit for each exhibit, signs and arrows on the floor indicating the way everyone is to walk, small exhibits have signs saying one at a time, and most everyone we did encounter was extremely respectful of social distancing and everyone wore their mask properly. There was one younger couple we saw a couple of times who werent taking the precautions seriously, and security actually came and talked to them about it. Theyre doing a great job, cant wait to go back.

Loved the exhibits here, they were very nice although the layouts were a tad bit confusing they had a lot of nice pieces here. However I don’t advise coming here during this pandemic at all, I came here with my family, we he a group of 8 people. We were constantly followed, watched and harassed by staff, we were not around other people majority of the time and any time we moved our masks for a second the same fat security guard magically popped up out of nowhere telling us we couldn’t take our masks down for a family picture, god forbid we do that when nobody else is around. As we were leaving, one of our group had taken their mask down for a moment and a employee happened to walk by and immediately told her to pull it back up despite nobody being around once again. We will most likely not be returning, employees will be Watching you the whole time.

Reserved 4 tickets a couple of days in advance, showed the email at the door & walked right in past the line. Such breathtaking art was truly more enjoyable with so many less people around! Social distancing & sanitizer everywhere . Staff was super friendly & helpful. Truly an amazing museum on every level.

The art is great however, I would not recommend coming here during the pandemic. The security guards hounded us about masks the second it slipped below our noses. Our group was very quiet and polite, however, one heavy set guard in particular took a liking to us and would do laps around whichever wing we were in. Would not recommend.

Beaaaaautiful establishment. The best art museum I have ever been to. We walked 5miles inside this building there was so much to see, we didn’t get to finish all of it we were there from 1-5 pm and had to zoom through all of it to see more I wish we could’ve spent more time admiring the art. A wonderful date idea, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and got a good work out in haha. I really wanted to be able to go into the lounge area because of the gothic architecture but it was closed due to COVID but I could see it still and snapped a few pictures. Hopefully next time I will be able to hang out in that area.

The staff treated us like criminals, I never been scolded so much in a 1 hour period. The exhibits were nice but I didnt appreciate being treated like that. I felt like I was being stalked by the mask nazis. I dont need extra stress like that during these trying times. Live and learn, I wont go back there.

An absolutely beautiful museum in the heart of Detroit. I love it here!! The museum is huge and offers exhibits that are fun for kids and breathtaking for adults. A very peaceful and serene place to visit. I know it’s free for wayne county residents, not sure if you aren’t, but i’m sure it’s relatively cheap. There’s a little cafe inside which is full of beautiful greenery. There are also lots of bars and restaurants in a close walking proximity!

This museum is world class. What a delight. The curation is superb. The collections are exceptional. We were particularly delighted with the individual descriptions of the art works. They are written with thoughtful interest, enjoyment and education in mind. We loved the comparisons of paintings, the Tintoretto ceiling, the gothic chapel, the Rivera atrium. The Bruegel Wedding Dance exhibition was stellar. We didnt see nearly enough for all the hours spent. We are already planning our return.

My favorite place to just hang out with friends in Detroit. Make sure to stop in at the Kresge Court. They have a great selection of herbal teas and wine. And actually a few Thai Noodle bowls and tapas that are quite tasty. Its a nice place to take your laptop and study, or just sit in a pretty place and have some deep thought-provoking conversations with friends. Make sure when you walk about the museum that you check out the corridors that go on the outside of the building they let in so much light and are really great for group photographs. Take note as you travel around e the museum that many of those windows look down into the Kresge court. if youre really adventurous youll find some of the tiny secret circular staircases. Theyre very neat. And its kind of cool.
