***The portion of trail at the entrance into the oasis is a scramble. The entire area was washed out. I noticed after I decided not to scramble up that it does lead to the upper portion is ok at entry/exit section near the ridge. It doesnt snake around like it did with some shade. This is probably one of the best areas in the desert (Palm Springs area) to get away.Correct me if Im wrong but the entire location is on the San Andreas Fault. The terrain varies from moon surface, oasis, canyons, run off, & palm courts among other sections. Also a native fish at the ponds Ive yet to visit. An equestrian area but Ive only seen a volunteer with a horse once after coming here for the last 15+ years. So many things to see when there. Mainly the birds. Apparently catching insects there are a thing. The oasis at the right time is awesome.
A Hiking We Will Go - Today, we hiked Pushawalla Palms. It’s part of a 17,000 acre preserve that is home to groves of desert fan palms nourished by water from the San Andreas fault. It’s also where you can see the rare Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard. The 4.2 mile loop was very scenic with lots of opportunities for pictures. It took about two hours to complete the hike going at a moderate pace. Helpful Hints: Be sure to take water and snacks. We took our hike in January and were happy we packed a light jacket.
Good experience
Hot hike, but well worth it for the views!
