Osbornedale State Park is a hidden gem in Connecticut. I have been coming here for many years. The fall is amazing to look at the foliage surrounding the lake.It is a peaceful park with picnic tables and ample parking in several spots. The park is kept very clean too.

Pretty cool trails in a very nice forest at points. At other points youll be wandering through a field wondering if this is really the trail and are those ticks crawling up your legs. I love rock walls and this hike had plenty of them, so theres that. The red trail took about 3.5 miles. We had dry, bug free conditions but I could see how it might get buggy and muddy at points. We accidentally strolled through a huge community garden next to a cemetery which was super cool (this being mid September). Many gardens were in full bloom which was an added bonus. All in all I dont know if Ill be back as there are so many places to hike and this was kind of annoying with the misleading trail markers and overgrown paths. Definitely worth trying once. I would hope they would have someone out there to do some trail maintenance soon. Oh, and we saw a snake, (which was cool)!

Had a great hike! Ct state parks have a downloadable trail maps that show your position on the trails. The trail markers here are good but a few tricky turns that made having this on my phone helpful! Trails offer some inclines.

Its nice to have such a well kept space in the valley. What an asset. I was able to have a peaceful lunch in the shade of the pavilion with my dog in leash. And afterward there are raspberry brambles surrounding the area from which you can pluck a few fresh berries for a tasty dessert. Thanks Derby.

This is an OK park. Some trails but kinda over grown. A bbq spot shaded open type. Fishing and light hiking and a gazebo. Best part of this park is a building that you can rent out for parties. It has benches, lots of room and parking for guests, a fire place, and attached outside male and female bathrooms. The restrooms are also pretty clean for a park. Running H20, soap, and TP.

There is an outdoor pavilion with a big stone fire place. We followed the red/yellow/red trail loop from near the pavilion, through the high and dry woods and back down through a marsh where we experienced the adventure of one of our party sinking to her thighs in the mud. It made for some dramatic moments, followed by a good laugh, but Id advise staying away from any wet ground near the pond. If there were a void under that mud, it could have turned out much worse. There is a lot of recently disturbed ground in the park with a lot of invasive, Barberry and Winged Staff bush as well as Phragmites reeds. This is the reality of southern New England though, and just an observation. There are also some interesting rock formations along the yellow trail, not spectacular, but thought provoking as to how long theyve been there and when they experienced the large fractures which you can actually see as pieces of a puzzle.

This place is great to take my dog because it is often quiet during the week. However, it is concerning that there are a minimum of 5 cars parked in the miscellaneous lots which have people sitting in them at any given time. I dont meant just for a few minutes, either. I mean for hours. One guy sitting in his truck had a dog who started to bark incessantly out the window at my dog, who responded back. He started yelling at the dog which only made both dogs freak out more. He did absolutely nothing to calm the situation, didnt roll his window up or move his truck, just yelled at his dog, who did not stop barking until we were out of sight. He continued to sit there for at least another hour as we still saw him in the same spot when we left the park. Disconcerting, to say the least. Many other cars have people sitting in them as well, just less disruptive.

Ive been coming here since I was just a preschooler. They have a beautiful pond that is perfect for fishing, they have trails, picnic areas, gazebos, picnic benches, public bathrooms, fireplaces, and much more. My family has hosted family parties here at the different gazebos, and other things. They have additional large scale gazebos up in the back with a lot of land for privacy. It is always peaceful, I learned to fish on this pond! Im looking forward to bringing my kids there when it is time to learn to fish!

You can find a quiet place away from everyone. The only drawback is that they close Exactly at dusk. And, they close most of the park November until April. But, I must say, how many places in conservative Connecticut, do you get to have a fire in the fireplace?
