I had a great experience with Larry in-store getting set up with some new line, leader, and tippet. As a beginner, it was nice to have someone be willing to answer simple questions and explain things clearly. I also took a fly casting lesson with the shop owner Ross and it was a fantastic experience! He was able to accommodate a private lesson during COVID and was full of energy and explained things very well. I went from not being able to cast to being able to double haul pretty well by the end of the 1 hour session. I highly recommend giving the shop a visit or taking one of their classes! Thanks yall!

I was looking to build my own custom fly rod and inquired with DFS about the process. I dont think this is an endeavor I would go at alone due to all the intricacies of the project. They got me all the materials I needed to build my own rod and we started building. Super fun to fish a self made rod and DFS has been building rods for years so he knows all the tips and tricks. Good price too.

Went in the shop knowing next to nothing about fly fishing minus a couple videos on the ole YouTube. The employee was very kind and engaging (Derek?). Almost an hour later I had a much better understanding of fly fishing, what are options to get into fly fishing and generally just a really good conversation.

I want to applaud and thank The Denver Fly Shop for an absolutely amazing guided fly fishing trip my S.O. and I got to take. This was my Valentines Day present and I could not have asked for a better day! From the first time I set foot in DFS I have felt welcome, comfortable, and not the least bit embarrassed about being a novice angler. Ross has been great. A huge shout out, though, goes to our guide, Shane. We spent 8 hours on the South Platte with Shane. He was a great teacher, informative, patient, and so much fun. We had a killer day and wound up with 9 fish in the net, lost a few good ones, and went home with a wealth of new knowledge and a contagious excitement. This already surpassed all expectations, but what has been even more awesome is that we have pestered Shane with additional questions, after he was off the clock with us. He has answered them all with the same enthusiasm he shared with us on the trip. Its so cool to be able to spend a day learning so much and having such a good time. Thank you, Denver Fly Shop, Shane, and Ross. You all have a great thing going. I highly recommend!! Tammy H

I took a fly tying class with Ross! I had never tied a fly before and he walked me through the tools and basics of fly tying. At the end of the class I walked out with two wooly booger flys that I tied on my own (with coaching and guidance from Ross). Had lots of fun and will definitely be back to learn more!

Went out with Spencer on a full day to Deckers and could not be happier with the experience. Not only is he an expert photographer, he is a great teacher. Im fairly experienced in fly fishing, but Spencer taught me a great deal about sight fishing. If you decide to fish the local rivers, I highly recommend Spencer. Thanks for great time and experience. Ill never forget that take on the hopper!

Had a great half day at Deckers with Shane. He tailored our time towards what I wanted to get out of the trip and focused on technique (casting, line management, selecting water and drift depth etc.) over simply landing fish. We fished nymphs, but he made a point of adding a dry-fly casting lesson at the end, and we even turned over some rocks so he could explain the entomology of sport!Ross was super helpful and accommodating when I called up the shop. Ill definitely be back!

I had a personal lesson with an instructor Jeff and his counterpart and worked with Ross and there was absolutely nothing they couldnt help with or answer. They went out of their way to teach the real fundamentals of fly fishing in a fun and personal fashion. Couldnt have asked for more and they beat by expectations by 100%. Thanks guys Ill be buying rods and lessons in the near future

Just a really great fly shop! They have a decent selection of fly tying materials and tools, tons of well tied flies, high quality rods and reels, and all the essential terminal tackle. Prices are pretty hard to beat as well. The best part is that these guys are incredibly courteous, knowledgable, and willing to take a minute to help you out in any way you need. Ross and Calvin are both very friendly and will make you feel right at home.

I have had experience with the staff at Denver Fly Shop both purchasing equipment as well as on a guide trip. I cant speak highly enough of Ross and his team. Ross displays a passion for the sport that is evident in his teaching on the water as well as a simple conversation in the shop about a piece of equipment.I hired Ross to take a buddy of mine and I out to the Dream Stream. I have fly fished for years, and my buddy had never touched a fly rod. I needed someone who could dedicate their time teaching him the right way to fly fish. Ross was able to tailor his teaching very well between an experienced fisherman and a beginner. Ross was extremely patient with my buddy and explained step by step, not only the how tos of fly fishing, but why he was doing what he was doing. His knowledge of the river as well as the entomology (science of bugs) proved to be a great resource. Ross was extremely attentive and focused on making both of us better. There are no dumb questions with Ross.Great store, great people.

Stopped in for the first time when in Denver a couple weeks ago. They were nice folks and helped me pick out some new flies to try. They were the most expensive flies I have ever purchased so I had to take off a star. Despite this I will probably stop by the next time I am in the neighborhood.

Ive know Ross (the owner) for about a year now. He knew I use to fly fish and had been trying to get me to get back into the sport. Well I finally did it. I gathered a group of other ladies and we attended a couple of the shops Ladies Night. Not only did we learn a lot but Ross give back to the community by collecting can goods on each of those nights. The ladies were so excited to try their hand, we set up a day trip with Ross, Noel and Eric as our guides. What a great day!! They provided all of the gear, tent for shade, food/beverages. We had a safety lesson, learned more about knots, leaders, how to properly cast. They were so patient with us and all of our questions. We went on the hunt for bugs to compare to the flies we were using and we spent about 4 hours on the river. What a great time! We didnt want to leave. LOL!! We will defiantly be going back for another guide trip!! I will be recommending his shop to everyone whos into the sport. Thank you again for a great experience!!

I first happened into the Denver Fly Shop for their February 2017 Ladies Night. As a novice angler, getting into fly fishing can be intimidating, so I felt that this was a great way to start, and I was right! The evening was informative and fun! The experts (an entomologist from Colorado State University!), and sponsors (Umpqua!) were fabulous.I made new friends and met guides I look forward to fishing with in the future. I appreciated that the night was engaging and informative, and also that the owner, Ross, took the opportunity to gather canned goods for a food drive- he not only runs an incredible business, but an ethical one that gives back to the community. After my first great experience, my boyfriend and I returned a week later and Ross got me outfitted in my first set of waders and boots! Because Im tall with tiny feet, Im not easy to fit, but Ross made it happen. My boyfriend is an experienced fly fisherman, and was very impressed with the shop and with Rosss expertise and customer service. I am looking forward to continuing my fly fishing journey with the help of the Denver Fly Shop!
