Historic Denton County Square! Storefront merchants, coffee shops and outdoor dining are abundant at every corner and in-between! Bling Blinky of Texas Shout Out: Famous-people and more seen here on the square! Never know WHO your gonna run into! Saw an Elvis Tribute Artist in a Pink Cadillac - Cool!!!
I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at the Denton Courthouse Square. The drive was approximately 30 min. from my home. The temp was in the high 90s but under the large shade trees it felt 10° cooler. A nice breeze was blowing also. I had prepared a swanky picnic lunch that included wine (Non-alcoholic), hordureves, and other lite fare. There was a jazz band playing and a volunteer group was handing out free snacks and water. There was a nice crowd but social distancing was not a problem at all. The vibe was unbelievably nice. I am definitely going back again. A great way to spend an afternoon.
Great old town !! To eat in the local restaurant and have a ice cream !! There is something for everyone !! Please visit Denton Texas !!
Love hanging at the square, has been a place of music, laughter, families, and couples for over 50 years of my life. I include a photo of The Confederate Soldier, because if we erase our past or hide it away (in a museum) we are doomed to repeat our past. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. - George Santayana (1863-1952)
Museum is incredibly educational and informative about Denton County history. I learned a lot about our origins and the towns early history. The curators were all very kind and knowledgeable and seemed very passionate about their work.
I cant say I have a more personal, comfortable, outdoor spot that gives me the free reign of meeting with friends and setting up shop.A true creative persons dream space, Ive had birthdays, parties and bday tea parties here in this perfect space. Surrounded by a tributaries of fine things to do a sandwich, coffee, pack of hemp cigs, or a beer is literally a hop away.If I hadnt ever lived in NOLA then I might call this my favorite square; all the same, it definitely deserves my 5 stars.
Ive lived here for years and didnt know all of the local history. This great little museum that helped remedy that. Small, but packs in more than you would expect. Very interesting and informative displays. Some great antique items from Texas past too. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only downside is the parking. The museum is literally the center of the city center. Since there are so many fantastic shops and things to see here, you almost always have to park a block or two away. But then you get to pass by all the cool shops too, so not much of a downside.
A little slice of Denton history plus a great property to relax on a great day.
This is a beautiful town square. And Im from out of state just passing through. The court house is huge and stunning. I love the garden store called the Garden Gate on Elm street. Awesome stores all around including an ice cream store, a pub and restaurants to enjoy! I was actually at LSA Burger Co. right across the Courthouse and its view from said location was stunning! There are a lot of little antique gift shops and bars around the area. Its a historical landmark location so dont expect to find anything fancy or modern. Loved the place!
The place looks great with small museum inside, very well maintained
Free. It was pretty vacant on Thanksgiving week, but this is a gem building and interior. We just wandered around on our own. Beautiful elevators. Interesting WWII cases with ration cards, old recipe books, posters. Building itself has gorgeous old safes (go to basement) and a gallery balcony courtroom that reminds of “To Kill a Mockingbird” scenes. Neat! Worth walking into a long-ago era.
It was interesting to know about denton and the square more and most of it was set up quite cool. Not a bunch to look at though
This is part of our Countys long history preserved. It sits in the center of town and is well manicured and cared for. Theres a museum open inside daily l believe. This courthouse is the center of our towns square and is surrounded on all 4 sides by quaint & unique locally owned restraunts, coffee shops, bars, and a back in time candy store w/ a cool comic store. During spring and summer theres car shows, rallies, movies on the courthouse lawn, weddings, & local dog festivities taking place there. Its a great place to picnic or play pokemon. Free to public.
Good time very information very friendly informative host gave us the rundown on history of Denton County a lot of exhibition of different types of barbed wire from the 1800 interesting Courthouse interesting people interesting location worth the day to see it
Worth a visit and if youre in Denton go to the Town Square. Great restaurants, retail stores, coffee shops, and taverns. Always a diverse group of unique people music and events in the area. The 100 plus year old building is a great backdrop for photos or just to sit and ponder life back then.
Beautiful area to explore! My friends and I who are local decided to ride the Dart train up for a day trip - enjoyed the coffee shop, the used book store, lunch, and the candy shop. Great place to spend a few hours and quality time with friends!
This is one of the best places to come out tooin the afternoons or throughout the day and just hang out, you can do Pokemon if you do that or just walk to different restaurants different bars the selection is awesome the People Are Awesome come experience it for yourself!
Beautiful historical building built in 1895 sitting on lush green lawns in the middle of the square surrounded by unique shops and eateries.
Currently under construction. Really looking forward to seeing what it will look like when completed.Really wish they had more parking! Especially on the west side of the building.
Nice place to visit with a family
What an amazing building. It is beautiful on the square.
It was amazing there was a and playing out front and my family and I stopped to listen and lived the small shops!
My wife and I got married on the steps here during Christmas time. It was beautiful
Beautiful construction, rich with history and a focal point for the community
I pretty much lived on the courthouse grounds there in Denton for almost a month while passing through on my travels. I met great people. I was surrounded by live music, yoga groups, and very interesting scenery. From the elderly regulars that arrived each morning at dawn for coffee at the nearby cafes, to the artsy college students who visited the clubs and bars spotting the square during the late night hours the place never had a dull moment. My fellow street wanderers, and even the authorities that patrolled the courthouse grounds , each and every one there as a matter of fact, were nothing but kind and generous and made my short lived stay an amazing one. I cant wait to return. I love you Denton!
Beautiful setting especially at night. Dont miss the museum inside if you are into that type of thing because its not very well advertised and had no idea it was even a thing until i saw another couple walk in.
Good customer service. Don’t have to wait in line for vehicle registrations
Fantastic museum if youre interested in in local history.
Small, but very interesting. The older gentleman at the information desk was very helpful and informative
Great place and much happenings and cool place to hang out anytime.
Food was priced high while the choice was sparse. The taste was at an ordinary chain level. Overwhelming amount of onions with fish. The appetizer was great. But both main dishes were lacking and were repeating through the night. Disappointing.
I didn’t ask to be brought to this place but the security people took good care of keeping us safe and my judge and his staff were fair and reasonable and looked out for my children’s best interest in the end my kids were well taken care of and that’s the important part
Lovely little museum gave me an idea on the history of the town
Great place to come and learn about Denton at the museum.Spend time the quaint shops and enjoy the many places to eat around the square.
The courthouse has beautiful architecture. The museum inside is always changing, with interesting topics and awesome illustrations by Joe Duncan. If youre very lucky you might be able to talk sometime into letting you go up onto the roof where youll get the most amazing and rare view in all of Denton.
Denton is the most racist town I’ve ever been to, don’t get pulled over for being blk or mexican all I have to say
This is the place to come for some novelty! There are countless coffee shops, book stores, ice cream shops to go explore. Have a tasty burger at LSA burger, or have some ice cream at Beth Maries. There is also a fascinating used book store on the north east corner. This is the parade bub. We many special events here. Come check it out for a grand time.
I was born and raised in Denton. My Dads office was in the basement on the North side of the building.. In the 1950s the Denton County Welfare Department was in the basement and he was a Welfare Agent for the state of Texas and thats where his office was. I would go to work with him sometimes in the summer and I remember playing on the grounds and the outside stairways. Although I no longer live in Denton, I have many fond memories of the Court House on the Square.Sincerely,Jim Gantt
A gorgeous old building. Going into the basement feels like stepping into a medieval dungeon
Very modern and well laid out. Great if ur not there as a defendant, lol.
Beautiful....area fun to play Pokemon
Quaint texas town with this beautiful 1800 style courthouse!
Its a cool little area to visit walk around.
The hub of Denton. A must see for all visitors, and my personal favorite space. We spend so much time here, and it never gets old. So much history.
This place is pretty much the site of all my most pivotal life choices.
Great place. Historical, free wifi on the square and everything within walking distance!
Well preserved historic landmark. This entire block is a great environment. Beside the surrounding stores, restaurants and coffee shops they will occasionally have musicians playing on the lawn during the weekends. I also attended a concert on the lawn once. Great place!
Lots of great historical exhibits. Friendly staff
Quick in and out. No lines. Plenty of people waiting to help.
Wonderful architecture and great small town vibe.
You Need to visit this place. This is not only running court house but there is a little museum where you can see History of Denton.
This museum is located in the center of the City of Dentons historic square. Its presence is unmistakable. It is a popular tourist attraction complete with memorials, artifacts, and objects that are fit for a museum. The building itself is the largest museum piece. It is surrounded by many local shops that give an experience that is truly unique.
This area is so much fun to visit. Theres so much to see and so much history. Ive taken some of the tours here and have been thoroughly impressed.
Denton is a beautiful, lively town square
Awesome...so informative.
Nice lil place to walk around
If youre interested in local history, youll enjoy the old courthouse on the square. The lawn is where the real fun takes place though. Music, movies, group gatherings, yoga, and many other events take place on the lawn.
Commissioners Court still holds its meetings here. Open to the public every Thursday morning at 9. Watch county government business in action. Great museum with Civil War artifacts. And the building itself is quite an artifact. Next time youre on the Square, go inside.
It was great to see the old court house it was very nice.too.the part of old Denton was nice too..
Interesting local museum
Historical and truly beautiful courthouse at the heart of the city. Love how much activity there is at the courthouse, including live music. Excellent place to take in the culture of Denton.
Awesome
Still in cleaning and restoration efforts but great history and the staff is full of knowledge. There are no exhibits at moment but the building is open to look around. Bring the family.
Beautiful architecture. Nice to go there and marvel at how amazing it is. It is hard to imagine how something that beautiful and big could be made so long ago.
Beautiful building and wonderful information!
Small town feel with an uptown vibe.
Music on Saturday morning nice and shady
Good history.
Has a wonderful museum inside about the history of Denton, as well as its colleges. Sometimes they open up the top floor, so you are able to look out on the square from the courthouse balcony.
This is the perfect spot to chillax in the grass with some friends when the weather is nice. We bring our sketchbooks, some people bring instruments... And there’s coffee, shops, & food around if you need a lil’ something extra. The only reason I’m rating this two stars & not five is because of the incredibly racist statue out front. Oh, you haven’t heard? There’s a monument that’s glorifying a confederate soldier sitting outside for everyone to see. It’s not inside a museum, it’s just out in the open. Luckily there are protests every week from people trying to tear it down. Anyway. It’s a great spot if you can ignore the blind racism embedded in our heritage for a second.
Historic place. Worth a visit
What a beautiful downtown square!
Great place. Part of the exhibit has moved, temporarily, a few blocks west.
Its such a gorgeous place to be. I like sitting on the steps and the benches. Its nice to just people watch.
Very convenient, fast service and reliable people.
A great area to walk around if its a nice evening. Aside from the fact that some locals keep vandalizing the property due to certain history aspects, its a great area to take your friends or family to visit.
Beautiful campus, great place to play pokemon go or listen to music.
I love the atmosphere.
Nice place to go if you want to see people around. Denton is a quiet town, if you wanna see and meet people, then it is the right place
Enjoying tbe events they had where people enjoying the music from the unt.
Beautiful
Great museum and historic landmark, place that shows history of Denton, and how it got its name. Very beautiful area around it, and awesome restaurants to eat at around the square. If you are passing through on a trip, or either live here and havent been here, visit the Denton square, its a place never to forget. Lots of variety in peoples choice of clothing and variety of different restaurants and pubs to dine at.
The cool part is closed for renovations
This place is a historic gem!
Never been there except on the lawn, they had a Bernie Commie Fart Convention, no one there. That same wore out looking woman you see on tv trying to tell me about socialism. I said your exactly what our forefather fought and died against, please get out of my face.....
