The gentleman that helped us was Christopher and he was an awesome gentleman very knowledgeable very delightful will definitely return to his shop I bought a lot this time he has some wonderful stuff and wonderful information to share with you
Very informative! On the outside there are lots of geos and thundereggs! When we went there is a roadrunner that made her nest in a window. Scared the buggers out of me when we accidentally disturbed her!On the inside there are lots of polished rocks that are absolutely beautiful and for sale! This is worth a stop if you are in the area!
Chris is very knowledgeable. A must stop by and see the collection. You can purchase to open yourself or already cut and polished! A true treasure find!
If you wanna see rocks in all states from direct-from-the-mine to cut and polished, then the Basin Range Volcanics Geolapidary Museum in Deming, New Mexico is the place to be. Do not expect to see a two-story building nor a map guide nor an information desk when you reach the museum. The small dilapidated-looking house is located in the middle of a desert and isolated, close to the entrance of the Rockhound State Park.I missed it the first time I was there as my GPS could not find its exact location. I only realized that I was hundreds of meters past my destination when I saw a sign that said I am would be entering the Rockhound State Park. A quick u-turn and a few minutes of slow driving led me to a sign “Rock Shop.”It is a little house, indeed! But full of beautifully-colored, shining rocks. Geodes, they are called, rocks of sedimentary origin that are formed by chemical precipitation. His name is Christopher. The guy who manages the place. He is so cool and friendly!
Awesome little shop. Chris has such a wealth of knowledge! Worth stopping!
The proprietor of this museum/rock shop is so passionate and knowledgeable about the geology of this area.
Fun place for a visit, I learned a lot and saw a wonderful collection of local rocks and geology items. Stop in you wont regret it.
Christopher is a wealth of information and somewhat of a rockhound celebrity, considering the geological discoveries he and his late partnerthe geode kid accomplished in the formation of lithophysae and geodes. If you dont buy any rocks consider bringing a donation of black oil sunflower seeds for his bird feeders, which are frequented by all sorts of wildlife and the occasional longhorn steer!
Great place beautiful rocks
It wasnt what I was expecting, a museum, but thats okay. The owner of this rock shop was a pretty cool guy. Hes very chatty, friendly, and hes knowledgeable about the geology of the area. He had some amazing specimens and could tell you where they came from and how they were all formed. Most things were available for purchase at a reasonable price. Its not the Spanish Stirrup. Thats different. This one is at Stirrup and Stagecoach.
Thunder eggs from New Mexico two other locations
Really oddball different--worth an hour or two or three! The proprietor has great knowledge of all things geode.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff! A diamond in the rough for any rock enthusiast
What a great man! Lots of helpful information and laughs!
I questioned stopping but it was worth it! The owner jumped up and gave us a history lesson like none other. We will be back!
