Well maintained trails that are easy to follow. Should you choose to go counter clockwise, you can take the outer loop (watch out for the Horse landmines!) to experience the open prairie and then head into some very nice canopied forrest area. If you are a trail runner, this is a great place to do training (albeit a little on the short side)...also if a regular runner, this is a great place to do hill repeats. As others have mentioned, after a rain it can definitely get muddy.

Very neat area for exploring. The set path made it easy to make sure my toddler didnt run off. The changing scenery kept our attention while we wandered the paths.

Almost 8 miles of multi user trails. Available for walking, hiking, running and equestrian use as trail conditions allow. Beautiful area for all types of photography .

This is a gorgeous stand of timber with rolling moraines, well maintained trails, broad open meadows, gentle streams and an abundance of flora and fauna. I have seen hawks, owls, vultures, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, groundhogs and a wide variety of songbirds, butterflies and flowering plants there. Sand Creek is a beautiful community asset of Central Illinois.

The best place in Decatur to get lost. Macon County Conservation does an excellent job maintaining the trails. Pay attention to the previous days weather. It can get wet and muddy. Wear water proof shoes if you plan on walking the full trail.

Horseback Riding at Sand Creek is wonderful. The trails are always mowed; there are creek crossings and some hills, lots of woods - 7.5 miles. The only wish I have is that there could be more trails. SOOOOO NICE! The park rangers are very courteous. They always turn off the mower/tractor/4-wheeler and back of the trail. Hikers are also allowed, so beware if youre horse isnt used to that. ;)

This is a great place for a nice walk in the woods with a great friend! Its an equestrian conservation area and people take their horses through the trails. Its sure nice to walk through there when nobody has horses.

Beautiful heavily wooded horse and walking trails. Several shallow creeks traverse these trails. Lovely place but quite a few deer and horse flies attack you on the trails at various intervals. Well kept trails.

As an academic ecologist I am glad that says places exist so that people might enjoy the Prairie and local ecological features in situ
