Super fun. If you ever wanted to try glass blowing, this place makes it easy for you. The instructors are both experienced and patient. They have a great safety briefing and youll make a keepsake which you can pick up 48 hours later. Prices are reasonable. Nice showroom with unique gifts. Kid friendly. Bring a date!

WOW!!! Decatur Glassblowing and Carolina (pronounced Caroline). My son and I were looking for something unique and fun to do today and stumbled upon this wonderful experience in lovely Decatur. We will never forget the time we had with instructor Carolina who helped us make dancing starfish, exotic flowers, and really cool paperweights all out of glass. It was like Vegas - 3 hours booked for 2 and it felt like 30 minutes. Many thanks Decatur Glassblowing and Carolina for an unforgettable time with my son.

All of the people here are super nice, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. You get to decide how much hand holding you get in their workshops. Theyll make sure you dont mess things up badly (or help you restart if you do) while still letting you give your work unique quirks. My friends and I made pumpkins there recently and it was a blast. Making the pumpkin only took about 10 minutes and you were free to leave after making yours. Only two people can work with glass at a time and they tend to go in order of sign in. Theyre flexible though and will let you move in the list to watch/take pictures of your friend. They also give you some choices in making your pumpkin like base and stem colors, how large and fat to make it, and you can make the stem by yourself if you want. Im sure they offer similar choices for their other workshops. The people are also happy to answer any random questions you have about glassblowing like how certain techniques are done. They also offer private events if they arent busy with sign ups for their seasonal stuff. The only really negative thing here is the parking. Its terrible. I highly suggest carpooling if youre going with multiple people. They have a tiny lot that can hold about 3 cars and a handicap spot. You can also park on the little side street its on but its not long so it could easily run out at a popular time. That said it was a great experience and I really want to go back!

Wonderful, accessible, activity! I brought my best friend to the Flower Class on Saturday, and we both found it to be an enriching experience. Very hands on but comfortable, laid back time to enjoy watching an artist creating glass work in the space adjacent to the class area, as fellow students created their flowers with the help Abigail! What a hidden gem! I heard about them through Facebook and cant believe weve had such a cool place right here in Decatur! This wasnt a pay to watch me type of class, the customers actually participate. The women who taught the class are experienced and relaxed, making the class fun and informative. Having an actual product to display in my home after the class was just the cherry on top. Now I have a functional and beautiful decoration that is also a keepsake from our time there. Will definitely be going back!

This was a lot of fun, and a cool way to have a memento while spending time with family and friends. You do spend 1.5 hours there, and it really only takes 5 minutes to make an ornament because the instructor basically does everything that requires skill for you. Personally, I didnt mind because they had beer, and you spend the rest of the time chatting and cheering your friends on when its their turn.

This was on my bucket list but I have to admit I was nervous and a bit intimidated. Nathan put those fears to rest immediately. He is the owner, as well as one of the guys who helps teach classes. He let us know that he was willing to help as much or as little as we needed. He began by demonstrating step by step what the procedure was. He then let us know if we wanted to skip our turn and come back that was fine as well. We skipped our turn and let two people go ahead of us so we could watch. Nathan is very patient with the class. He tells you what to do next after each step, instead of assuming you would remember. He explains that the color you chose wont be vibrant until it cools completely. All colors appear orange at first. Im posting the before and after pictures so you get an idea of what they looks like in both stages. I chose the blue and my girlfriend chose the multi color. They have to cool overnight and get the base sanded so they are not available to be picked up immediately. If you live close by thats not an issue but if you dont, they do offer shipping options. We just ran back up the following weekend and picked ours up.The experience was hands on and a lot of fun. They offer different classes for each holiday or you can book a private class to try making more difficult things. I would recommend that everyone try this at least once. We will definitely be back.

Have you ever had the urge to try an activity that sounds absolutely riveting, but you were afraid of the learning curve, the potential health risks, or social anxiety? This is your solution to trying the art of glassblowing. Decatur Glassblowing is a very quaint shop that is very far off the beaten path. Its biggest highlights are the staff and their attention to safety, detail, and fun! They are very friendly, show you step-by-step how to make your own pieces and hold your hand as much as you would like them to (if placing a rod with melted glass into a furnace is not for you). Before you go: check to see if they have any special classes going on. ex. September and October they are featuring glass pumpkins to create. Also, think ahead of what color schemes you would like, you can be traditional, or as wild as you would like to be!You can join in a group, but I would recommend individual lessons/date night plans to enjoy the experience in a more intimate setting.

Taken 3 classes now with them. All have been date night activities (leaving the 3 kids at home with their grandparents moohahahaha). Obviously its a very hot activity. Believe the furnaces are running above 2K degrees. Classes are generally smaller. Maybe 12-20 people. Just depends on who signs up. Parking is limited but more available around the corner. They of course have a large showroom of premade glasswork if the class is not your thing. Worker with few different instructors now. Did a class that was actually glass blowing. Other 2 classes were just hot glass work. They run through an example prior to bringing you up to do yours. They give you as much control as they can if you are comfortable doing that. Have 2 stations generally going simultaneously. If you go as a couple as it seems has always been the case in our classes you can watch each other go or separate if you just like but dont love that date. They let you pick your colors. Have finished samples of what the colors should look close to when done. When done you have to leave your work for 24-48hrs for annealing (they slowly bring it down from 1000 or so degrees). If you are not local and would rather have it shipped its been a reasonable rate to do that everytime for us. Shows up at our door lovingly packed. Ive worn t-shirts, jeans and they require closed toe shoes for sure. Cotton us suggested. Most classes are set up for beginners who may have never attempted this before. We certainly felt more comfortable the repeat classes. They seem to enjoy repeat students and while they may not remember names seem to know they have seen us before. Classes change through the year. Pumpkins in the fall, flowers in the spring, ornaments in the winter, egg paper weights around Easter. Outside of the classes they can also do custom work for you as well. We will return again soon.

My wife and I found this place online, booked our Sunday matinee date online, and used Google Maps to find this gem, nestled snugly in a quiet spot near downtown Decatur. We couldnt imagine the entire experience being any better! We opted for the group pumpkin class, and our instructor, Lee, has nearly 50 years experience in glassblowing. He was so encouraging, kind, helpful, and fun! I am confident that my pumpkin creation will be mediocre at best, but the experience was amazing! The instructors allowed the students as much independence in making our own art as safety protocols allow, but were there helping and encouraging us each step of the way, ready and willing to rescue you if necessary. I cant say enough good things about Lee - thanks for making our time so wonderful! Highly recommend you spend the time and money to check this place out!
