Fun place for kids. We stopped by for the face painting during. the Mardi Gras fest and my kids wanted to stay in the play area. I will say they wanted to learn more about trains when we left. My daughter loved the dress up clothes and my son loved playing with the payphone.

This is a first class museum. Trust me, I have been to a few. One of the reasons it is so fun to visit is not just the modern feel to the displays and exhibits but how much they have to work with. Not only were there Native Americans in the region. Not only was the town in the middle of much of the American Civil War in Virginia. But millions of years ago there were dinosaurs running about. They know because they have all the footprints the dinosaurs left behind. Perfect for visitors of all ages.

We have visited Culpeper several times over the last year, and began our visit here at the museum / Visitors Center to get the scoop on what Culpeper has to offer. If you are looking for local information, and a slice of local history, this is the place to start!Super nice, knowledgeable, informative folks. Wiling and able to give to information on just about every business, shop, brewery and winery in the general Culpeper area and also provide a wonderfully insightful history lesson too.We stopped by this past weekend just to say hello, given how helpful they have been to us, and to check in to see if there were any special events happening.Highly recommend that you stop by here if you are looking for local insight too.

This is a really neat museum for a small town. The location in the train station makes it just a bit better than the norm.

The museum was very interesting. Had a great area for kids to dress up and the Dino tracks. The location is great and it’s right by the train tracks, with trains going by. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because the displays with all the wording were put together so some of the wording was cut off and an interactive part wasn’t working and when I told the lady who took our money, she said she was just a volunteer but she would let someone know. The coolest picture was hung so high that you couldn’t really see it and appreciate it. We really enjoyed learning about all the Culpeper history.

Interesting little museum on Culpeper, Virginia history. Covers the three Civil War battles that took place in the vicinity in great detail. Also talks a lot about Reconstruction after the Civil War and how the town recovered. There was a new exhibit that paid tribute to three men who were lynched in the Culpeper area and the broad scope of racial tensions and Civil Rights in the Post Civil War US. The historical artifacts are interesting, and the written information traces Culpeper history back to the 1750s.Plus lots and lots of charming photos of note-worthy townspeople in sports, entertainment, etc. from the modern era. The construction of buildings and bridges. A highlight was a fossilized dinosaur footprint 125 million years old that you can touch (!) with great diagrams and artwork explaining the geology of the quarry where they were found. Theres also a childrens room for them to play in.

The History Museum is wonderful....small enough to take in and not get overwhelmed and its set within the walls of the train station. You can experience the Amtrac train pulling in and again out on its way to the nations capitol. Culpeper is an old town. I have a XXXXXgreat grandfather who i trace to early 1700s in Culpeper
