As a cook who searches out lost Southern ingredients and recipes as well as an amateur homesteader, I love every visit to this farm as I learn something new every time. While not open to the public on a regular basis, the farm does have educational groups that are available year round and can be found via a quick Google search.

School Field Trip with 3rd graders! It was hands down the best field trip I have ever taken my classes on in the past 30 years! Students agreed as well! There was so much hands on activities, like getting to simulate milking a cow, watching baby chicks hatch, plowing a mule (with help), using a 2 man saw, riding in a covered wagon pulled by a team of big white horses, etc... The presenters were so knowledgeable and were able to put info on childs level. Students probably learned more about history in that 1 jam packed day than they could in a whole year! I guarantee you that will remember it a lot longer than anything they learned from a book! They had 5 or 6 stations which our students rotated through. They took us to each station on a hay wagon pulled by a tractor. I wish every child in our school could have attended. They do this through the week for schools and on the weekend its open to the public. Greatest field trip ever. Oh, this during the month of October, I think.

This is a great place for children to learn about life on the farm in the 1930s. Hay rides, animals, hands on experiences (like milking cows, sawing logs, picking okra etc. ), and informative lectures at each station of the tour. The eldest Mrs. Peinhardt doesn’t put up with shenanigans from unruly kids, lol. Loved her, and this field trip.
