Absolutely beautiful and so serene! We enjoyed watching turtles, cranes, herons, and deer wandering through the woods and all along the lake! The Military Equipment display was also really interesting, and the plaques provide a lot of detail on the use and evolution of various weapons and vehicles. The RV campground is very well-appointed, with level pea gravel for tent sleeping/patio area for a camper, a very nice playground, community center, laundry, and bath house. The campground hosts are very friendly and helpful. Im excited to try the Pioneer Campsites next time! I was most surprised at how easy it was to access from the interstate.

We really enjoyed our time Glamping at this campground. We were backed in at site #21 on the water.. The camp hosts were camped nearby, always readily available and very nice folks. Campground was very clean. In between each reservation the camp hosts are inspecting and cleaning the empty sites. Bathhouses/laundry are in the middle of each section. They are kept clean. Lastly, a lot of these campsites have very long driveways.

Really nice park! We visited the museum and outside exhibits during this visit. The grounds are beautiful. The museum isn’t huge but they have some really neat stuff. We were on a long road trip and this was a pit stop to stretch our legs and see some cool things. My boys loved the tanks, planes and other military vehicles. Also a beautiful memorial.

Great place for kayak adventure. If you want a deep swamp experience with lots of birds and possibly some gators it is easily accessible here. As you enter the park the main lake is on the right and a large pond to the left. Enter the lake at the boat ramp on the left. Then paddle under the bridge to the pond. Head straight back to the train bridge. May have to look carefully for an opening under the bridge to the other side. Just proceed on back in the swamp from there. Watch closely for the the alligators. Very calm water. Nice and peaceful. No motor boats. Probably no one else in sight. The main lake is also good for kayaking. Good place for fishing.

Clean park, nice clean restrooms that were well stocked. Mosquitoes were relentless, bring plenty of spray!! Lake was pretty stagnant near sites 1 thru 11. The $65 per night site fee was a little excessive for a state park and the only reason I didnt give 5 stars.

Beautiful Park and the campground was pretty great, except for the lack of sewerage at the campsites. We had a site on the water and it was a great spot to wake up in the morning and watch the sun come up over the lake. We had an osprey that spent time fishing right by our campsite. The war memorial with the tanks and cannons is pretty cool to check out. Also, kayaking (we haul our own) was great. We will definitely go back. The train ride to Plains was not what we had hoped. The ride to Plains took forever, then you have very minimal time.in Plains to see anything, before you have to jump on the train to take the long dragged out ride back to Veterans Park. If you like sitting on a train crawling along (I believe the train moved at 3-5 miles an hour most of the trip. Sometimes we went up to 10mph.), this is for you. If you want to spend time in Plains, Drive There. All in all, we had a great time.

Great experience! My family traditionally vacations at the beach every year. However, due to the covid-19 pandemic we decided to vacate somewhere a little less crowded. We chose Georgia Veterans State Park and absolutely loved it. We rented 2 cabins and stayed for 3 nights and 4 days (shorter time because we werent sure if we would like it). We took jet skis and rented a pontoon boat and stayed on the lake most of the time. The cabins were what you would expect at a campground...the basics. Friendly staff at the marina. A pool as well. Our family enjoyed it so much that we may start vacationing on Lake Blackshear, although next time we will rent a house with a private boat ramp.

(November, 2018) Beautiful place. Friendly staff. QUIET!!! Hurricane hit pretty hard but they are working on getting debri cleaned up. Met many wonderful VOLUNTEERS who are assisting with the clean-up. Thank you to those who are donating time, money, and labor.Toured the surrounding area and home owners are still cleaning up, too. For those who have never encountered a hurricane, it can takes months (sometimes years) to recover. Cordele was hit hard economically due to the amount of pecan farms in the area. I highly recommend Georgia Veterans State Park.2nd review (March 23, 2019) - stayed at campground for a week this time - on loop 3. Thomas and Laura (campground hosts) were the best! Hubby and I cant believe these two retirees put in 35 hours a week (or more). The park is stunning, with lots to do. We rode our bicycles each day, took walks, hubby rode his roller blades, we played archery (rent equipment from the office), went sightseeing, and I took several naps out in the warm sun. Each day wed go over to the lake to watch the sun go down. There are deer everywhere. Discovered Striplings General Store, which is outside the main gate, and stopped going in to town for groceries. Striplings had just about anything you might need. Cant wait for my next vacation so that we can go back.3rd Review. Stayed at campground again for Christmas week. So nice and quiet - just peaceful. For the most part, the loop had 3-4 campers - so, it was like having the whole place to ourselves. Lol Got to see Thomas and Laura again, which was nice (theyre amazing volunteers,). Different sightseeing places this time. There were so many deer everywhere! Hubby and I took an evening drive around the entire park each night just to hear nature and see the come out. Fun!

The park is great! It has a lot of very beautiful areas, you can enjoy the park, the lake and even just a walk through the woods to reconnect with nature. There was quite a bit of yellow jackets that seem to linger in the area, but we didnt have any major issues while we were there. The attendant at the entrance was super friendly and helpful. Overall Id give it a 5/5 because of the overall experience. Its a great place to visit.

I absolutely loved this park. There was do much to do for everyone. They had 3 play grounds, a swimming area, an archery range, and fishing. The lake was drain some but it didnt bother us, we still fished. Most of the campsites are a good size and spaced out pretty well. The bathrooms were clean and kept well. There was a washer and dryer at the bath house also. We seen lots of deer and even a Bob cat. We had site 16, which was. It waterfront but we still had a good view.

What a lovely place. This is a big park. We stopped to have a picnic and found a small visitor center, several displays of military equipment and plenty of undeveloped land. The visitors center is small but clean and the staff was friendly. Right outside the visitors center was displays showing large guns, tanks, helicopters with display board explaining them. It was a great place for a picnic or just a place to enjoy the outdoors. I recommend this place for anyone who appreciates the outdoors and static displays.

This place was trashed by Hurricane Michael. The roads and campsites are cleared but the debris is piled everywhere. Georgia State budget cuts have caused a severe shortage in manpower and equipment to handle the cleanup. The lake is seriously down affecting the fishing and pretty much any other recreation. They have a stupid rule disallowing tents on lakefront camp sites. I guess if you cant afford a $50,000 RV, Georgia Veterans State Park prefers you stay somewhere else. Cant have tent trash folks ruining the neighborhood.

We have been camping here at Ga. Veterans State Park for many, many years now. We always have a great time, whether were out on Lake Blackshear boating, tubing or fishing, at the marina eating a great meal at Cypress Grill or just hanging out at the campsite talking, playing games, meeting some of the greatest people on the planet throughout the campground or just sitting back and taking it easy which is what its all about! The campgrounds are well kept as well as the bath houses and restrooms. The workers there do a good job of keeping the banks of the campsites at the water pretty clean and clear where campers can park their boats when they arent out on the water and overnight as well. We love it also because its only right at 30 minutes from our house. Quick and easy to get to and reasonably priced campsites, especially if you are a US Veteran with a service connected disability and you have a Georgia State Park Discount Card. You get a 25% discount for just about everything.
