Great place to go hiking. There are nice trails and ponds. It is a nice little gem hidden off the extremely busy road. The only downside is there are no bathrooms and trashcans which makes it very inconvenient for picnics and for families with kids. There is always that one kid who forgot to go and it makes it very awkward for everyone.

The amount of birds in the park is remarkable. Go earlier in the morning and take binoculars. The Red Cockaded Woodpecker (on the endangered species list) lives in the forest but you have to be quiet and know where to look. Great place to go spend the morning for a walk.

Trees, trees, shade! There is a free small parking area. I saw people jogging, and walking the unpaved trails. You can still hear the roar of the nearby freeway, but youll probably tune it out as you begin to make your way through the trails. This is a beautiful place.

I have so many memories of this place and all are good but it just made me sad to see so much trash and confetti. Come on guys lets not be such trashy humans do you really need to have small pieces of plastic that wildlife can eat and potentially die in your photos. Just have the photographer edit it. Otherwise loved walking with my dad and new rescue pup on trails that we have taken all of our past doggies on.

So much to say about this place, it has several locations to jump off in and enjoy this Texas forest gem! There is a trail on the North side of 1488 that is cut along a secluded creek with a really awesome suspension bridge to that crosses over.

If you’re looking for an easy hike right in town, this is the place for you.The trails are VERY flat here and consist of packed sand. It’s so smooth and flat here, you could probably push a baby stroller through here. ;-) The paths average 6 to 8 feet in width. Not tree roots crossing the trails, or stumps, or logs blocking the trails.I didn’t see a single piece of trash or any dog poop on the trails. But they allow horses on these trails, so there is some manure – just a little bit though. It gets pretty quiet on the trails, even though its in the middle of town. Most of the trails are laid out in a grid format, kind of like city streets are laid out. Signage is abundant and trails are clearly marked. I can’t imagine how someone could possibly get lost out here.I was able to get a 7.4 mile hike, even though I didn’t hit all the trails. I’d estimate there’s a total of 10 miles of trails out here. The most elevation change I was able to get was 33 feet over a stretch of one mile, so as I said – very flat! There’s also a nice little pond at the trailhead, and parking for about two dozen cars.

The walking trails are well maintained, although some of the trails that run from east to west have poor drainage, so plan on just taking North South trails if its rained recently. The East entrance is generally quieter.

Don’t be surprised when your vehicle’s windows get smashed and your stuff gets stolen. Apparently this is a hotspot area for theft. I used to go here all the time, without problems. Now they have signs posted to not leave any valuables in the car. So if you enjoy replacing your windows, this is the spot for you.

1-29-2017 A huge place to explore. Lots of equestrian/ bike trails and there are lots of hiking trails tucked away for the woodies feeling. We heard one of the protected woodpeckers that take up residence in the park but couldnt manage to see it. Even though there was a lot of people there, the place is so huge that its not crowded. A great place for dog walking as well... 11-17-2018 Dont put this location into your GPS, it will dump you in a neighborhood dead end street with no parking. Instead use the trailhead locations for directions to the 2 parking lots. West parking lot has a Porto potty. No trashcans, so pack out what you bring in.

This is a huge park! Our family really enjoyed walking the trails and enjoying the wildlife and scenery at this park. There are plenty of places to sit with lots of benches and several stadium type seating available. There are several ponds that are great for fishing. When we walked up to the edge of one of the ponds, several perch swam up to us! It was awesome! It was a great wildlife experience right in the middle of the city! Loved it!

On the main road highway 1488 North of Houston Texas. A large wilderness park with rough trails. Parking areas and a ranger station. I have been here before and will come back again. Its a nice area to be in the woods. Its very close to town. Only one road goes through it and only a few parking places. If youre lucky to be in the area stop by and check it out. The trees are very large. There is wildlife in the forest. Hogs eagles Hawks and other small wildlife. If you like my reviews please give me a thumbs up. The trails through here are not maintained. They may be rough in wet weather.

So i went here with my girlfriend to go bike riding. There are good trails for just about anything. We made a bad choice and left our phones in the truck. Needless to say we had a hard time finding our way back to the entrance we parked at. It got really dark, but we finally found 1488 and biked our way on the road to get back. We wont be leaving our gps again lol, but this is still our favorite park. Theres a small pond and there are 2 entrances to the park about a mile apart.

I’ve been going to this place since 2008. I love this place for the adventure and nature. I’ve bicycled over snakes and ran away from Sasquatch.I wish there was less construction next to it, over the years, but it hasn’t ruined the experience of the place.I encourage if you live next to it: take a visit. If you have children, beware of the mosquitos and snakes.“The mountains are calling, and I must go.” John Muir
