We loved our one night stay here and were sad to have to leave so soon, but we will be back for sure. The sites were great (raptor Glen Loop)! It seemed like there was so much to do at the park on top of all the fun activities a short drive from the site. It has everything we look for in a campground! Great location, good views, plentiful activities, and friendly people.

This park is highly underrated it has many trails including dog trails horse trails and it has an archery range as well as its camping area. Great place for short or long hikes. Good views and well maintained. Its rather expensive to visit but they do offer various discounts. They also have RV spaces and horse trails. Every August they allow military and veteran families in for FREE. Im thinking about paying for a yearly pass. It really reduces the cost a lot.

Well maintained, and well appointed, but definitely an urban state park. The adjacent city is on full display at most times. The landscape around the camper/rv sites are a little barren. It can be extraordinarily windy at times. Tent camping as others have mentioned might be unexpectedly very challenging. Campfires can also be a challenge, depending on the wind. Random showers are common in the summer, and dotted our 3 night stay. A good stop if you want full hookups, but we might have skipped it otherwise.

Really well maintained facility. Hiking trails are paved with crushed rock. Rv pads are level concrete slabs. Staff I met were friendly and genuine. Its cool to have NORAD in the hollowed out mountain adjacent to the park but it does bristle with communication towers. 180 degrees from Cheyenne mountain is a view of the city, not stellar. Grounds and park are fantastic!

The campgrounds are immaculate. Clean bathrooms. Coin-operated showers are a bit annoying, but theyre pretty standard for areas with water restrictions. Campsites are really nice, and its really fun to hike the trails in joining the campsite right before dusk. Lots of deer hang around! Bear lockers are a great place to park your food.... they arent ant proof, of course, so be sure to bring Ziplocs and seal your food up if you store it in there. This Campground is only minutes away from a grocery store and plenty of attractions in the Colorado Springs area. If you are looking for a free nearby hiking Adventure, check it out the trails by Helen Hunt Falls. I recommend Seven Bridges. Its also fun to drive the unmaintained road through the old railroad tunnels. In the summer, bring water shoes and hike through the river! Bring flavored drink mix packets to Manitou Springs and make your own soda from naturally occurring carbonated water. The only really bad thing about this campsite is that the nearby Air Force Academy plays a really loud wake-up call over loudspeakers at 6:30 in the morning and 10 at night. If you put your kids to bed at 9 p.m., they might be woken up at 10 p.m. when it plays loudly. Or, if you had hoped to sleep in a little bit, you are probably going to be woke up at 6:30 in the morning. Now, if you wake up with the sun anyway when youre camping, its no big deal.

We had an excellent stay. The park was spacious and serene. Great RV setup with wide paved spots and well-kept areas for grilling, tent camping and hanging out near the RV. Kids loved the playground. Easily one of the nicest laundry facilities we’ve used. Walking trails were enjoyable. Groundhogs greeted us each time we pulled into the park. We did hear Taps and Revele (as we’d hoped) from the nearby military base. We had easy access to Colo Springs and convenient stores and restaurants not too far from the entrance. One more comment...about the park staff. They were incredibly helpful! They were resourceful and figured out a way to let us (late planners) use the same site for our entire stay. Had a solution for everything we needed. Very impressed by, and grateful for, those folks.

Such a peaceful and relaxing State Park. The main park trails range form easy to moderately challenging while not being extreme for the average day hiker. The views of Cheyenne Mountain are always front and center so you never forget how beautiful the place is. The walk in tent sites are well maintained and very clean. Unfortunately they are very close together. The particular site we were at had about two feet of thin brush between the site behind us...which was unfortunately stuffed over-capacity with very rude teenagers. There views and trails are amazing at this park. If your only visiting to enjoy the trails they have many to choose from but if you are bringing your dogs you will be limited on trails available. The reason for 2 stars is the camping side of things. They are overpriced for a state park and have other fees on top of the camping. You pay for camping, we were primitive camping and cost $56 for two nights. To access the park is an additional $8 per vehicle, per day, this fee is not included in your cost for camping. They had one shower in the for site area we stayed in and it cost you $.25 per minute with a 4 minute minimum, they did not have a chance machine at that site. Im sure for the money you can find much better options with more amenities.

This is a beautiful park, with trails for all abilities. We decided to stop for a few hours on a road trip and it was a perfect choice. It is not too far off the highway. It is easy to get to and there is ample information. The trails are very well marked. We did a five mile hike and want to return to do the more challenging hikes, which can be 14+ miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 4000 feet. This is not a 14er, so that is unusual. If you have a day, or just a few hours, check out Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Bring a hat and sunblock, and lots of water. This can be a very hot, dry place. Well worth it!

This is a beautiful state park, and Id highly recommend staying here with an RV or trailer. First, the few negatives - You can look down upon the town and military base in the distance, so it is not 100% remote, and there are few trees around the sites themselves. However, the trail system is great for hiking or running, and the facilities are very new. There are tons of full-hookup 50amp sites, and the water is excellent - there was even a second spigot for putting out fires and/or filling water bottles! The roads are all paved, and the trip to the highway is only a few minutes. Lastly, you can see two of the NORAD entrances at night, just up the mountain, and you get to hear the base play Taps every evening and Reveille every morning - pretty cool, along with seeing helicopters and drones occasionally flying over...

There are even a few streams at some times of the year.Dogs are now allowed on a few, select trails - not sure how I feel about this - but nice to know the park is making an effort to accommodate all types of users. Loved this place, so pretty and clean!!! The restrooms were spotless the entire weekend we were there. I was so surprised because the campground was completely full! We were at sites 30 and 31 and they were down from the restrooms but still close enough where you could quickly get to them. I did not like that we had to park the cars up the hill away from our sites because it was really hard lugging everything up and down, those steps look easy but after the 100th time, they suck big time!We took the kids and they kept really busy playing. No places to really run around for them but they had a great time regardless. One problem was there was no shade! So I can imagine summer gets super hot. The picnic sites were a drive/hike away so not very close, but the walking paths were nice and took you out of the camp. Easy to follow directions and maps everywhere.Ft Carson is down the mountain and be prepared to get a wake up call at 6 am with music playing and a lights out call at 10 pm. We thought it was the campground playing it but figured it out to be Ft Carson as it was quite loud and patriotic, still nice. But you cant sleep in because of it :(The camp sites are great. One picnic bench, a bear safe box to store your food, containers etc, big fire pit and a nice clean pad to pitch a tent. We had a 4 person tent and our friends a 6 person and they both fit great. The sites are easy to find and close to others but you cant see anyone from your own site which was nice but you can hear them and at night that was not the best.Staff was really nice and helpful when we were lost :)Saw deer in the evening and at night, there were lizards and bunnies. Not much else was seen. Heard birds all night though. They had good restrooms and showers up the hill and close by and when went for a walk later, we found a little play park for kids. Lots of RV parking too. Costs $7 to get into the park and then $20 to rent a site which you should do ahead of time but its nonrefundable. Ill definitely go back but not in the summer. They also have an archery range but we were told we had to book it in advance.
