As an artist, I think this is a droll little spot for viewers to pop into during the Colorado Springs Art Walk, but if a fellow artist were to ask my opinion of the experience I had as an creator, I would say some mediocre exposure at an underground hole-in-the-wall gallery isnt worth the headache of dealing with incompetent management and youre better off displaying work somewhere the people know what theyre doing. I was invited to participate in a show, and then was strung along through the worst example of miscommunication I have ever experienced in the professional world. It was never confirmed that I would be in the show until two weeks prior, and even then it was only because a friend had seen my name on a flyer, leaving me very little time to prepare my work and creating a tremendously stressful situation for me. I was fortunate, due to the support of individual patrons, to sell several pieces, but when I went to pick up my art, my money was not ready. The gallery informed me that it would take an unspecified amount of time to get my check in and that THEY would contact ME.Months passed of me waiting, fully trusting that I would be told when my check arrived. When I finally contacted them again, it took days before the curator I had been dealing with emailed me back and informed me that he had left the gallery and knew nothing about my money. He was kind enough to direct me to the gallery manager.Despite my emailing him several times, he took two weeks to get back to me, with an abraisively rude, unprofessional--dare I say snotty?--email, informing me that it was my fault for not knowing my money had come in, that the gallery curator had quit, that the gallery had been closed due to the holidays--none of this information was discoverable online as he implied--and to say the least, was not even remotely gracious or understanding of my individual situation. If youre an artist, do yourself a favor--find somewhere with more foot traffic, more accessibility, and better management to hang your work. If youre a viewer, I wouldnt buy a piece here--the artist may not ever get that money.

SUCH a cool space! I would prefer clearer instructions to get there, perhaps not through the tattoo studio. But otherwise a very cool place.

The Gallery Below is a gorgeous space! They sure know how to appeal to all the senses! Between the incredible artists they showcase monthly, fantastic musicians on First Fridays, delicious food trucks every Friday, and the multitude of events and classes they host throughout the month, I have found my happy place!
