Novice to average golfer came to enjoy a round of golf with my family. The course pro harassed us for our pace of play, but we were not playing any slower than the single person in front of us. It really killed the experience. The golf pro is rude (if you dont like your job dont come to work)... will not be back rather pay less and at a great course at the phillip event center .. the staff will make you feel very comfortable and ensure you enjoy your experience...wont be back ...very disappointing for being the A&M golf course.

I always enjoy playing this course. The greens, fairways and tee boxes are usually in great shape. The pro shop was not renovated when the course was so it is lacking in many areas. The main reason for my post is the cost to play now. If you don’t book a time under a Golf Now hot deal you will pay $62 on the weekend with a cart. It just increased by $4 due to only one person riding in a cart due to COVID. To me, this is way to high considering that I can drive to Huntsville and pay $22 less. With gas it is still cheaper. If I want to stay in town I can play another course for about $20 cheaper. I can also travel to the Houston area and play courses that are much cheaper.July 12, 2020I wanted to respond back on the owner’s response. I understand the economics of supply and demand. However when asked why the price had gone up it had nothing to do with the ‘dynamic pricing models’ referenced. The reason given was single riders in carts. There were single riders in carts prior to COVID that didn’t warrant an increase in fees.I will continue to play the course but just not as often as I had (1 to 2 times per week) when there are many other opportunities out there to play at a much cheaper price with the same quality course. I hope you will revisit your current pricing model.

I am a student at A&M and have been going here for years. It is a nice course and affordable for students to go walk 9 holes or practice. However, I go to play on a Sunday (not too crowded because of the heat) and all of a sudden I am not allowed to walk on the week ends which I have done plenty of times before. I ask why and get a dry and unconvincing new regulations excuse.Getting turned away from a round of golf on a non-busy day for wanting to walk simply seems wrong and greedy.

Course is great, and greens are well maintained. However, the course pro is ruining the place. Countless times he has pestered us on the course when we are just trying to enjoy a round of golf. If youre looking to actually enjoy a round, The City Course at The Phillips Event Center (Bryan) is the way too go, much more relaxed and better rates.

For a campus course, you would think that they would be more laid back. I noticed another review about the course pro and couldnt agree more. He constantly drives around the course not playing and nagging players about style of play, cart parking, and golf attire. Ive played here many times and he has complained about someone in our foursome more than half the time, even though they were following the course rules. Hope they can solve this problem because its a beautiful course and so convenient.

One of the best public courses in Texas! Definitely THE best course for your money.Well manicured, greens are phenomenal, course layout is clever and interesting.Ive played all over the country at some of the top ranked and most famous courses we have in the U.S. This course is top 3 in my book!

My buddies and I played this course for the first time this past weekend. Fairways were in excellent shape and the greens had recently been aerated so they were a bit bumpy and sandy. Otherwise they were in good shape. Some sand traps were empty and labeled ground under repair. The layout is fairly forgiving, just dont hit into the rough or you may never find your ball. Also it was a very hot day and there arent many trees to seek shelter from the sun. All in all, I recommend the course and hope to play it again.

Took a lesson from John Saffle here. He knows a lot of things about the sport but seemed uninterested in teaching. Really wish I could have gotten more out of the lesson, which itself wasnt cheap. I wont be returning, going to try elsewhere for someone who actually wants to teach. I understand that he has other responsibilities at the course; but if someone is paying you for your time, it goes without saying, they should have your full attention.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Heavy rains 24 hours before playing but grounds crew was hard at work to recondition the course. Still very playable. Fairways, greens and tee boxes are exceptional. Nice design with deception around the hugh greens. Bunkers were too wet to play but would be very challenging under normal conditions. Overall a great course that I would highly recommend. Well worth the fee.

Pretty solid course. I played here a few times during school and lemme tell you, there is a ton of sand and roads you have to avoid so it is a little challenging. I would definitely try it out if youre in the area and are a fan of the sport.

A good course. Some issues. I felt the $55.00 green fee to really be steep considering that public course all over the Houston area generally run from $30 to $40 for seniors. No veterans discount. Maybe it was me but I felt there was nothing about the course to make me want to return. For example, we had a group of about 20 golfers. That is gross revenue of $1100. I would have expected a free cup of coffee or one soda. I had to buy a $3 cup of coffee. I figured I drove about 90 miles and yet there was no external marketing effort to get me to return. But I did like the course. It is very well laid out and does not have too many hazards to drive one crazy finding a ball or watching a ball fly into water (some water but not much). I would suggest you get rid of the Buffalo Grass which is in many place and some of our guys wasted time looking for balls in that stuff. Your turf fairways and greens are super good shape. We all can hope that the rains will not go totally away as they did last summer for a 2 month stretch so you all can keep it in such great condition.

Decent course but drainage needs to be added as fairways were way too soft for this caliber of course. Nothing worse than a big drive just to plug in the middle of the fairways.

The course itself is good, not great. However, most importantly, the cost to play the course as a student is pretty outrageous. You cannot expect students who only get to play maybe a few times a semester to pay that rate. If they wish to make the course one that people enjoy right away, they need to lower the twilight and regular fees for students, as well as start some weekly scrambles or student tournaments to encourage play.

I have played them all - sans unaffordable Miramount - and impressed as I am with Pebble Creek CC ($$$$ members only), this is my top pick for best of the Brazos Valley and counties surrounding it.Grass everywhere, the trouble lies in mostly sand, then water then trees - I find refreshing and more fun. Conditions now rival the competitions reputations past & present. Some of the more reasonable memberships include all the range balls you can eat, tees, carts, tee times + extras. Top flight Rangers (Marshalls) and speed of play varies by day-o-week, a pace for everyone.New management is proactive daily in improvements and new services amenities coming soon. Staff is top drawer, equal/better to the tradition here forever.

Good course and an even better service. The students who work the reception are all very friendly and eager to help. For the driving range you have an option of a medium bucket with 40 balls or a large with 80 balls. You can also get loaner clubs for the driving range. Youll have to deposit your A&M ID for that.

Played 11/17/18, all went well. Golf course was wet but that was not unexpected from all the recent rain. Not a fan of tee time starts on 1 & 10, was told that is unique to Gameday weekends. Saturday morning the green fee was reasonable, fifty-ish dollars. BTW Old Ags no more Former Student discount. The greens rolled good, couple of traps were not in good shape but KNOW this I will come back. Next comment is not a critique of the golf course but of the University. I was asked for another $40 to leave my car in the parking lot past a certain time because it is Gameday. Was told the University charges them $20 so they charge $20 on top. Good thing I didnt want to play 36. A goofy arrangement, the moral of the story maybe to avoid on football Gamedays. I look forward to playing again.

One of the best public golf course I played in Austin and College Station in terms of price and the course condition, especially when your are a student of Texas A&M U and walk. There are almost 100 bunkers in the course. I play well if I can keep my ball out of those annoying bunkers-.- The other one I may suggest Roy Kizer and Jimmy Clay in Austin, but I havent played there for a while.

Played for the first time today at the campus course, loved the layout and thought the greens were in exceptional shape. really looking forward to playing this course when it dries up and plays a little faster. The reason for the low amount of stars is that the overall experience of playing this course was deteriorated by two things, the first being the heaps of trash and miscellaneous items littered throughout various parts of the course. The second is the price, the discount for students is a great idea but i believe it is not the best they can do considering most of their business derives from students and faculty of the university, 8.50 for a large bucket of balls is also border line outrageous. I was disappointed also when I was told that nine holes are only offered in the twilight variety because of a few instances where individuals did not pay for excess holes, previous to being told this I had also been told the driving range was closed for the day because of weather conditions, which confused me because the range uses matts, to my surprise following my round three other golfers were using the range. I believe this course lacks consistency in terms of presentation and reliability in terms of service, the course itself though is a must play because of its design and green conditions.

The greens are always in good shape. But I wont play on weekends because they WONT LET YOU WALK!!! Walking is a part of the game. To force people into carts on the weekend is shameful and wrong.Ok Ive edited this to 1 star. Mainly because they dont stick to their posted hours. They are supposed to open daily at 7:30 which is late for a golf course. I just came by today to hit some balls at 8:30 and they are closed and nobody is here. Not even a answering machine message or anything. Its highly obvious this course is strictly here to waste campus space and funding.

They are over priced, by a lot.I walked up at one day at 6:49 and the lady said Oh sorry, we close down 30 mins before sunset and today thats at 7:20 First off, I still had one minute, but thats not the point. I drove all the way out there and was turned down because the lady working inside closed the proshop early. All I wanted were some range balls. Also 39$ for a twilight round at a below average golf course is OUTRAGEOUS. Ive played just about ALL of the nicest courses around the Central Texas area and worked at one too. There are plenty of courses that are cheaper and better than this one.Golf should never be that expensive at a course like that, ESPECIALLY one in a collage town. All municiple golf courses around Austin are comparable in condition and skill level to this one, the only differance is the price. Theres a 15 to 20 dollar difference in costs.
