I did not even know this little Jem was tucked away in the heart of down town. I love museum and this multi level building has something for everyone. Wither you are into modern art, paintings, history or trains, yup I said trains, this is the place to check out. I love that is has its own free small parking and we did not even know when we went that every second Saturday of the month admission is free. Some art may not be suited for everyone, however the have a couple of great places inside for kids to have hands on fun including a bubble cave.

It is a very good place for family with kids.I took my 4 years old son to here and he enjoyed his time in playing Lego and bubbles. The second Saturday of each month is free to public and at weekend we dont need to worry about parking space. The staff are very nice.I appreciated their patience to us.I purchased the solo membership with only 25 dollars a year so we can visit there without admission fee every time .I am glad that I found this wonderful place in downtown.

It was a rainy afternoon around 3.30 pm. Our aim was to come by to look for postcards for me to send to my friend back home. Weve been to many tourist places, antique shops including the post office but theyve stopped carrying postcards since Oct 2018. We were so glad to find that they have them in stock! Due to the timing, we didnt have a chance to tour the museum since it was close to closing hour. We will be back soon!!

Judging from the reviews online, I wasnt exactly sure of what we were getting ourselves into by going to this place, but we decided to check it out anyway. This museum is inside the old post office and features tons of artifacts from Clarksvilles early days. Inside the museum, you can see videos, photos, and knick-knacks from Clarksvilles history. The lower level is all for kids and kids at heart! Theres a puppet show area, building blocks, Lincoln logs, and the coolest bubble exhibit ever! They also have an extensive model train set up where you can push a button and turn on the lights in the shops or make the airplanes propellers spin. On certain days and times, you can also see them run the trains!

What a great museum! There is literally something for all ages. It is quite large in comparison of the outside. My personal favorite was the train exhibit ️ the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. One exhibit that sticks out in my mind was a picture from the major flood they had, its a picture from College St (I think) and there is a building that is half submerged in water. Today that building holds a very tasty cheesecake shop. Very cool! The admission is very inexpensive and parking can be limited but is free if your able to get into their lot. I highly recommend the Customs House!!

I might be biased because I grew up going here but it is educational and fun for all ages. I will say it is more interesting if you read the descriptions, especially on the artwork. The Custom House Museum is one of the shining stars of Clarksville. Wrapped in a history of its own as the previous home of our post office. The old copper roof is a testament to a by gone era but the modern additions smoothly transition on the inside as you are taken on a journey through the history of Clarksville and the Middle Tennessee area. With a beautiful collection of carefully curated history and a revolving selection of majestic art peices, you would think that they would stop there; however they take the museum that extra mile with a dedicated model train room and childrens activity center. Custom House delivers big on a small buck. Add to that the chance to find interesting art peices, fun custom jewelry, and cute creative toys for children and the great location near to some of Clarksvilles many delicious Restaurants and you have a day trip for the whole family. Who knows, you might like it so much you need to buy a pass.

Super fun place to stop at if you have toddlers that need to GET OUT OF THE CAR, due to a road trip! This place was so much fun for our 13mo old and the train people were getting the scenes ready for Christmas and they went ahead and tested the trains for our son! He loved it! Such a great experience and well definitely come back. Only reason I didnt do 5 stars was because of no cafeteria or a pop up of some kind. But that did lead us to the restaurant down the street that was amazing!

Sunday afternoons are best for the kids because the train engineers are there to show off the model trains. Adults can enjoy the art exhibits, historic artifacts, and rich Clarksville history. Purchasing a membership is also a great value because the exhibits change throughout the year, so there’s always something new to learn and discover.

Not great compared to other museums, but I guess you cannot fault the museum if the town it represents has contributed very little to history. The childrens play area is very obviously stocked with local thrift store toys, and the grocery store is sure to reinforce negative stereotypes for little girls. Half of the friction activities were broken with no sign of being repaired in the near future. By far the most impressive attraction was the gift store, perhaps they should drop the entire exhibit dedicated to has-been athletes that no-one outside of the city has heard of and expand the selection of kids toys, it would definitely be a better use of space rather than a race car once driven by a nobody.

The museum was very enjoyable. I love that exhibits rotate out so often to keep the context fresh. I felt there was a bit missing from some of the exhibits - some more explanation of the material, more background information, etc. for example, in the sports displays, there is a quote on the wall from a baseball player and a newspaper that presumably contains interesting information, but there is nothing to tell who said the quote, or what youre supposed to be looking for in the newspaper. For locals who have been here for a while, the information might be understood, but for someone who moved here less than a month ago, I was a bit lost.I love the Explorer area but would love to see it ramped up a bit and maybe the play grocery restocked with some more durable items. Painted wood blocks make great food packages. The membership is a fantastic value and I gladly purchased one for myself since I see myself going back often for the rotating exhibits, and my granddaughter can enjoy the Explorer area.

We have lived here 3 years and didnt know this place existed. Looking for things to do on TripAdvisor, we quickly found the museum as one of the higher rated indoor family activities. We love all types of museums so it was a no brainer. The military membership was only $10 more than the entry fee for one day, so we went ahead and bought the membership (only $30 for the family). So glad we did because we really enjoyed it.The artists featured were incredibly talented. Some of these artists really deserve to be shown in more than just a local, small town museum. The facility was very clean, quiet and organized. The only issue was that we could not locate the Family Art Studio as it was shown on the paper map we were given and we had walked through the entire place with our eyes open. The kids were tired so we ended up not asking the staff where it was for the Rainbow Science drop-in activity. It obviously wasnt a huge deal breaker though. The cafe was being used for a birthday party so we did not get to check it out and arent sure of the daily hours and offerings. The train room was very cute but I even being the only family in there, I did start feeling a little claustrophobic because of the narrow walkway between the wall and the massive display. Also not a deal breaker and I just moved on to the next room. Some of the areas could do with better ventilation/fans as they were a bit stuffy but even so, there were no bad smells. Some of the rooms smelled like sweet tobacco ropes, which was actually quite enjoyable as was learning the history of tobacco in this area.My kids are 9 and 14 and still had fun in the bubble room. The whole body bubble didnt work for us and the rope was sticky and kinda made me wanna bleach my hands after touching it, yuck. They do offer hand sanitizer in the entry to that room, thank goodness. My husband and my 9 year old had fun pretending to play shop and it was hilarious to watch them play pretend at their ages.Lastly, the staff was so nice. I cant remember their names, but they were full of smiles and warm welcomes. The gift shop girl was very friendly and really seemed to love her job and thats always a plus.Obviously we will be back when they change up the displays and will be telling others about this hidden gem downtown. Also, my goodness, the outside of one of the buildings is gorgeous.

All of the exhibits were readily available and the place was immaculate.
