Excellent trail for a first hike. Challenging, but not overbearing. There are plenty of elevation changes and places to rest. And once you get to the top the views are stunning and totally worth it.

Good Sunday morning hike. Took us about 3 hours out and back from the car park on mills. There’s no water on the trail to potato mountain, so come prepared. Nov 2020 it is a mask zone (covid) and most folks are taking precautions. There was a ranger checking to see if people were abiding the rules ($100 fine if you’re not wearing a mask). Plenty of shade on the trail, terrain very easy too. Enjoy!

First time came for a hike in this area and we couldn’t made it to the top because we started the hike too late in the afternoon and it was way too hot to the point I felt dizziness. Second time here and we made it to the top and the view was amazing. The only issue was there were so many flies on the top maybe because of the weird weather that we experienced recently. Will come back hike to this place next time.

Solid hiking trail especially if youre looking for something less crowded than the Claremont Loop. Parking is free but can get filled up pretty quickly if you dont get there early enough. The trail itself is shaded at the beginning and has a gradual incline. Once you reach the steeper incline, there is no shade at all so definitely recommend doing this in cooler months or early morning during the warmer months. It definitely has good incline to work your muscles out. The view is great at the top as well.

Great hike for exercise and city view. Bring a potato to leave your mark. Only one turn to the top so once youve been youll know the way. Im a slow hiker so it took me one hour and twenty minutes to go up the 2.5 miles.

Its as much of a challenge as you make it. If its easier speed up or throw on a backpack. Great trail and awesome view.

Short and easy hike even if you hike up from west. The road is wide and big. If you wanna some challenge, you can go up from east side. You will feel like doing a real hiking. But it’s short so don’t worry about it too much when you stuck. But it’s steep and slippery near the top. From here you can see the head of mt baldy. Maybe in winter it will look awesome!

Review №12

Beautiful views from top of the mountain. The trail is 4 miles round-trip from Mt Baldy Rd gate and over 800 feet of elevation gain on the way up. Once you make it to the top of the mountain, the view is amazing. Definitely worth the effort.

This is a great trial if you want a really good workout as you have about two and a half miles straight uphill but the views along the way make it all worthwhile. Its a leisurely 2 to 3 hour hike round trip.Very dog friendly and lots of parking right by the entrance about 30 cars.

The city of Claremont put no parking signs at the trail head. One star for the communist city of Claremont. Easy to park up past the Forrest boundary and walk down to the trail though. Some jerk also spray painted the entire water tank at the top with stupid graffiti. Still a great view.

Definitely a must go hike but make sure you bring some kind of walking stick when youre going unless youre already have hookups like a goat. Its mostly uphill and if you are going to take this hike be prepared to be challenged (for beginners). Pick up your trash guys. Also pick up after your dogs.

A bit more intermediate but this hike is a must. First two thirds or so are heavily shaded, and theres a swing and a small rock climbing area (which we were too chicken to see all the way through, not gonna lie). Last third is pretty steep and unforgiving on a hot day, but the enormous view at the end makes it all worth it, and you feel mad accomplished. And bring a potato, if youre into that sort of thing (peeps leave potatoes, no idea where that started but cool, roll widdit).

Challenging but worth it, went through Claremont loop hit Potato mountain was about 11 mis round trip. The view was very nice and even though I was beat afterwards it was worth it. There are a lot of inclines so keep that in mind. I would rate it a 7/10 in terms of difficulty , I also went straight up the mountain vs the steady incline around it..

First real hike for me. We took the fire road to the top. The hike was described as beginner advanced, definitely intermediate difficulty. The views at the top are great, very panoramic. It was pretty clear the day we went. You could see down town LA and Catalina island from the top. The fire road route is about 4.8 miles round trip. There are 2 shortcuts that ramp up the difficulty but shorten the distance.

I love this hike. Going to Potato Mountain via East Face was amazing. I loved the inclined gaining 1300+ ft of elevation was superb. Via East Face, the trail was very steep, slippery and that made it so HARD to hike. I recommend this trail for the experience hiker. Once we reached to the top of Potato Mountain then we took Evey Canyon MTWY to go down. So, we did atleast 3.5 miles for this hike. What I like about taking the East Face going up was the scenery. The sunrise, the view of the city were very astonishing. View was just breathing. Definitely going back again.

Mountain lion spotted in the area so be aware.. its dropping are along the trail so be vigilant and prepared!. Its is a steady uphill hike to the top of potato mountain. Definitely not for beginners unless your are ready for a challenge. Bring plenty of water and bug spray! Everyone along this trail are very friendly and nice work out and a beautiful view at the top! You can even see LA for the view point If theres not too much smog people bring their own potatoes from home and leave them at the top of the mountain. Not sure why but keeps it interesting I guess. :) not too much parking at the entrance though.

Dont Litter.Solid hike. There are two paths you can take. One is shorter but way more challenging. When you start the trail and get past the first steep incline, there is a trail on the left that isnt really hidden but if your not paying attention, you can miss it. This trail is a straight shot to the top. Its more difficult in that its slippery and has no shade. The view is amazing, though. If you take the normal trail, at the top before it splits into two roads (on leading to potato mountain) and the other leading down another road, the road leading down connects to the claremont loop. Its a fun and quiet hike. Lots of trees.

Great hike, good for beginners. Gentle at first but it can be a little seep for some at the last 10%. Nice way to start your day, you feel great and the view is amazing. From the start of Cajon Pass to Big Bear, across the whole I.E., all the way out to L.A. and even Catalina Ive heard. Not to mention your standing on the footsteps of Mt. San Antonio. Honestly no picture can do this justice. You just have to see it for yourself.

Great way to take a break from City Life. Parking tends to be decent but, can fill up quickly. There are 2 routes you can take: the long walk (easier and under 1 and a half, and the short cut (kinda steep and usually under 30mins). You may take less or more time. Great with friends or for some alone time. Most wildlife keeps its distance but, its always a good idea to stay allert.
