Went on a Saturday evening. Not too busy at all. Placed our order and sat outside. Was told our food would be brought out in 10-15 minutes. After about 40 minutes had passed I went inside to check on the food. Was told I never gave my credit card for payment - I had. Oh, there you are. says the guy behind the bar after double checking the computer. Hands me my receipt to sign and leave a tip. I say I havent even received my food yet and weve been waiting outside this entire time. The food was made as a carryout order by mistake and was sitting in a brown paper bag. No apologies from the bartender. He ignored me for about 5 minutes as I sat trying to get his attention. Im usually easy going but the service here is actually terrible. From the sounds of the other reviews this is just par for the course at the Comet.

One of the things I miss most about San Diego is a real Cali Burrito, and its proved nearly impossible to find anything close in Cincinnati. The burritos at The Comet definitely satisfy the craving. Apparently the owner is from San Diego, so Im not surprised! Excellent food and very comfortable atmosphere!

One of my favorite bars in Cincinnati. Great food. The queso with chicken and medium salsa has been my go to for years but I honestly haven’t tried anything I haven’t loved. The staff is great and they always have a wide variety of live music and the jukebox is one of the best in Cincinnati.

We were thrilled to see a vegetarian option in the menu and intrigued with the idea of jerked tofu. It was amazing. As in we had it 3 different ways and I was too full to eat anything but I wanted to have it again. The kitchen told me they make their own marinade. Truly amazing. You order at the bar - get their homemade ginger with a shot of whiskey - to sip in while waiting for your food. The bar gives you a slip that you take to the kitchen window. They given you a table marker and they will deliver your food when it is ready. They have a great back porch and an interesting bathroom configuration. Seriously, get the jerked tofu tacos with the pickled onions. Their jalepenos are fresh sliced by the way.

I picked up dinner for us on 6/18/2004. It really is a very unique place. For all intents and purposes, its a bar. But if you are in the know, you are aware of the fact that there is a small kitchen in the back, accessible only through a window. You order and pay up front, then take your receipt to the cooks counter in the back. Im no expert on bars, so I cant really rate this one.As far as the food goes, pretty much all they have are burritos. They do have several vegetarian options: The Comet, a black bean, a pinto bean, a mixed bean, and a tofu-jerky burrito. I had the tofu-jerky burrito; Debi had the black and tan. They were both very good. I should also note that the burritos are huge. You could easily split one between two people; unless youre absolutely starving, it really is more than one person can eat.The burritos are fairly inexpensive and worth the amount you pay.

This is one of those places Ive heard everyone talk about but havent gone in the 10+ years Ive lived in Cincinnati. I finally crossed off an iconic Cincy location off my to do list! The first thoughts we had as we headed in with a group of about 8 on a Sunday was Im eating Mexican, in a dice bar, listening to Blue Grass. And that kinda sums up the eclecticness of the place and the neighborhood! Its dark which makes it look dingy, but I love me a good dive lookin place. This is perfect. Theres not a ton of seating, but we did snag the nice round booth, unfortunately the table is a little too small for the booth. You place your order at the bar. They have a few taps and a generous supply of liquor. Check their board for both food and drink specials. Theres also about 3 refrigerator cases with canned and bottled beer you can purchase. (Fun fact, Little Kings is normally 2 for $5.) The food is sort of build your own ala carte. You can any meat/tofu, and veggies to orders. Hubby and I got the quesadillas and an order of nachos with queso. And there was plenty of food! The entrees normally.come with chips and your choice of salsa. The mild was definitely flavorful! The medium lacked the flavor but had a slight bit of heat, but not overpowering. The food was delicious and was very generous portions for what you paid for. The live band wasnt overly loud for the smallish space either. They also have a nice patio out back with about 6-8 tables as well if you like dining outside. I wished I had stumbled upon this place sooner! Will definitely be coming back!

Tried this place out while visiting Cincinnati for brunch. Very disappointed at how long it took for everything. Took about 30 min to order, even though there was only about 10 people in front of us. After we ordered, our food finally showed up 45 min later. It looked like the kitchen was working on one order at a time. There wasnt anything special about the food either. The place also smelt bad, too.

Food was alright--folks speak highly of it, but I wasnt impressed, as I eat Mexican cuisine regularly and maybe Im a snob.At any rate--the bathrooms....what? I think you guys can do a little better on that situation. Doorknob would be a nice addition. Also, the PA system kept shocking musicians as they used the microphone, indicating a grounding issue with the power source in the room, with the mixing console, or faulty wiring in the room. Please consider that this actually is a physical danger to musicians and can seriously injur users. BIG problem, please fix this--in fact, you may want to reconsider putting on more live music before this is fixed so you dont hurt anyone.Apart from that, solid place.

We tried this place on a Tuesday night around 7p. We found a place to park across the street with no problem. Upon entering and not being greater, we realized that we could seat ourselves. But just before sitting down we happened to notice a sign saying to place your order at the bar. When I approached the bar, the bar tender immediately asked me what I would like. This gave me the impression that most people are regulars who don’t need to see a menu. But it was my first time.I proceeded to order Rice and Beans (basically, it’s a burrito bowl). I let her know up front that I had a very annoying request - I wanted the rice and beans in one bowl and everything else in a separate bowl. She totally understood and then asked me what all we wanted in our bowl. I took her suggestion and tried the mixed beans (pinto and black) and the chicken (instead of beef). I also ordered guac, salsa, onions, shredded cheese, sour cream and lettuce. The annoying thing about this? The guac, salsa, cheese, sour cream and meat are all extra and you are charged separately. Who on earth would order a burrito and not want this things?? I wish they’d just charge the rate they want and make it flat. Paying for “extras” makes me feel like they’re nickel and dime-ing.After placing our order, she asked if we’d like to open a tab or pay immediately. We left a card with her to open a tab. Then she explained that we’d need to walk our order receipt to the kitchen window which was in the next room.We ended up sitting in the second room because it was entirely empty. And not having any high chairs, I wanted my thirteen month old to be able to exist and not annoy fellow customers. (The first room had a few tables that were full and the patio had a set of steep stairs leading down the hill). There was another family with kids who were playing pool, so this place obviously attracts all ages. Our food probably took about fifteen minutes to come out. And when it did, we saw that they actually put EVERYTHING “on the side”. Lol. One bowl for every topping. We each made our own bowls with what we wanted. Looking back, I wouldn’t bother getting the onion because they’re raw. The chicken is pulled and seasoned, but not very flavorful or juicy. But the salsa of the month was good (roasted garlic salsa). The guac probably isn’t made in house and is meh. But I really appreciated the large portion of sour cream. In fact, the whole thing was a large portion and super share-able. So that’s nice!Once you’re done you pick up after yourself. There’s a place for your empty trays and glasses right next to the kitchen window.I wasn’t really blown away by my experience here. But I’ve heard such great things about they’re brunch? Maybe I’d try it some weekend if I could get there without the kiddo.

Im not one to write reviews especially bad ones, but I felt like this was a must. I visited The Comet Sunday afternoon for dinner and it was fairly empty. I had visited prior that week and it was great. The restaurant doesnt have a wait staff so you have to go to the bar to place your order. The manager was the only one working the bar, his name was John. We ordered a quesadilla and a plain chicken burrito with queso. The exact same order as what we did prior that week. He said that they couldnt do it and we stated how we had had the exact same order a few days prior. He refused and to mitigate the situation we simply asked if we could just buy a bowl of queso and have them put it in the burrito with just chicken in it. He was absurdly loud and rude at this point causing a scene as he said Im not doing it but you can ask the chef. We went and asked the chef and he was nice and said that was totally fine. He brought out our food and there clearly wasnt any queso in the burrito. I went and told the bartender there wasnt any queso put into the burrito and once he adamantly told me the chef said there was I literally tore open the burrito in front of him to prove there was absolutely no queso and he looked at me and said my chefs dont lie. Almost at this point I thought that John Quiñones was going to pop out with a camera from the show What Would You Do?. He was so absurdly adamant that there was queso in the burrito that I almost wanted to ask if he was blind. At this point we didnt even eat. We paid and we left uneaten food sitting on the table.

The Comet was low key. It was full of art college hipsters, that Im certain wouldnt call themselves hipsters, but it was a man bun and beardfest , and girl gauges none the less. I came to see a band play. I love new music. The bartender was nice and made a good drink. You had to ask for a menu from the bar though, then order your food from a window, where they gave you a number, so if you were a timid person, you were not eating because trying to figure out how to get food was hard. I dont want to have to watch other patrons ordering to figure out how to order food. There was no one milling around getting drinks at the tables, or waitresses and it was 9pm on a Friday. The food was surprisingly good. GREAT salsas.Bands were rough. very rough, but the food made it worth it.

The bartender came up and in front of all of my friends said hate to break it to you but you have to pay for your food. That was so rude, and so embarrassing for me. OBVIOUSLY i know that if i order food, i have to pay for it. Im also in the service industry and i understand being annoyed but wow id never talk to a customer like that. The only reason this isnt one star is that after i called him out, he offered to buy my queso which i will not let him do but it was a nice gesture. Just because youre friends with my friends doesnt mean you can berate me in front of them and make me feel like an idiot for walking less than 6 ft away. I probably wont be back.
