Room 1087 - Avoid sending your child to this school if they will be in Kindergarten in this room. Your child will leave the Kindergarten not having advanced. The teacher in room 1087 will try to swoon you in, convince you of things about your child to justify her hollering and blantant mistreatment of them. Before attending this school (in this class), my child never had panic attacks. After a few days, my child cried hysterically and begged not to go and that continue throughout the school year. My child was afraid of the Teacher- the way she yelled, how mean she was to other students, and how she threw things at students. Unfortunately, I listened too late and the damage has been done. Since this experience I have found out that other young children have also been mistreated at the hands of the Teacher in this class. I did raise concerns, but nothing was done and my concerns about the changes I saw in my child were wrote off.

Although I don’t go to this school yet, my experience’s there were outstanding! At open house they were extremely welcoming, and auditions were just the same.

Before college, my younger daughter attended the School of Creative and Performing Arts (grades 4 thru 12)in Cincinnati, Ohio. I recall on one visit to the schools campus, seeing the menagerie of tinted hair, body art, piercings and unique attire. It was impossible to discern the students of wealthy families from those of low income families-- especially when observing student behaviors and interactions. There was an astonishing appreciation for differences; each student seemed to appreciatively embrace race, heritage, religious differences. Having personally witnessed the incredibly wonderful social skills my daughter and her school mates developed, Im not so surprised that so many these kids have grown to become remarkable young adults... in spite of the things we parents did to them during their first 18 years of life. Wow! Imagine how much more they might have become if we adults hadnt taught them our own limitations, biases, and fears.

My kids have both had a chance to perform here. They have a talented and highly experienced staff members that put on full-scale productions every year. SCPA is very involved in the CPS community and reaches out to other schools as well. Many of the instructors come from CCM or the Symphony right across the park. :)

I graduated before the new building. I attended from 4th-12th grades. I was very happy throughout my time there. I was never particularly popular, but I was never picked on. Nor did I have any close friends that were bullied. I hope this is still the case as I feel that is one of the most important factors in choosing a school.Once I got into high school I took advantage of a program at UC and took most of my academic classes there. So I only continued art classes at SCPA. I majored in violin early on and eventually switched to harp. I also studied voice and eventually added Musical Theatre and drama. The best part of the programs was that I had plenty of opportunities to perform. If you have a child that wants an artistic atmosphere, this is the school for them!
