Nice walking trail. $3 to park. Park is open from sunrise to sunset. Considering covid restrictions, this is the only park I have seen in California with the kids playground open. Swings were not tied up. Max capacity was 5 on the equipment 17 in the park area. Was a quiet walk with great views. Sweet little ducks down by where the boats and kayaks launch

A man approached me asking for a ride.... There is no way of getting to this park other than car..he asked how to get out of there...when I saw him his pants where ripped and had a jacket on in the middle of the day... A dog saw him and went ballistic. Then he changed his clothes and approached me and asked me for a ride in Spanish. Its the second time something similar happens in this area( not the park..it was my first time)I was quick to ask another family to wait for me to load my mom and my kids because the park was pretty lonely at that point.I didnt see any staff to tell them what was going on.Other than that its a very cute park .

Wow: I have not been to this place for many a year, over 9 years to be exact. That being said I was really surprised when I took note of all the new housing developments in the area complete with running and cycling trails as well as nearby golfing. I came in off Otay Lakes Road from the north side off the 94 east highway, and followed it around the picturesque hillside and tight curves across the dip in the road where you can see the stream flowing from east to west where it appears it could actually wash across the road if it rained enough; from there you pass the skydiving facility and training center where classes are taught in skydiving. After people meet a certain set of preliminary training they are allowed to jump from an airplane, with a parachute of course. I think your first jump is what is referred to as a tandem jump. If you want to stop in for more info Im sure the staff there will be willing to oblige you. I say that because Ive been there on several occasions myself; and after all, it is on the way to the actual lake which can be seen from the skydiving entrance. Enough said about that, I brought it up because that is the point where the lake comes into greater view. As you negotiate the two-lane road be aware of oncoming traffic because people sometimes get distracted and swerve momentarily into the opposite lane of travel. As you traverse the road look at the beauty on both sides within the valleys and hills and you will see boats and shore fisherman in and around the the lake itself. There will be a sign that says Wueste Rd. ,turn there and follow it until it comes to a traffic signal. At the signal make two consecutive left turns and follow the road past the Olympic Training Center Into the lake entrance where there is ample parking for both your vehicles and your boat trailers. I should mention on the day of March 17,2019 when I was there if one is riding a motorcycle or is any vehicle for that matter,be careful of the potholes that the rain must have generated recently in the asphalt surface. When I got there around 6pm there was plenty of sunshine and the sky appeared blue in most of the surrounding atmosphere outside of a couple of clouds scattered here and there. It happened to be a Sunday and I could see there many families there to enjoy the day around the beautiful lake. It appeared to me as if the beginning of spring was marching in all the subliminal signs that accompany this change of season. I watched as parents gave nurturing and development to their children in a natural environment of blue sky and lake. It made me think about an ongoing study regarding the neuroscience of the mind water connection, and some of its findings in todays world. The people enjoying this day appeared to have been experiencing an inner calm and or happiness about them, if not contemplation as well. I stayed for under an hour and savored the scenic quiet surroundings. Im not sure about the store they have on-site as I did not venture there. My guess is on the days when it not to hot or breezy its a good time to enjoy the place.

If you want to have a nice short hike up a small mountain and have the kids play in the 2 playgrounds they have there, then this is the park for you. 1 playground is for the little ones, the entire area floor is a big sponge so if they fall, theyll bounce! The side, which is fenced off from the little guys, is for kids in elementary up to 6th grade size. But moms and dads can get on the swings too. There is an office and restrooms for the public. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Their is a 1 dollar parking fee for an hour and 3 dollars for the day. 2 sections for birthday parties, but you have to reserve them ahead of time. You can climb up to the top of the mountain which is on my scale of climbing from 1-10, I would rate the difficulty a 3, just a little up hill walk on a trail. The park Ranger is on site and patrols the area in case of snakes or if someone gets injured hes always near the site. The park sits on a sloped hill of grass overlooking the Otay Lake. Below the park if you have a boat, bring it and go fishing. Plenty of parking for boats and trailers. Beautiful scenery as you can see from my photos. The park also is the end of the road, so no through traffic comes by and its nice and quiet up there. People hike up the mountain and others play at the park. Great spot for families trying to get away from the city life for a day. The view from up there is 360 degrees and you can see the Pacific Ocean to the west and Mexico to the South. Otay Lakes Park is a nice quiet park for the whole family. Its Eastlakes hidden Gem.

I love this park. It is so clean and well kept. Its size is deceiving since the grassy area, playground and pavilions are pretty centrally located but once you jump on a path and start your hike, you could wander for hours. The bathrooms were immaculate. the ranger station was full of really neat stuff to see and a couple pets - a rosy boa, and a tarantula. The ranger told me a little bit about them. The staff was super friendly and very nice. I didnt have $3 in cash for parking, and they were able to take my card. The first time I came it was decorated for Halloween, and the next time I came it was all decorated for Christmas. It looks adorable. The views of the lake are beautiful. the access to the open space preserve and awesome hiking & bike trails make this place a true gem.Im hesitant to even write this review because I dont want this place to start getting all crowded!! Right now its quiet and peaceful. Weekdays are great. The weekends usually have parties who have reserved the pavilions, but everyone seems respectful.A+ park!!

Its great that the Otay River valley has been cleaned up and partly turned into a park, and trails are always welcome in an urban area. But the trails here are pretty mundane. Other than a couple of ponds, there are no real sights. Most of the trail routes are through high vegetation, some of which is interesting (see photos), but there isnt much to see or do along the way. Still, if you are looking for a convenient place for an uncrowded walk or bike ride in the South Bay area, this is fine.

We enjoyed our Saturday afternoon here. It must get crowded on weekends. All the shade structures and picnic tables were taken with people preparing for parties. The playground was nice, and our kids enjoyed it. The park is a bit hilly, and there isnt much shade unless you can join with someones party, so bring an umbrella. The bathrooms were decent.
