Relaxed, friendly atmosphere to park your sailboat. Without a boat? Sit outside and enjoy viewing the sailboats, read a book, sit at one of the tables at the club and make friends with those that sail....explore a new world of peaceful sailing. This Club also conducts holiday parties.......very friendly atmosphere. This is the place to be if you want to make some friends

An all volunteer yacht club with great sailboat racing, sailing educational programs and social activities. There are even members whose boats have no sails!

The cheapest place to learn how to sail in Chicago, and believe me I looked. $140, which includes books, materials, all of the classes on a USB drive, gloves, and a pizza party for graduation. Plus theyll set you up with a skipper.

Oct. 10, 2013High Seas adventure at Chicago Corinthian Yacht ClubWow, what an adventure! My experience Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club initiated with the sailing classes in late March/early April. The instructors were animate about safety, terminology, navigation, racing and cruising. The class was interactive between instructors and pupils. Sailing magazines were offered as prizes during Q&A sessions. Skippers and crew assisted the instructors with knot making and other topside commands. In fact, Instructors Jim and Joe gave me excellent advice. I was on the fence about cruising or racing. Both insisted racing would be more stimulating. They were right. I love racing sailboats. Sailing classes ended with a social rush. Class members had to rub elbows with skippers to be invited out. Also, as a graduation present West Marine donated sailing gloves to all class members (at $20/pair).I scored a couple invitations on boats; On Edge, Misty Winds and Rainbow’s End. On Edge participated in the JAM fleet. Early May, we were out in two consecutive gales. I loved it so much that I regularly carry Dramamine. A little seasickness shouldn‘t change ones mind about sailing. Surprisingly, we came in first for the JAM fleet twice. Rainbow’s End has a highly competent skipper and crew. The crew is helpful and welcoming. The Skipper is like your varsity coach. He gives you both praise and punch. That’s a good way to learn.Special thanks to Skipper Bill Luksha. The skipper invited me out to my first three day regatta. His boat, Misty Winds is a Catalina with main, jib and spinnaker. The weather for the regatta was rainy, cold and gusty. Skipper’s ruling for the regatta was to forgo the spinnaker and use the jib. Our competitors attempted spinnakers without success. Misty Winds won the Regatta. This was due to the skill of Bill Luksha and the cooperation of the crew.In summary, Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC) is an excellent choice to learn how to sail. Recommendations to new crew members. Go out sailing as many times as possible. Practice knots. Study Competent Crew. This is a book the CCYC offers for free. Try different boats and try different skippers. Don’t be afraid of being yelled at. Most significantly, Enjoy.Respectfully;Henry Gardner
