It is impossible to see this from shore now because the water is so high. I have swum out to the boiler left from the Silver Spray, and a friend said they found a propeller on another occasion. Its very beautiful out there. The water gets shallower over Morgan Shoal, and there are lots of interesting rock formations. I recommend swimming out on a very calm day because it will be easier to see below the water.

Very cool spot, clean restrooms with murals on the outside. The shoreline is cool; its not a beach, its a bunch of blocks of cement

My favorite place in Chicago. Swim out from the 49th street beach and leave your troubles on the shore as you get lost in the fascinating underwater landscape of the Morgan Shoal. Make an aquatically inclined friend with one of the others who are undoubtedly also swimming, or at least watching the swimmers from the battered concrete beach. Did I mention this is my favorite place on Chicago?

I dont think Google Maps have the coordinates exactly right. We saw it eventually from shore, but had to scan the water for quite a while. Try looking a bit south of the marker. Pretty cool to see if you can - I hope they decide to preserve it somehow.

Swam out from shore on a quiet Sunday morning with two of my four daughters for my birthday. It was wonderful experience!

This shipwreck is just the boiler of a boat that sank about a hundred years ago while taking U of C students on a field trip. The boat struck the rocky shoal offshore, and now the boiler is on top of the shoal, only a few feet below the water. Every now and then you see people standing on top of it.

Stayed at Hotel across the street and interested POI to visit. Only downside is the lack of parking in the area to walk to the shore side to see the structure in a distance. Always like to see these types of history.

A fantastic place for the adventurous! The wreck is very easy to snorkel, and visible from shore. The water is shallow enough to allow long periods of swimming and snorkeling with frequent breaks. The beach is pebbly with large rocks at the water, making for a sometimes rough entry, but the swimming, privacy, and view from the wreck cant be beat!Park at the nearby city lot and take the footbridge over. There is a convenient shore head on the bike path, in decent shape. If youre lucky enough to find the all season tour guide, hes very friendly and will help point out interesting spots.
