Great stop for a short walk (w/dogs) if you need a break from a long drive up/down I-95. Near the village theres a short 5-min walk to an overlook plus a longer out & back trail (behind the visitor center) if you really need to stretch your legs. No restaurant but clean restrooms. Theres also a trail near the entrance that leads to the river (might be unmarked but you can clearly see the parking pull-off). In the summer, the end of the riverfront trail is a little crowded with swimmers.

Loved it!! Please visit! We must do our part to keep these places open. They are doing ALL THEY CAN TO BE SAFE! Students are their main source of income and we all know whats going on today. Take your children today and make that the Math (the timeline), Social Studies (the history), Language Arts (the vocabulary, stories, and leyends), Science (their housing, weapons..) Physical Education (the walk)and Arts and Crafts lesson of the day (so many cool easy to do stuff in the Gift Shop)! So much to see! So much to learn through this live museum!

Absolutely love this place! My daughter and I go here all the time and we learn something new every time! It’s a living historical park that educates visitors of specific time periods of the area, to include John Smith and Pocahontas. You walk through three different settlements where actors donned in time period clothing tell you all about the historical significance of the area, daily life, how to’s, and even have live demonstrations. It’s a beautiful park to spend a lazy afternoon in, take part in cultural enrichment events and it’s open year round!

There were 3 historical re in actors, during our tour around the site. They shared an amazing wealth of information about life during 1600s as English colonist/soldier. I could have stayed all day. I would highly recommend a visit to Henricus Colony. I knocked off a star because the facility deserves better funding as there was a great need to repair many of the facilities.

Pretty neat 4 (really 4.3 when you account the walk back to the parking lot) mile loop through nature to run/walk. It’s pretty bumpy for a stroller but we made it. The historical park looks empty. It’s well taken care of but the only person we ever saw was the woman at the gift shop.

I love the place and the lady at the gift/ information desk was real nice. She was very polite and communicated very appropriately about many topics I always wanted advice on. She shed some light on the history of the country country being founded and other information I found intriguing. The walkway was very neat and trimmed. The people in the consumes enacting the old times were very well dressed to the times. Will visit again

I love going here! The people who work here are so knowledgeable and fun to talk to, not to mention they are the ones who build the historical buildings you see. Although its cheap to get into if you dont have the money you can easily walk behind the historical site to a place you can grill, have a picnic, or play Pokemon Go as the site surrounding the park has 3 gyms and multiple pokéstops making this place fun for the whole family.

Each part of the site has its guides in historical attire, who is ready to tell you the colorfull story full of real facts. I liked a lot this excursion :-).

Henricus Historical Park is a truly wonderful place where you can immersively experience and learn the history of the American Revolution and the Civil War. Its a great place to bring family and friends!I visited Henricus Park for the annual event of the Reenactment of the American Revolution battles. The event was superbly organized. The actors were so passionate about the history --- they were able to tell anything and everything in much detail about the 18th century in America. In addition to the actors, you will also see 18th and 19th century-looking buildings. There is also live stock such as hens, pigs and goats. There were clean bathroom facilities. Though there is no paved path, the place is generally accessible for the people with disabilities.I wish they had food trucks for lunch for such big events like the reenactment of the American Revolution battles. I would have spent the entire day there, but had to leave because my hunger levels were quite high!I ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMEND this place to anyone who lives in or visits Virginia. Henricus Historical Park should be on everyones must-see must-do list!

Great for the real history buff. They seem like they are working on the place so Id expect more in the future. Very understaffed the day we toured, if it hadnt been for one very knowledgeable and personable roleplaying worker with the gift of gab we would have be truly disappointed. Id like to go back on a weekend when they had a special event going on and there was more interaction. The livestock werent very talkative.

They have made amazing strides in creating a unique experience. The period attired characters are a fountain of information. They are not just actors but historians as well and are pleasant to talk to. Some of the buildings were actually built by them by hand using 17th century techniques. This an almost unknown park for being the site of the 2nd colony in Virginia and home to John Rolfe and Thomas Dale. A must see if you are in the area!

Review №67

Very run down. The staff are great but the buildings are old and decrepit. The original Henricus never got this old. Also, the fort has trees growing right up to its walls. Not very realistic. Thegardens are completely untended, and appear to have been so for some time. Tools are left laying out in the weather. It gives the whole place a MAJOR fake feel.On the plus side, they work with real food and fire, for demonstrations. Many historical sites do not. The interpreters are pretty knowledgeable too. It comes across as some individuals there are trying despite a management with a policy of not caring.Interesting place but dont go out of your way.
