Great local place to get yer nature on. Easy quick trails. Some of the trails can be navigated with a stroller and are easy enough for small kids. Dog friendly place.
Had a picnic here after a stop at Treehouse and a deli. It was very quiet and we got a taste of nature when a beautiful hawk swooped down to grab a bunny. He missed.
Our favorite place to hike! We come a couple times a week.
Capen Hill is a gem in Charlton. The trails are well marked and well maintained. It is always quiet, peaceful, and a great place to get away for a couple minutes. My dogs love it there, and their events are great, too.
This is a beautiful sanctuary with a amazing and welcoming staff!they have a plentiful number of trails which are wide and well-maintained. Stopping at the main building and see some of the rescue birds and other critters that call it home!
We actually lived here for about one year in 2013. Is is an experience I would cherish for lifetime. We truly experienced living in the middle of nature. If you come hear to see hundred of exotic birds, you will be disappointed. But there are few exotic parrots and other birds here and few other animals. Barbara takes amazing care of this place. She maintains this place like her own house. There are some nice trails for easy afternoon hike. This place does organize summer camp and birthday parties. I have only one complain, town of Charlton does not take care of the road to the sanctuary and the road is horrible. Please drive carefully on Capen Road, the sanctuary is all the way to the end. Especially in winter if the caretaker (another nice and caring fellow) does not plow snow, it becomes very difficult to reach inside. Please keep in mind this place is surviving mostly on donation from peers, so please show your generosity while you visit.
I was there this morning paid $15.00 searched for 2 hours and didnt findOne egg with with a numberGranddaughter was disappointed
A nice visitor center (with a restroom). Good number of scenic trails to hike.
Again, reluctant to go 5 stars. The reason being, no-one was around. I love this place so much that I have to battle with being honest about my review. Part of me ( a large part) wants to give them a not-so-kind review with the thought of deterring people from going. I have visited here for so many years and always left feeling refreshed and at peace. It reminds me that we share this planet and that all the other inhabitants need is a place that they can live. Spend 4 or 5 hours there and exercise your senses. Pack a lunch and relax. These people do a good thing!!!
Perfect for any level hiker
They had an Easter Egg hunt for the kids. Very well done.
What a great hidden treasure. Wear bug spray the streams and vernal pools are breeding grounds for mosquitos. However, the area is great and the people are very nice. They have many fun events during the year.
Great place to relax and explore
My boys have been attending Nature Camp here since they were old enough to go. Its a great program, run by wonderful people, and an excellent experience for the kids. Think frog ponds, turtles, bird watching and more. No bells and whistles, just the basics and they learn A LOT.
Very nice area. The trails are well taken care of. Peaceful area.
Small trails. Good for quick hikes.
Great hiking spot for kids. Nice vernal pools with frogs and fairy shrimp. Very well marked trails.
Real cute little place, leisurely walking trails and an adorable visitor center. Great place for young kids.
