This is a single floor play place for kids to discover and learn using every bit of their imagination. There are lots of different activities for all ages of kids, though Id say by 10 years old the excitement wont last more than a couple hours. With your 8 dollar per person tickets you can come and go all day, though, which is really nice because its right on the mall where there are many eating options if the kiddos need to take a break. At certain times there are also adult led art activities.

We visited here on a weekday afternoon for about two hours and our children had a blast (a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old). Place offers a number of activities for different age groups. Just to name a few, they have train sets, cabin room, magnet walls, music room, and pretend bakery and cafe. Some are at the back, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to check out every spot! Admission is $8 per person and if you park in the garage, first hour is free and you can get a voucher from the museum for the second hour.

Although it isnt very big, it is very cool. There are several stations for kids to play in. There are some really cool activities there that are geared for kids off different ages. The staff was really friendly and helpful. They were really on top of picking things up so the kids dont have to do much cleaning themselves. If you are in Charlottesville and have kids, this place should definitely be on your list of places to go!

I wish I could have more time to be able to return with my little ones to this place recently we went with a small school group with my 4 year old son. I see that some things have changed and now it is much more good than I remembered. I definitely recommend it for families with small children take them and enjoy each of their activities and playgrounds

A wonderful childrens museum, full of activities for kids of all ages! I brought my four daughters, ages 1-7, to the museum last week and they were immediately enthralled. Some items were similar to other childrens museums we have been to, but some were totally unique. We especially loved Little Cville, the newest edition in the back gallery. We will definitely be back regularly!

We went on a Monday around 11am and the place was a complete madhouse. There should be a limit to the number of children allowed in at once. My three year old was totally overwhelmed and couldnt get a turn with the activities. We left and came back after lunch which did thin the crowd, but all the toys were scattered all over the place and we were having to track down the parts and pieces to everything because nothing was reorganized after the insanity of the morning. Do not recommend.

Fun for kids up to 6 years old. A variety of different exhibits they can play with to learn tons of different things. Our 2 and 1/2 year old had a blast playing with everything and the other kids. Definately reccomend this to parents with kids to have them learn and socialize with others.

Awesome place, really good for toddlers. Usually pretty busy, so get ready for plenty of stimulation --- just comes with the territory Kids need to have an eye kept on them since there are a lot of really little ones around and accidents could happen. Really fun place! My kids love it. I actually have fun too.

While this is a nice place to go inside and let the little ones play, I dont think they ever try to fix broken toys or replace missing items. It defeats the purpose of the experience of there is no money in the banking area, the mailmans bag is broken, and the register cannot be opened.

Awesome place. They have a lot of hand-on science projects, a music room with different kinds of toy instruments, legos, a gaint doll house, a real antique wooden cabin, a babys play space (sensory studio) and so on. The museum also has classes in the mornings. We usually go there to have the classes (free with admission) first then let the kids to play. It is a perfect place for my children to learn and play at the same time.

This place does a good job entertaining small children. There is a craft room and music room all sorts of fun things for children and toddlers to explore and learn. we have a three month membership because it was almost cheaper to do that than a one day. worth it as we have been back plenty of times and my son loves playing there. there are lots of blocks and toys and art and craft room he loves to paint and color in. I recommend this to anybody with small children especially on a cold rainy day. I would park at the market Street garage get your parking validated

This museum is absolutely wonderful. They do a great job with space, and all of the exhibits were interested to our two-year-old son. There is a great section on beehives that includes a living hive. They have dress-up, doctor, and two separate farm stations. There is a sensory room for children 0 to 2 years, and our son loved the light board. The interactive ABCs were so great while he was learning his letters. Also, the membership gets you into so many other museums around the country!

The museum itself was well put together but the old lady at the front counter went through our group asking who each of us were (nicely enough she was looking to discount our tickets) and when she got to me I said I was these two dad and her husband pointing at my wife to which she replied, nope youre worthless... Why??? It was a totally Normal experience up until that point... Seems like she may becoming senile in her old age

This is best for young children, maybe Max age of 6 or 7. My two young children loved it. We have been to a few other Discovery Centers and although this one was the smallest we have ever seen, I found it refreshing and nice. This isnt a huge place where you have to follow your kids around or worry of losing them. It is also very clean and quite a bit to do. One thing I really liked here that I havent seen at other centers is that the employees out on the floor also interacted, helped, and played with the kids. We were there on Saturday, July 1st, 2017 in the morning. Thanks to the guys out there on the floor playing and helping the kids, you are fantastic. I really, really enjoyed my time there with my kids. A lot less stressful and loud and my kids really loved it too.

This was our second trip and it was a blast again!! The back room had been remodeled and the tractor was amazing!!The only complaint we have is that in the music room and the reading room there were tablets.I felt this was a distraction from the hands on instruments that were in the room and unnecessary. The children had awesome instruments to use and wanted to play on the tablet! In the reading room, it was disheartening to see them because children should know books, how the pages feel, how they turn not swipe. And if you want a writing experience for the children then set up an area with pencils, crayons, etc and let them doodle away.I have heard so many times from a preschool teacher that when a young child comes to their class, they are not familiar with books, not familiar with turning pages and instead are swiping their finger across. We will be back because overall we had so much fun!!

Extremely poor customer service. We had booked a birthday party and were informed 2 days before that they had a computer glitch and booked over our spot. Even though we booked our party first we were asked to move to a different day. There was no mention of discount or anything to make up for this. We had guests coming from out of town and wanted to keep it the same weekend so asked if Sunday was available. They are only open for private rentals on Sunday at a higher rate. The woman who spoke with us (Madeline) was rude and did not offer any apology. We were made to feel as if this was our fault. I would not recommend this place for a party. Even though we had the space privately Sunday it was disappointing. We booked the original time slot to enjoy extra play time after our scheduled party but you arent able to do that on Sunday. They made sure you were out of the place by 12:30. Given the circumstances you would have thought they would have been a little nicer as well. Both of the staff members there seemed like they did us a huge favor by coming in.We have a membership but do not plan to renew.

I really want to like the discovery museum but it is overpriced and my kids always end up with diarrhea after we visit, no matter how often I wash their hands. If it were cheaper, itd be a nice thing to do on rainy or cold days. It probably makes sense to get a membership (and probably cheaper in the long-run. Plus, if you visit often enough, your kids will probably develop an immunity to the diarrhea

Went here to waste a rainy day with our 18-month-old. At first I wasnt impressed, but the more we played, the more I really liked it. The guy working the front desk asked us if we were military (we are) so that we could get free admission for the Blue Star program. Since we had never heard of it, he then googled every museum in our area that participates and wrote them down for us, All the workers remained engaged with the kids, playing and interacting with them.
