My fiancé and I stayed at Baileys Retreat last summer and we loved it! The beautiful mountain views, cozy farmhouse, and quiet solitude were a wonderful getaway from the city life, not to mention the fantastic owners who we are happy to call friends. We adore the retreat so much that we also decided on that location for our couples photoshoot this spring. The setting turned out amazing for our photos! We will definitely go back again and again!

OMG, OMG staying here was above my expectations!! My son was a little concern about not having a TV, but we never missed it!! A family of deers were in the woods next to the cabin and came about 20feet from us as we were sitting on the deck having our morning coffee!! It was so peaceful and relaxing, I didnt want to leave! This place was my diamond in the rough??

My wife and I celebrated our mini-moon at Bill and Roseannes beautiful Cabin and Land this past weekend and cannot say enough how welcoming our gracious hosts were. The cabin was so beautiful and perfect; it was exactly what we expected, and the serenity of the cabin and the mountain is breathtaking!Charlottesville is only a few minutes away where we enjoyed fantastic food and drink. We absolutely will be returning to Baileys Retreat again!

Stayed at Cottage #4 on the last night of a Brooklyn-to-NOLA-and-back-again road trip. Start to finish exceptional experience. Clean, well-appointed cottage away from everything. Best night’s sleep of the ten day trip. Booked with Roseanne, met Bill in the morning, both were kind and generous. Spent the evening sipping cold beers on the deck with the crickets, frogs, and Milky Way. Well done.

In brief, be extremely careful about booking with Baileys Retreat and avoid cottage #2.Coming into town to attend a wedding, I was quite excited for a weekend in a seemingly nice cottage. I opted for cabin #2 because it cost a bit more than the others, so i assumed it may be slightly nicer. A few weeks prior to my reservation, I emailed the owners to ask about adding an additional guest. After receiving no response, I followed up, and was able to get a response. They asked that I leave the additional guest cost in cash on the counter at the timely our departure. No problem. However, upon arriving at the cottage, I was very surprised at the condition of the cottage. Factoring in that the fireplace can be used between October and March and our stay was in mid-September, I would assume a relatively smoke-free cabin. After opening every window for about an hour to try and bring in fresh air, I simply couldn’t breathe. Now, I do have a sensitivity to smoke, but never in all my years in smoky bars, houses, or countless evenings by the fire pit, have I had a sensation like that. It was as if somebody started a fire that week without opening the flue.I immediately called to express my concern and ask what could be done. They asked that I go to the next cottage over to see if it was similarly smokey. In order for me to “test” the adjacent cabin, I had to interrupt the family that was loading in to start their stay. Very awkward. I was told to ask if they would consider swapping, and of course, they didn’t desire to. Unfortunately, the only available place in the property did not have enough beds for the amount of guests we had. As a result, I apologized for the trouble and asked for a refund so I could find someplace else to stay, and was told they would get me, and I quote, “as close to a 100% refund as possible.”I received an automated confirmation email saying $0 refund due to cancellation later that evening. I figured this was just an automatic refund to allow them to re-rent the cabin. Totally understandable. A week went by, and after hearing nothing more, I decided to call and follow up figuring that whatever needed to be done on the back end would have been completed by that time. I was simply told, “the online booking system does not allow us to issue refunds.” I fail to see how this was not known previously, and how just because a website that you use to handle bookings doesn’t allow a refund from that end, why a refund could not otherwise be issued. The money gets to them somehow otherwise they wouldn’t have a business.Be very careful when booking from them and know this is not the understanding, hospitable, caring family business they try to portray themselves as on their website. I hope my hundreds of dollars will afford them a chimney sweep, or at least someone to check over a cabin before a stay. Beware.

We stayed for a long Labor Day weekend in this beautiful retreat cottage. We had absolutely everything we needed to complete a relaxing getaway. The cottage was very clean and well--kept. We loved the view from the lookout area and the deer were everywhere. It was nice to be so close to nature and the stillness of it all. We will definitely be back. Also, the welcome basket was a nice touch, very thoughtful.

This area is gorgeous. One of the best views in Charlottesville, in the viewing area, if you ask me! Lots of options for rentals. The owners of the land are magnificent! Nice quiet escape!

My friend and I spent 5 nights at Roseanne and Bills cottage. What a wonderful, relaxing and scenic experience. The cottage is immaculately clean, quaint and has everything you could possible need. We spent a lot of time on the private deck overlooking the beautiful grounds, with dozens of deer greeting us each morning and gathering again in the evening. Roseanne and Bill are fantastic hosts. We couldnt recommend Baileys Retreat more enthusiastically!

I’ve never felt like I’ve needed to leave a review, but here we go.Honestly- the place was dirty, our driver (the owner) was drinking a bottle of wine while driving + had multiple beers. His much younger wife then chased us out of the area while fighting with one of the visitors. She was upset we had more than 6 people in the house (we had 10 on the tour) and we had four people leave before 10 pm.The land and view are great. The disconnect between leadership was bad. There are a ton of better options for booze or wine tours.

My husband and I stayed in Baileys Retreat for our honeymoon. It was so peaceful and only minutes from downtown. We really enjoyed sitting out on the front porch, watching the sunset. The cabin was clean, welcoming, and spacious. We will certainly be returning!!! Thank you Roseanne and Bill be for being wonderful hosts!

As the phrase goes, “Virginia is for lovers” and we love the time we get to spend at Bailey’s Retreat. The newly paved entry road leads to the comfortable updated cottages with private decks overlooking a pastoral setting where wild life abounds—deer, squirrels, birds and an occasional rabbit and bear. The surprising appearance of a white fawn (picture attached) made the forest seem “enchanted”.Spectacular breathtaking sunsets can also be seen from the cottage deck or up the hill with a view of the mountains. Thank you Baileys for being such welcoming hosts and for sharing your little piece of paradise with your guests.Jack & Phyllis

We stayed at one of the cottages last year for the first time and it was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. We just rebooked to return and stay in the cabin. The view cannot be beat! We were looking for somewhere to kayak and Bill recommended Beaver Dam Reservoir which was really close to Baileys. Well be going back there, too! We had a great time visiting all the breweries and wineries. We live in Richmond and are only able to take off for a few days in the summer. Its the perfect spot to get away to without having to spend much time driving. Highly recommended.

21st Birthday/Mother- Daughter getaway in May. From my first inquiry on air bnb to our request for a late departure Roseanne was more than responsive and friendly. As everyone has said grounds are well maintained and serene. Deer visits everyday. Close to Charlottesville and a short drive to many vineyards. The cottage was clean well appointed. Good wifi. No TV but did not bother us in the least.Highly recommend!!!
