It is not hyperbole to say that The Actors Lab dramatically changed my life. Through JDs inspirational -- and yes, intense--coaching and his ability to identify and nurture my unique talents, I now enjoy creatively fulfilling work as an internationally produced playwright and performer. JD demands the very best from each of his students. When I started with the Actors Lab, I was a mom with two small kids who just wanted to reconnect with my acting days. What I got was so much more. I found my voice as an artist. Each week, I immersed myself in The Labs riveting, challenging and genuinely supportive atmosphere. JD expected -- no demanded -- that each of us bring our boldest, most fierce selves to our work. And it didnt matter whether I was performing that night or not. The monologues, skits, cold reads for the camera, etc. were always engaging because you knew that the actors were putting themselves out there--no hiding, no faking it. You brought your A game or you didnt stick around. JD pushed me to dig deeper, live bigger--and I will forever thank him for it.

I have studied at The Actors Lab for years & I can say without hesitation that it is one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I am constantly challenged to not only be a better actor/artist through the consistent honing of my craft, I am challenged to be a better human & to think bigger than ever.My journey from a green actor with a dream to The Voice stage, Nashville & many other projects & commercials of all sorts, began at The Actors Lab. Through an organized approach to the craft & business of acting, a system of goal setting & accountability, J.D. Lewis is a teacher that holds his students to a high standard and sets that standard by example. If you are serious about the business of acting, this is the place for you.

When I decided to return to Acting - I chose The Actor’s Lab with the expectation of what you normally receive at many Actors’ workshops- scene & monologue study, blah, blah. But I discovered it’s so much more. It focuses extensively on preparing you for TV/Film and Commercial auditions, how to self-tape CORRECTLY, as well as the dos and don’ts in the business of Acting, how to contact and get noticed by Agents and Casting Directors. On top of all that, the scene & monologue study is detailed, extensive and individualized. There is nothing “blah-blah” about it! What you take from it; is what you put in. I have to say, its Freaking Awesome to study and rehearse monologues and scenes with other encouraging, persistent, and crazy talented Actors! The Actors Lab provided the perfect environment where it enabled me to focus and commit to my career. It changed my life! I needed serious coaching to help me cultivate new habits to get to the next level. JD Lewis took the time to help me discover my weaknesses & strengths and nurture those natural talents to bring out the one magical component many Actors miss. Telling you will never say enough. You’ll have to show yourself through that door and be responsible to change your own life!

Having studied at the Actors Lab I cant begin to say how powerful this class is - from learning the craft of acting to learning the business of acting actors are consistently growing in big bold ways. J.D. is a genius teacher and knows exactly how to give notes and teach in a way that is tangible and on point for any situation you may find yourself in - be it in the audition room or on set. This is the place to study.

Starting classes at the Actors Lab is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Class has not only changed by career but has changed my life as well. JD and all of the students at the lab are very welcoming to new comers, and JD has set the environment of class to be incredibly supportive of one another. I would highly suggest the Lab to anyone looking to improve their craft.

Went on a three-day Artists Weekend retreat for actors, which was hosted by acting coach, J.D. Lewis, founder of The Actors Lab. The premise behind this weekend was one of leveraging absolute self-worth. There, I noted J.D. as tireless in encouraging his students to break past any personal and professional barriers that might be keeping them from their ultimate success. This same commitment is mirrored in his acting classes …

The Actors Lab has changed the course of my career and life! Taking classes regularly on a weekly basis has helped me become a working actress, which I didnt think could be possible at one point. Ive only been taking classes at the lab for one year and the transformation Ive gone through is incredible! Forever grateful to JD Lewis for pushing his actors towards greatness. If youre looking to pursue this career path, but are unsure how to start or where to go, do yourself a favor and make sure you get to The Lab! I recommend these classes to ANY actor I encounter because thats just how much theyve helped me.

3 1/2 years ago I walked into the Lab with a dream of a second career. Because of JD Lewis and the family at the Lab that dream has quickly turned into reality. JD will push you to be your very best.

I used to study with JD Lewis in Charlotte. Hes a very toxic person that creates a personality cult around himself but if youre not one of the chosen, he will insult, mock and disrespect you in front of the class. He is NOT a safe person. It took me years to undo his negative teaching style. Plus, he really never was successful as an actor but bills himself as some super well-known and productive teacher. On IMDb he has old day player/guest star credits from the 80s & early 90s. He is truly the epitome of those who cant do, teach.

The reasons listed below are why I feel this deserves a one star.1) JD doesnt give a world build view on acting, he displays you and expects you to know what to do already. He isnt detailed on how to prepare your mind to connect with your actions. Doesnt world build at all!!!! The reason I give him one star is because his commercial coaching is actually top notch and outstanding.2) Classes are a total waste of time. Classes go from 7pm-10:30pm or even 11:30pm. However, the classes are so over packed that you end up sitting for 99% of the time because you have to wait your turn. You only get to personally act for a total of 5-10 minutes. Time is so wasted!!! At the beginning of class he goes around the room, person to person, asking each person what project they are working on. No one cares what other people are doing and I was taught to never tell anyone what youre working because someone could steal your job. Theres just so much wasted time.3) JD spends too much time talking politics, we dont care, nothing can change, this is acting class not Government 101. Again, wasted time. You would think him being from CA he would be open minded, not the case. He judges and doesnt like hearing feedback on how he could improve as a teacher..

I studied acting with J.D. Lewis at The Actor’s Lab for several years. What a memorable experience. His classes were deep, supportive and such fun. I transitioned from acting to become a Jazz Singer and use everything I learned from J. D.’s class when I work on a song. A good song is like a good monologue. There’s a beginning, middle and end, and truth to the lyrics (or text) enhances your performance skills.I learned the importance of this truth at The Acting Lab.J.D. became of my heroes in life too. He’s ethical, passionate and true to his word.Thank you J.D. I’ve never forgotten you.
