Very interesting museum. Here you will learn about North Carolina and mostly Chartlotte history. We had the opportunity to heard a great explanation from an excelent tour guide. She was very instructive, nice and friendly. The most beautiful and interesting part of the tour was to visit the oldest house in Charlotte. It was amazing to discover the way people used to live in the 18th century. What they used to eat, where they used to sleep, how they used to cook, and what they used to do for living. I hardly recommend this experience. It was very instructive. We had a pretty awesome tour lady. There is an awesome explanation about North Carolina flags too. The house was extremely beautiful and comfortable. Totally worth it.

Recently moved to NC and decided on this little gem as our first local history trip. The inside of the museum is beautiful, well-lit and open. Prepare to do lots of reading about the history of Hezekiah Alexander and Charlotte. There are some beautiful paintings in the Charlottes Road to Revolution exhibit by local artist Dan Nance and a nice little photography exhibit by photographer Daniel Coston. The real gem, however, is the guided tour of the history of the Hezekiah Alexander house and property. Our guide was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The grounds were beautiful and the tour was very informational. I highly recommend a visit!

I absolutely love this Museum! The staff here are wonderful with children! I went with my sons School and was impressed with the tour. Furthermore, the tour guides where educators and comfortable with children. They accurately portrayed people of that time and provided a great deal of information about the colonial period here in Charlotte. Families should go learn about the history of Charlotte!

The staff told me a tour was getting ready to start...They asked if I’d like to join the tour... I’m so happy I went on the tour... Great tour of the property, great tour guide, great staff, & I also enjoyed the art exhibit after the tour was over! I will definitely return, & I’ve been spreading the word on this being a great place to visit!

Recently held my wedding at this location and on the day of my wedding the event coordinator Tracy and her staff attempted to ruin my day. They locked my guest into the venue without letting me know what was going on and then refused to let one of my guest go to her car to get a change of clothes for their child because the child used the bathroom on themselves. She completely bashed the caterer and their ethics to me on numerous occasions. I’m glad that i didn’t listen to her. So rude and unprofessional.

I have been a patron of the museum for several years and I am impressed at the forward thinking of new leadership. No longer focused soley on Colonial history, the museum now includes other eras of Charlottes history and is striving to be more inclusive to new residents from far and wide. They have also made strategic partnerships with other groups in the community. The recent African American history celebration was a well planned event that focused on the arts.

A rather small museum, but totally worth it, the stone house alone is just amazing! Hezekiah Alexanders Homesite takes you back to the 1770s, being the oldest house in Mecklenburg County. There is a short guided tour every hour, the guide takes you into the house and tells you all about the life in those times. The tour ends with the bell of freedom, which has a hornet and the phrase remember that you are free on it. Theres a story about why Charlotte was called a hornets nest. The museum building is a 2 story self guided exhibition, featuring historical facts and artefacts as well as a photo exhibition of famous people that visited Charlotte and a creek and rivers pollution/ preservation awareness exhibition throughout the evolution of Charlotte as a city. Overall took about 2 hours. We surely enjoyed it, how about you?

I thought this tour was nice, and it actually was, until I found out the tour guide left out a vital piece of info. resulting in my downside. The older lady, who gave a wonderful presentation btw, did not mention the fact that the slave house we were sitting in, the one made out of wood and chinking, was actually made by the slaves and that’s the house that the Alexanders used as their kitchen. This made me a little upset, bc, the way she described it, she made it seem like it was just a house inhabited by the slaves (whom she referred to as “the Africans”) and never once said that it was the same kitchen that the Alexanders used; which was not a separate house. Sadly disappointed. The other tour guide, Angel, who gave a tour of the house was also not that nice to the kids and was impatient. She wasn’t also very fond of answering my questions, btw, when I asked about the “kitchen”. Nice field trip, I would say, on behalf of the school, but not a trip I would take my child to on a regular day.

We were very disappointed in our planned visit today as we were turned away from admittance at 4 pm. Both the museum website and the sign outside the museum said they closed at 5, but the woman inside said that they were closed for a private event! The staff was very unapologetic, we were shafted, and they didnt appear to care. Clearly, the revenue from the event is more important than both their published hours and concern for the public.

I think I may know what the problem is , Its the nasty attitude of the older women directors that seem to in charge of customer relations, so cold and unattached, bitter, angry, etc. Someone that is in charge of operations needs to investigate and get them out of there before the museum of history is really history.
