We had a fabulous time attending the night ghost tour at Historic Rosedale. The tour was led by the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society who showed us evidence and shared first hand accounts of the experiences they have encountered while on the property. All of the tour guides were great to listen to and exceptionally knowledgeable of the workings of the home. From its completion in the 19th century all they way up to its last private residence in the 1980’s. An estate that has seen many changes, over the years and unfortunately just as many deaths created an interesting setting for us to be enlightened with the tales of 19th century living in the Queen City. Because of Covid-19 we were not granted access inside the home. The tour was small to allow for safety and social distancing. That attention to detail was much appreciated. The gardens and grounds were just as beautiful at night as I am sure they are in the day. This was my first time to Rosedale and I can’t wait to return for a daytime tour and another ghost tour!

A lot to explore on a small property. It cost $2 to walk the grounds, and since I am traveling with my dogs, I was only interested in walking the grounds. The house exterior is very well maintained. The gardens have 3 sections and are located to the left of the house. In the back to the left is a large covered area for events. Located in the back is the visitors center/office where you pay for admission. In the same building is where the restrooms are located. To my surprise, the ladies room is nice!!! Probably because they do special events, like wedding there. To the right of the house is a nice trail through a small arboretum. There is also a blacksmith house with an exhibit to the right place f the house where the parking area is. I visited this day, January. I am sure the property looks even more beautiful in the Spring to Fall. There are some flowering trees/bushes when I visited. In addition to the admission fee, you can make a donation to help maintain the property. The donation box is located on the counter where you pay your admission fee. If no one is there, you can pay your fee using the envelopes hanging in the door of the visitors center. Please bring cash, just in case. I really enjoyed my walk around the property. I walked a little over a mile around the entire property included the trails.

Very neat place to take kids to learn about history of the area and how some people lived in the 1800s. This is a self guided tour, where you walk through the house from the basement all the way to the attic. The tour guides were very helpful and were able to provide a lot of information. It will only take about an hour to get through.

My wife and I had the luxury of attending an Oyster Roast here one year and had a tremendous time. We took the kiddos and they were able to tour the grounds, see the historic house and see an actual metal-smith in the metal shop out back.I cannot thank those who not only preserve such historic locations but also the volunteers that usually are the face and personalities of such locations. The kids had such a blast running around the grounds and exploring the house. Given that the tour is self guided, the kids had the illusion they were exploring uncharted areas and making new discoveries.

Visiting Rosedale was a wonderful experience. Being only a few miles from uptown, it is a Stark contrast to its surroundings. The garden is gorgeous to tour. The aged trees are enjoyable to relax under. The tour of the house is a wonderful way to learn about what sets this Charlotte area working plantation separate from your typical southern plantation.

A small group of us went for the new Ghost Tours at the Rosedale Plantation. The history of the home as well as the stories of spirit encounters were very interesting! I would love to see the home during the day so we can explore other parts of the home that the nighttime tour did not allow us to see. My only suggestion would be to furnish it more with appropriate furniture from that era. The largest room in the home was empty with very little furniture, I would have loved to see what decor may have been like for the family.

Great place to visit while youre in Charlotte. Its not every day you get a chance to see a home thats over 200 years old thats in this good of condition from cellar to attic. The tour through the home lasted for over two hours, which is more than is designated to other homes of this size that Ive toured. Our tour guide did a thorough job of enlightening us on the history of the home and the former occupants.

In a city which regularly reinvents itself, this 19th century house and grounds are a wonderful find. You can tour the house which is a vernacular example of the tripartite house type so popular in the early Federal period and had some good woodwork inside. While the house is near downtown Charlotte the setting is a green oasis and you can almost step back in time. The tour of the house lasts about an hour and talks about the two families that owned the house and farm, and about life in antebellum Mecklenburg County. It was informative and enjoyable.

This place was awesome. Jeff, our tour guide, was the bomb! He had a nice personality, seemed passionate about the plantation, very informative, and had a likable sense of humor. (It probably helped that we were the only ones on the tour, but, still...) It was great to be able to go into each and every room and touch and feel the artifacts. The stories of the residents from years past were interesting and intriguing. Again, Jeff was amazing, this site was intriguing, and the grounds were lovely. I highly recommend this site to any locals or visitors.

Some materials used in preserving the house are historically inaccurate and cheap, taking away from the homes beauty, but only if you notice and care about the fine details. Tour quality is spotty too (some too short and not enough information provided for the ticket price), depending on your guide. But workers still seem passionate about history and the property, and the gardens are lovely.

Not what you would expect from a plantation.A total rip off in my view. For $12 each, you visit a small 200 year old house , that belonged to a tax collector who lost his property after just 4 years. The house was supposedly surrounded by acres of land, where they would grow corn. Their main business however was the smithy. The owner only seemed to have a couple of servants. The house is now surrounded by new constructions, car dealerships and roadside restaurants. The story surrounding this house and its owners is quite poor. They hardly have any historical evidence. The only great story would be the typical indiscretion of the owner with his servant. It is clear they are trying to make money to pay for repairs needed in the house. I wish I could be kinder, however I would advise visitors to spend their money elsewhere.

The Easter Egg Hunt was a rip off if you ask me. I paid 10.73 for my child to technically find eggs for 5-10 mins. I thought that because this was a paid event that there would be other things going on to get my moneys worth. Because there was no refreshments or Easter bunny to take pictures with not even someone at least face painting, I assumed that my child can go all 3 rounds of the hunt. I was mistakenly wrong ( I guess I should have read it better). I was asked did I pay for all 3 and with the puzzled look on my face I replied no, I thought it was all 3 rounds. I left with the feelings that this should have been a free event because there was nothing special about it. I could have done this in my own backyard. Was not impressed at all. The staff was nice. I guess that was the only plus.
