The history and exhibits are well written here. Enjoyed the 30-min ferry ride over to Fort Sumter. You get to see the shorelines, islands, bridges, Charleston peninsula, lighthouse from a distance, several fort locations, the aircraft carrier docked across the bay, U.S.S. Yorktown, on the way. The museum in the fort is closed due to COVID but the exhibits in Liberty Center are open. There is a gift shop in the center & a smaller one at the fort. Ferries run on specific reduced times now so check online. Ferry has 3 decks. Lower is well air conditioned. Middle deck is enclosed but too warm for the summer but has the snack bar. The upper deck is open & is great for photography. Nice breezes but sitting in sun is hot. Chairs are spread out for social distancing. Worth every penny to spend 1/2 a day!!

Liberty Square apparently is the area you cross to get to the aquarium and the boat to Fort Sumter. Those are down by the water. On the other side theres a parking garage which is a great place to park your car. In between theres an open grassy area flanked by walking paths shaded by trees. There are low knee-high walls along the paths that kids and some adults will want to walk on. They are decorated regularly with little bronze starfish and similar sea-themed creatures. I assume they are there to deter skateboarders, but they also look pretty neat. Id call that good design.Theres also a fountain down toward the one end with steps leading into the water that seems to invite you to walk in and play, just like the more famous pineapple fountain on the waterfront. However, this is not what they wish for you to do, as two small signs reading please stay out of the water (or words to that effect) indicate that the water steps are just a bit of a tease. I would not call that good design.

I really enjoyed learning about Septima Clark and the role she played as an educator and advocate for literacy and civil rights. Take a few minutes to visit her fountain and reflect on her immortal words sometime.

I really like the Liberty Square park in Charleston. This green area that is part of the National Park Service surrounds the South Carolina Aquarium and the Fort Sumter Monument and has a nice wide open area that has a lawn, plenty of benches, a fountain, a covered area, and cool educational markers. The waterfront area is also really nice to catch views of the harbor and a nice breeze on a warm day. This location is very well maintained and clean at all times and is nice to have a place to go to on a nice day to enjoy some fresh air and even have a picnic or just run around and have fun. I have really enjoyed Liberty Square throughout the years and look forward to being able to come back here many times in the future.

Liberty Square is a very nice area with plenty of green space, shaded park benches, fountains, views of the harbour and plaques featuring historic quotes from prominent Americans. Here you can also read about the history of the wharf, book a tour to Ft Sumter, or tour the Charleston Acquarium. Not too far from the square many other sightseeing cruises can be booked.

Both the aquarium and the Fort Sumter tour are accessed from here. It is an easy to find location and should be on your tourist stop for sure. The small Fort Sumter museum is free of charge to walk through and observe as the actual island Fort is a ferry ride away. Great way to spend some time learning American history.

Nice area in Charleston. You can go to the aquarium, take a boat to Fort Sumter, take a boat tour around the harbor, check out the free museum, or just hang out on a pier or bench and enjoy the view. I walked along the coast and saw some great views. If you love the water views come to this place you wont be disappointed. Im from the San Francisco Bay area so I know a thing or two about great Bay views and I loved this place.
