Great open space, artificial turf next to Carmichael. The field has lighting. Parking is available on street using the Parkmobile app. $1.75 an hour, three hour maximum.

These turf fields are in pretty good condition... however the fields always seems to be damp at night, regardless of the weather in the day.

Bleachers or a rise to sit on would be great. There is not much room for spectators. Parking is easy in the deck, however!

Astro turf makes for a hard hot surface, no shade or seats for spectators. But nice fields for days when others are too wet.

These are the official intramural fields at UNC-Chapel Hill. In other words, these are recreational fields intended for casual use (think pickup games, intramurals) as well as for sports clubs. There are four fields, all roughly the size of a soccer or ultimate field. They are numbered #1-4, with #1 nearest to Carmichael Stadium and #4 nearest to the Government parking lot. They are mostly the same size although field #4 is a couple yards shorter. The turf is good, and playable year round. Its not perfect, and may hold standing water after large rainfalls. However its durable and feels great to run on.There are plenty of trash/recycling cans located around the complex. In addition, bathrooms and a water fountain are located at the south end of field #3. The bathroom is one of the few bathrooms located on campus that is open to public and does not require access through a building. It is cleaned regularly. One of the best features of the field are the evening lights, which switch on for field reservations like pickup and intramurals. The Government lot located directly on the east side of field #4 is where most users of the fields park their vehicles. It has an upper and lower deck. The lot is free for use after 5pm, although a ridiculous new nighttime parking policy is to go into effect August 14 2014, which might affect that. There are metered spaces sometimes available on South Rd at the north end of the complex (they are sometimes cordoned off due to sporting events in the vicinity). These spaces are free for use after 9pm, but again, this may change with the policy. So be aware. The fields are located near Carmichael residence hall, as well as various north campus halls and some midcampus halls. The fields are also a short walk from the school of law buildings and student union.Year-round there is regular sports pickup on the fields. Typically soccer and ultimate. I know ultimate is played Tues/Thurs late nights, not sure about soccer. During the semester intramurals often use up the fields for much of the evening, which can be a bother. But this is usually only in effect for a few weeks.
