Cool venue, nice place to rent out. Cash-only bar. Security is pretty much non-existent.

I dont know who manages this place and I dont know if the owner is aware of how bad this place is being managed.1. They only accept cash at the entrance and you have to pay to go in.2. They run out of specific beers after just an hour of opening.3. The DJ is late for the back room. Its 11:45 and he is not there. Last time I was told that he starts playing at 11. This place closes at 2. So come on!!They are pretty much the only club in Champaign but as soon as another place opens that is just decent, this place will probably go out of business.

It can get pretty rowdy in this space; there seem to be a lot of regulars which can be a good and bad thing. They do have CU Comedy shows in the back occasionally and those are always fun to go to. Bartender seemed more stern than friendly, but sometimes you just gotta get a drink and arent there to make small talk.

THE BOUNCER WAS EXTREMELY MEAN AND RACIST. I have been a regular at SOMA amd love going there. First time in two year the new bouncer for no reason did not let my friends and I in but was letting everyone else inside, just because we are of a different race! WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AGAIN TO ANYONE.

Yikes ! Price of the drinks went up from the last time I was there but I mean overall it’s a fun atmosphere. I will say the times I’ve been there , there’s soo many regulars which is kinda funny lol. Staff is alright but they could be better. Also they would always play the same music every week which is why I stopped going ! I honestly prefer this place over many though in Champaign don’t get me wrong.

The bartender was very rude person. it was on a Saturday night, I am Hispanic 60 years old. I order a drinks for my 23 year daughter and her men he carded us all which was okay. I then asked him about a different type of drink i was interested in trying he got a attitude and carded me again and the other two with me, when i try to ask why he carded us again. I then found out from others people that saw what happen that he is a terrible person/bartender who they avoid ordering drinks from. I forgot his name but i will not go back or recommend this bar.

Been going to Soma for awhile. Always enjoy myself. Especially on Wednesday night when there is House music and afrobeats. The vibes are amazing. However this past Wednesday, last night, the dj was different, playing chill music which is fine but, one of my friends wanted to request a song, so she asked the dj. When asking the dj my friend may have gotten a little close but that was because it was loud. The dj made a scene as to where it seemed my friend was going to fight her because she didnt know the song. She called security and had my friend kicked out and they didnt hear our side of the story. The dj even said if her friends wanna take her side kick them out too. So we all left because she was doing too much. The dj was a skinny girl with curly hair. This was very unprofessional and could have been handled a different way. Like I said before we loved going to Soma but after this experience dont know if well be back.

Only stayed in crowded front, was over it after 10 ish minutes $5 to get in tho was nice. Back dance floor was all salsa and two step music most people stayed at bar or front half with diff music, bartenders tend to ignore u for like 5 min before asking what u need, weird af bathrooms too.

The bouncers are way too impressed with their authority!

It is very expensive to purchase liquor. The security and bouncers are very rude and use force/touch you when they shouldnt. Most of the people that work there should get fired. Ive seen a lot of people getting pushed or getting denied entrance if they step out of the bar. THEY USE MORE FORCE THEN NEEDED. Avoid this bar if possible.

Comedy Comedy ComedyCome here for CU Comedy and thats it. Fantastic shows and the Tuttles are amazing comedians and professionals.

One of the security guys and a bouncer forced a friend of mine to chug his drink and put his hands on both of us at closing time. I think they need to do something about the staff in there because is very irresponsible from them to keep selling alcohol if they are close to closing time and later force you to chug your drink, put their hands on you(which they have no right to if you havent touch them at any point ) and push you out the door. This people should be fired and Im going to make sure they do. This happened Saturday nigh 5/20/17 oh and needles to say we asked for their names and ID numbers which they denied to us but I remember both of them, white males, about 6 ft tall one of them had a beard (I believe he was security )

Atmosphere is very classy. Keep in mind that most of the patrons aren;t college students, so the clientele there is better dressed and better well-behaved than other bars in town. The music played there is also varied and much better than other places on campus. The last time I went was on a thursday night, and the DJ has spinning a House set. Would definitely recommend.

Its nice to have a dance club in Champaign, but Soma can be a bit loud and crowded sometimes, particularly because the dance floor is actually pretty small. They do have a nice selection of alcohol (like some nice whiskeys) which are sometimes missing at other bars.

I would have given this place zero stars if it was possible. If you are looking to get sexually harassed, get sucker punched, and then held back security this is the place for you. Also if you want to discover a $600 tab after paying to have $1 drinks then again this is the place to go. If this does not sound like a good time AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Oh Soma. I wish I could give you a better rating, but you just dont deserve it.Downtown location for dancing though, so... Ill give you a 3.
