The old Jail is located on the corner of second St and East King St. In front of King Street Church and next to King St Ministry center. We parked by the ministry center. The old jail is a great place to visit. The tour lasted about one hour. We visited the first floor, the second floor, the yard and the dungeon. You can access different cells. This place is amazing. We called ahead to make sure that someone was going to be there to give us the tour.

Neat little museum full of history related to the area. Weve lived right next to Chambersburg for 2 years and didnt know a fraction about the history until we visited this place. Yes they charge, and yes its a guided tour, but you easily get your moneys worth.

THE best $5 tour we ever have taken. If you live in the area this should not be overlooked. Plenty of history all the way from the civil war up until its closing around 1971. For a small fee you can do research in the upstairs library. Glad they do the Halloween event again.

Weird little “museum”. On the day I went I was just passing through town, noticed it, and thought I’d check it out. The door was open and I spent about 20-25 minutes exploring the jail. I did not see one person the entire time. No employees or other guests at all. I wandered around the cell block, went in the yard to check out the stocks and gallows, did some more poking around, and left. Again, never saw another person. Honestly, that was my favorite part of this excursion. It was so weird! Also a really cool little jail with a three story cell block. Well maintained for its age.

They did a haunted house here this year. Was great. I enjoyed the costumea of the werewolves in one of the sectioned off rooms and the Alice in wonderland theme at the end was brilliant. :-)

We had an amazing experience. To actually step into a stop on the underground railroad... and watching my daughters take it all in, was beyond moving. We traveled up from DC just to visit this location. It is an amazing piece of history! I forgot the gentlemans name who gave us our tour. But, he was phenomenal. He was super helpful with showing up other places to visit while in Chambersburg, and even suggested a great local diner where we got some great food. If you want to travel back in time for a ridiculously inexpensive price... Visit The Old Jail! We definitely plan to go back in October for the escape the room experience.

Franklin county old jail is a wonderful tour especially for adults and children are like I kind of recommend myself I think eight and up there are details about hangings that happened there as part of our punishment and slavery details it a little much for anyone younger than say 8 to 10 but its well worth the price you pay for the tour and its a guaranteed to be something youve never seen before

Only down side was that we could not get a full tour due to prepping for the Haunted jail thing for all the trick or treaters. Other than that, great information on the history of Chambersburg.

What IS this place. Just another meaningless, uninteresting historical place taking up space. Its as though someone has made this lace up in order to receive grant money or something. But thats Franklin County, for you.

My family and I went here last Saturday, we thought it would be something fun and educational. After entering and walking around for a few minutes, we were approached an employee who was obviously on a massive power-trip, and told that there were no un-guided tours, and our only option was to pay $10 for an hour long tour, an offer I wasnt too keen on accepting. We have three small kids (one of them with a walker due to a broken leg) and I got the impression that we were very much NOT welcome there.Im not sure what their reason is for requiring all guests to be supervised, but I think its ridiculous. If youre going to charge admission, just make me pay at the door. It appears as if these people have created a reason for their jobs to exist. Its a real shame that they have chosen to do it this way, because I would have gladly made a donation larger than $10 afterwards, had my family not been chased out of there like a group of rambunctious teenagers. We will not be back.
