Been coming here occasionally throughout the years and never had a problem. Recent visit made me make a post. Bought 5 rummy noses tetra. Right after their 48 hour guarantee all 5 had died, 3 of my guppies died, and now im handling an ick outbreak in my tank. When I called them, they had no idea about any ick, Informed me that they do no quarantine/medication procedure when getting new fish, and didnt seem to care about making anything right. Could be a bad supplier, but nothing was done to alleviate that problem. Would rather not gamble with a store that has such a short guarantee and questionable suppliers as I would gladly pay more for healthy fish.

Just moved to the area and was excited to find an independent local fish store just minutes away. Picked up 6 Pygmy cories, but 3 of them died within 4 days. The store refused to replace, discount replacements, or work with me at all to find a reasonable solution. I would love to support a local fish store but its tough when they dont stand behind the health of their stock for more than 48 hours.

My boyfriend and I went to get some fish for our aquarium. Went there being told the day before they had a couple tiger oscars available and we showed up to none. Saw a fully grown red devil cichlid in a tank no where near the size it can healthy sustain life and thought we would rescue it. We had it for about a week and a half before it got sick and died. We then decided we would go back and get a tiger Oscar and not even an hour and a half of having the Oscar in our tank that is very well taken care of and has very healthy fish, it died. These people dont keep their place clean and they dont take care of their fish or their tanks. DO NOT buy from them. Im livid and Im honestly shocked theyre still in business. Oh! And there was a 6 to 8 inch Midas there today in the same tiny tank barely moving and was probably on the way out. This is a disgrace of a place and I dont usually write reviews but these animals are being compromised and I dont want this to happen to anyone else.

While other places can have more freshwater fish variety, this place is the best place to get them. Ask if they can get the species you want that they dont have in stock. I love their knowledge and talking to them to find ways to improve my tanks health and water testing. When I finally decide to try a simple saltwater tank this is going to be where I go as well.Also their idea to improve my joke prison tank for my convict cichlids now means Im going to do as we talked about to make their tank look like an underwater prison cell now. Cant wait to finish re-doing the background and base and find some ornaments to make it look like a prison cell to show them off better. When I do Ill get some pics to show it off how much I enjoyed their idea for my tank!

Meh... The selection is mostly overpriced and very basic and the shop looks like it is falling apart. You rarely will see anything truly unique from fresh to salt.. I honestly would rather spend my money at a Petco/Petsmart or Amazon. Better prices and selection on both fish and tanks. I understand that there arent many fish stores in our area, but NoVA can and should do better.

I brought 4 fish late last night from the store. Two of them were clown fish. During the way home, one of the clown fish was laying sideways. I thought it was due to stress but when I got home during the acclimate period, it was still laying sideways in the bag. I put all the fish in the tank, the other three are doing fine, swimming, eating and playing. The one clownfish is still sideways even the day after.I know the store policy is all sale is final, but the fish was sick even before putting in my tank from the store. People need to be mindful.

Got some feeders for a turtle with koi most of the fish had white film over them and 3 days later all of my koi and turtles were dead over $300 worth of animals dead never getting anything for here again

Our fish tank filter pump suddenly went bad following a routine cleaning and we needed replacement parts or a new filter in a hurry. Husband found the parts on Amazon but they would take more than a week to arrive. I called other local stores and found nothing. Then I called Centreville Aquarium and David was incredibly helpful. Had the part I was looking for and could advise me on a new filter system which I ended up buying in case our attempt to fix the 15 yr old pump doesnt work. They offered price matching (to Amazon) on some things but others they couldnt (makes sense since they pay rent on their brick and mortar!). I will definitely go back to buy fish once we get our system squared away. Completely worth the 30 minute drive. Great service!

Purchased 3 beautiful neon tetras and a Discus... and had my water tested as well and had perfect water. Left feeling well taken care of by Johnny. The tetras died within hours. I took them back and they gave me replacements for the tetras. Took them home, acclimated them and then they died within hours.... again. Called the store and spoke with a condescending guy who turned out to be the owner that said they wouldn’t replace them or a issue a refund because of policy. His policy.Careful with these guys because I’m out $35 for 3 tetras and was spoken to as though I knew nothing about how to care for my fish. The fish may be unhealthy, despite claims to the contrary. Be cautious and maybe look for a more customer service oriented business with a better live fish policy.

I’ve bought fish from this place a couple of times because I thought maybe it was my tank or my water or I was doing something off. No no no. I have found out that they super over medicate their tanks with massive amounts of chemicals in order to keep the fish looking they way they do in the store. Every single fish I’ve ever bought there has died with in a day. I have a Molly from petsmart that has been in my tank for going on 3 months and he’s well and happy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE. I will never be returning.

The fish prices are good. But their dry goods are very high. You can easily save at least 30% by going to Amazon but if you are purchasing a fish tank this place has a wide selection.

While the staff are friendly, the tanks are not very well-maintained. Poor lighting, Algae growth nd muck everywhere, dead fish everywhere, and ich everywhere. In addition, their fish are all slow moving, which is a sign of improper heat and/or over-medication.I pointed out that there were several tanks that had ich when I was in the store yesterday.They assured me that each tank had their own separate filter and that they are doing everything they could to make sure the ich wont spread to the other tanks....So I bought some neon tetras from another tank that looked like there was no ich, but as soon as I got them home, the ich was everywhere on the tetras, and killed my cory catfish with 6 hours. When trying to return them, I was told that my tank already had ich prior to the new fish so they wouldnt refund my money...BUT MY TANK IS BRAND NEW (WITH NO OTHER FISH) AND HAS BEEN FILTERING WATER FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS....I wouldnt mind shopping here if they cleaned up more and took care of their tanks better, but right now, I dont think Ill be returning....

I have mixed feelings about this aquarium, mostly because I come here often and usually its a hit or miss.While they have some interesting fish I dont usually see, they also tend to have quite a number of sick fish as well. This means things like Ich and fin rot might be something youll see often in the fish that you might get here. Definitely should quarantine your fishAsides that, the workers are friendly and will be happy to assist you.

I was happy with my experience here. It is a bit of a drive for me, but the people at my LFS are not very friendly. It was the opposite here, so worth it for my saltwater needs. The clerk (I should have gotten his name) was very friendly, helpful, etc. They had great specimens in stock at reasonable prices. I will be returning.

The fish are in pretty good shape as well as decently priced. I’ve been very pleased with all the fish I’ve purchased from them. They even have some pretty cool fish you don’t see at the big box stores! Selection is always changing but I’ve seen plenty of frontosa, green terror, puffers, and many other oddball fish.

This place has everything that an aquarist might need. They have knowledgeable, friendly staff and a good variety of supplies. The fancy goldfish I got there about six months ago is healthy and going strong. It’s really nice to see a pet store whose fish look happy and well taken care of. Every time I go to this store the employees are very helpful and happy to help. Highly recommended.

I really like this store. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They also have an extensive selection of aquarium decorations. Its a fun place to walk around and looks at what they have.

Pretty nice place. Pretty old fashioned. Not a lot of written pamphlets or information about the fish so youre pretty much relying on the people working there to tell you about the fish if you dont look up the info yourself. But nice selection. Some is quite overpriced, however.

Just purchased some kuhli loaches here a few hours aho, got them home and under real light and theyre all covered in ich. One has already died, others are in quarantine and being treated. Couple weeks ago, I purchased two dwarf gouramis and the same thing but thankfully recovered. Im livid and will never purchase fish here again, and I implore others to do the same.

I’ve shopped here multiple times and the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions i may have. Rock selection is good and decently priced. It’s a nice place to find fish you couldn’t find at a big box store.

Decent selection and friendly helpful staff, if they arent crazy busy. If you get the live fish delivery schedule from the staff you can have a good selection too look through or just go whenever and order what you are looking for. This is my regular go to place for my salt water aquarium needs.

This place was great! I was especially impressed by how much better they treat their Bettas so much better than most pet stores. They seem very healthy and vibrant and have plenty of room to swim. Their customer service was excellent—thank you Caleb and Brian (employees) for answering all my questions and being very patient with me as I hung around the store for way too long. They also have a great variety of affordable live food for fishies and lots of healthy, live plants. They are quite generous with their portions of java moss—which can be quite pricey normally. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Obviously its smaller than your massive big box stores(which arent soley fish), however, this places aquariums are extremely clean and well maintained. I saw other reviews of rude staff, I had an entirely different experience. Unfortunately I didnt get either of the names of the 2 employees working. The price I paid was comparable to other stores, but I dont mind paying more to support small businesses anyway. Ill be back!

I had a part break on my canister filter, Centreville Aquarium is at least 30 minutes away from me so I wanted to make sure they had the part before drove to the store. I called the store and asked if they had the part in stock after verifying the part and the model the part was for, the employee stated that they had the part in stock. As soon as I got off the phone, I drove to the store to get the part.Once I arrived at the store I looked around the store to try to find the part myself as well as grab a few other things I needed. After about 5 minutes, an employee finally asked if there was something he could help with.He looked around for a few minutes tried to give me the wrong part and finally went and got another employee. They both looked around a little more and told me “Yeah, we don’t have that it stock”. I explained that I had called less than an hour ago and was told it was in stock. He just responded with “maybe they misheard the part you were looking for?” I’m assuming these were the only two employees in the store, but they both acted like they had no idea what I was talking about when I said I had called to make sure the part was in stock.I asked if there was a manager I could speak to and the employee just responded with “No... not right now” and then went about his business.I left the rest of the stuff I was going to purchase and will have to go with a more reliable store. I’ll definitely be looking elsewhere for my aquarium supplies.

Fish are healthy. Staff are honest and knowledgeable. Free water testing. Good stock of aquariums and specialty equipment. Theyre very helpful if you want to start a new tank, or are fixing an older one. Use the big box stores for getting dog food. But if you have an aquarium, never, ever, bypass the local expert.

I have been coming here for about 3 years, I never leave disappointed as customer service is always great. If they don’t have a fish I need in stock they always offer to order it.

After some time looking at the reviews I have seen a lot of the bad ones are from years ago. Personally I have found their Rock selection to be amazing, and all their dry goods as well. I do agree with some of the workers arent the most knolegable. The fish selection could be better, but they have offred more salt water, and freshwater fish lately. Their RODI water is pretty cheap, and the owner in my opinion is very helpful and kind.

The only real game in town. Good thing its a good game! Knowledgeable staff who are all in to the hobby...not just petsmart drones. Great selection of fish, both salt and fresh, and usually in a variety of sizes.

Let me start by saying I have been in the customer service industry for 15+ years, and havent had an experience like this in a long while...Tonights experience was not the best at all... The ONLY reason I rated 2 stars, was the fact that One Young Man was very friendly(mustve been a new employee) and tried his best to be helpful, which he was in fact!*Even offered to take my water to the front for me, nice young man.This was my first time back after MANY years to this particular store, as I just got back into the hobby of Fish/Reef Keeping.I came in to get Saltwater for my fish tank; 4 gallons to be precise, and some coral. We felt rushed (my gf and I) and their variety of livestock was nothing even close to as special as it seemed to be years ago. The corals were all bleaching or dieing(except the 2 mushrooms), the Birdsnest Colony looked completely bleached, but 2-3 Very small sections and still had a Pricetag for it?!?!? We knew we arrived pretty late to the store, 7:45 so we KNEW we had to look fast to begin with(will be a point to this remark later).I could overhear what seemed to be the Manager(older gentlemen) talking about/training it seemed; how they were about to do this, that, take out the trash, etc so they could be out soon. Seemed as tho he was counting the minutes in his head...While I was looking at the Frozen Fish Foods, I hear the manager yell out from the back; 8PM!!. At that time I had both younger gentlemen with me up front, the helpful/kind one asked if I had any ? Or needed anything else. I asked a ?, he answered to the best of his ability and the other youngman helped him to answer it for me. The last thing I asked just curiously was how much the Refractometer was; $99.99!!! WOW!!, Compare to anything on Amazon right now...I am amazed this store is even there still!!! I understand how there is overhead/etc that goes along with owning a buisness as such, but this was a Terrible Experience... I will NOT be going back. Please look at going to other stores people. I never felt more rushed at any Local Fish Store EVER!!! You are supposed to make the guests feel Welcomed and Appreciated the Entire Time, not rushed/unwelcomed. This Manager needs to be disciplined, retrained. I would not wish for him to be fired as many rely on their jobs for their family; and wish that upon NOONE!!!!!Instead, I will not be going back to that store Anytime Soon, and will Deffinately tell those around me about my experience this evening...I brought $80 to spend on Coral/Nutrients/Supplements, but left with ONLY 4g of Saltwater...*I have included my receipt so management/owner can review this event.

Like any fish store buyers should beware and be knowledgeable when walking in. Do your research. Personally I wouldnt get live plants from here unless you already have nuisance snail killers in your tank. Buy them in the tube with a snail free guarantee. They might cost a little more but in the long run are easier than dealing with the snails! Know what a healthy fish looks like and get a small quarantine tank if in doubt. Staff is knowledgeable when they arent swamped. As for the owner Dave, his attitude is hit and miss. But I do believe he does know his fish and set ups. His employees arent going to know it all so make sure you at least know the basics before you purchase any fish! I think its cool they do take in unwanted fish and resell them. Very hard to find a place to take freshwater or saltwater fish. So overall they definitely arent the worst I have ever seen and not the best. For a little hole in the wall Aquarium shop they do pretty good.

Came in with my wife about an hour before closing to look at their selection of African Chiclids. A basic selection similar to what everyone else carries but they did have a few tanks with some nice Peacocks and other rare Africans.....and by rare I mean to the NOVA area fish stores. Staff was friendly and helpful, asked if I needed help when I walked in but let me browse without over doing the customer service. I ended up purchasing 5 fish, all of which are doing quite well in their new home! The new aquarium selection is generous and the supplies for fish keeping are broad as well. I recommend stopping though if youre close enough.

Ive visited this place a few times since moving to northern VA. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great diverse selection of fish considering its not a huge LFS. Ive picked up some plants and fish from them, very healthy all around. Theyve got a good assortment of tanks, scaping products and much more. Very glad this place is around!

Great store for anything you need. Prices are competitive for being a small business. The selection is hit or miss but, if you know what you want, they will order it for you. The staff are mostly younger adults so getting great customer support is hit or miss.

Great LFS (Local Fish Store) great selection of accessories, attachments, rock, substrate, tanks etc. This is what you want your LFS to look like. Prices range from great to fair. Most small items are cheaper then amazon. I do wish they had a larder selection of Live plants. But overall The store is great for fish selection and water change.

Even Petco, the king store of awful fish stock, has a better guarantee. I just spent over $70 on fish. Half were dead just within their 48 hour guarantee, and the rest dead the next morning. And these fish were placed in established, healthy tanks with other perfectly healthy fish. So it is very obviously NOT the tanks that were the issue. And there is no refund here. You get a fish credit. Whats the point of a fish credit if I REFUSE to buy fish from them ever again?

Nice shop, really friendly and helpful people. Stopped in with my kids to get a couple fish and ask a couple questions and they were very patient with the kids and knowledgeable regarding my questions.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Stuff is a bit more expensive than at a chain petstore but the fish are healthier and they have a wider variety. I highly recommend this place if youre looking for natural aquarium/terrarium decorations. Lots of different stones and woods.

I love this aquarium. I buy all my fish here. The fish are always extremely healthy. The main manager who owns the place, David, is so helpful. He knows so much about fresh and salt water tanks. He always has an interesting variety of fish. Nothing here seems to be too over priced for the quality youre given. Its also a great place to call if you have any questions on aquariums.

Highly highly highly recommend, anyone, whether long time hobbyist or new to the hobby, purchase your fish here rather than a Petco or Petsmart. The staff is young yet extremely knowledgeable of the fish there selling. Extremely welcoming and my first time experience was above and beyond highly recommend and will always come back here

They have very unique species of fish sometimes. You can also order the fish you want and they will call you when its in stock. These guys are very helpful. This store also sells live worms!

Theres a decent selection here and the staff seems to know more than just the basics of the hobby... However, theyre not always the friendliest bunch of people, and the prices can be pretty steep on dry goods. Their hours are really convenient, though.

We bought 3 cardinal tetras and a few decorative pieces for our tank from Centreville Aquarium. The next day I noticed the smallest fish swimming close to the top of the water and the next morning all of them were infected with Ick. So far, two of those fish died. I would not buy fish there again.

This is my go to local fish store in Northern Virginia. Staff is extremely knowledgeable. The store is very clean and they have a great selection of fresh/saltwater stock. This store also has a wide variety of supplies/ tank set ups on display. This is a store that I will support fully, to show how good they are I drive 20 miles from Lorton and pass 2 Petsmart’s and a Petco to get here and it’s well worth it.

Always friendly, always knowledgeable, the Centreville Aquarium is my go-to for any aquatic needs. Their selection of live aquatics, plants, and equipment is the best around and their prices are amazing. Definitely the best shop in the area.

They had everything I needed to start my shrimp tank. Including hard-to-find Hardscape like Dragon Stone and spider wood. The staff are very knowledgeable and very customer service oriented.

They have a good amount of offerings and regularly get in more shipments. (+3 stars.) That being said, they have dead and diseased fish in their overcrowded tanks. There doesnt appear to be any isolation tanks. (-2 stars).The staff was helpful and answered my questions.They do offer a 48 hour credit if the fish you get dies but you have to bring in the dead fish, which can be a bit of a pain if you are going to go from work and its hot outside making it difficult to leave a dead fish in your car.

I try to give places second chances. I have quite a fee friends in the aquarium hobby and they have all given me several differnt reason not to come here.From personal experience the live stock here is very low quality and over priced. Everything from fresh to salt water fish dont seem to do well past a week.The staffs knowlage it decent or just completely off.With the exception being the owner. He seems to know his stuff.pretty well.However- they have great dry goods, and good sales here and there.I have been told that most of their fish are wild caught and this is why they dont acclimate well to a new tank after arriving at the store.But in the ends its another aquarium store to visit, and I want to keep going there to hopefully turn this into a much more positive review.

Very nice to deal with. Their prices are a little high but Im a penny pincher. Staff is very knowledgeable and you can very easily get equipment advice. Current fish stock looked very healthy especially compared to what you see in box stores and they have a great selection of cichlids and tetras. I noticed there were a few nuisance snails on the plants in some tanks, I suggest getting an assassin snail itll handle the problem for you and save you money in the long run in a planted tank. They also have a great selection of well priced tank rock and a good selection of random filter parts.

This store has fish experts working there unlike Petco and PetSmart. They knew what my problems with my tank were and gave me simple steps to get it healthy again.

Watch out for these jokers. Called in for a Ruby Red Mandarin and they said they would reserve it. Drove 40 mins to pick it up and it was sold an hour earlier. I asked what was going on and all I got was I dont know what to tell you. Great customer service guys! Your 3.5 star rating is plunging even more.

Customer for years. Hours are great. Always courteous. Only place with blackworms for miles and miles. Salt and freshwater. Even some easy corals. Tons of dry goods and equip on hand. Frozen foods. Live brine shrimp. All kinds of saltwater livestock. Tanks, sand, rock, filters.

The location is convenient for me since I can stop in after work. Staff are nice, knowledgeable depending on who is there. Prices are good and competitive.Ive bought quite a few fish here. I get the impression that there is very quick fish turnover and the fish can be stressed out as a result. Ive had some unfortunate fatalities even with good husbandry at home.They have, or used to have a good variety of freshwater fish...unusual tetras, Oto catfish, pygmy cories, shrimp. I dont know if Ive just been going on off days but the variety has gone down significantly. Bottom line, Ive been disappointed lately but not enough to stop shopping here entirely. This just isnt my first choice for fish anymore.

Dave is great and this is one of the last decent fish stores in the area! Any fish from any pet store should be put in a holding tank for a few days to make sure everything is OK anyway. Why would anyone just throw new fish into your tank that you have spent so much time and money on? They will order any fish that youre interested in but I would do some price checks on products first.. But they have to make a little money somewhere or else close like most other good fish shops in the area!
