The Green Dragon Tavern & Museum is a good place to have a soup and sandwich for lunch. The food was ok. Because of Covid, dining is outside in their very large entrance patio. Service was very good because of the few people who were dining. We visited the museum and found it interesting, but thought they could do a better job identifying the content of the various displays of both original and copied artifacts. Inside is very clean and organized, it will be better after they are allowed to open up inside dining.

Absolutely Delicious! Every time we come here it’s better and better and I’m not sure how is that possible. Hands down this is one of the “best restaurants “ in Carlsbad if you are into amazing food. Even their Mac and cheese is incredible. Big enough for 2 or 3 kids, 2 adults can share for sure. I had the beet salad and it was incredible.if you are in Carlsbad, you absolutely have to stop in here.its more than a restaurant.

Love the food, was a little disappointed that they didnt have a nutrition fact label any where (it wasnt on their menu or online). I bring this point up because I for one like to count my calorie intake per day. Also I know it has historical value but I wasnt to keen on the dont tread on me flag. it was the first thing I saw when I walked in and in my opinion it didnt really match the aesthetic of a tavern.

The lobster roll (they have a choice of hot or cold, I got the hot with butter) was SO good I can barely remember anything else! Shepareds pie was ordered and I feel like it was on the small side, but for a single serving it wasnt bad. The museum is quaint, a few little displays (wish there was more). The interior is beautiful, spacious and airy and was impeccibly clean. I feel like service was a little slow but they may have been understaffed that day... we were not ignored or anything, just a tad slow, not a big deal. Ample parking.

Ive always wanted to visit this establishment and glad I finally did. I always wondered what this place was about. Tavern and Museum?Located in Carlsbad right off of interstate 5 and theres a lot of parking. Our server was Matt and he was absolutely professional and personable. He checked on us a few times and whenever we asked for something he was quick to get it.So Im told that this restaurant is similar to the one in Boston. I need to research and read up.Food:Cedar Plank SalmonBraised Short RibGlass of Cabernet SauvignonThe food was delicious. The Salmon was accompanied with a Chipotle Pesto Sauce and cooked perfectly. The short rib was so tender and great flavors. I wish there was some kind of acidic flavor.Overall, a very large restaurant, good food and awesome service.

Braised short rib, awful. You can snap the carrot in half, broccolini beyond dry, no sauce over short rib, potatoes dried clumps. Ordered Turkey Pot Pie, got shepards, which was pretty good.Drinks, not good, flavorless and $11 each.Chowder, too much bacon. Also, bacon in New England Chowder?Service, so so so very slow.During this time I like to give the benefit of the doubt and really take care of the servers/staff, and we still did. However, won’t be coming back.

Great place. My family and I have been to Boston and up and down the East Coast. Stepping into this building was like we transported there. The food was great and the staff was lovely. For not being in a East Coast museum they had great artifacts and information from The Boston Tea Party,The Salem Witch trials to a little history on who came over on the MayFlower and much more all in all it was a great experience.

Afraid of dining in? Dont! This place is CLEAN -youre much more likely to get sick from going into a grocery store. Servers wear masks & gloves and throw away the menus after it is used by a guest. Food is EXCELLENT here, so much to choose from and happy hour is great. The tavern burger is excellent- truffle fries are so good and if you wanna try the best Shepherds Pie ever, this is the place!! Seafood trio is also a family favorite.

I went here specifically for the lobster roll. They have a few different kinds. I got the Maine lobster roll. It was very large and very good. I was not disappointed. The lobster was stuffed into a huge piece of buttered grilled brioche bread. Our server, Matt, was great as well. We also liked the place mats with interesting historical information. They actually explained why a Boston tavern in Carlsbad, CA is named the Green Dragon. The restaurant is conveniently located right off of I-5.

Going to go with a marginal 4 stars. The Good: You can sit in the upstairs or downstairs dining areas, where you can watch sports and have a beer. Or you can sit in the quieter lounge area. They have a neat little museum with a Boston/Revolutionary War era theme. The service is fine, and most of the food is pretty good. The Bad: Its a pretty limited menu, and some of the entree sizes are less than generous. The fries always seem a little skimpy. My favorite: The Pastrami Burger. Not the healthiest choice, but very, very tasty.

This is a great day looking at all the Patriots. I never knew the museum was here. I didnt even know it existed. Evidence of our forefathers and what they did for our country exist here. The location is amazing. Very well maintained almost like a museum. Staff and service were both excellent. I honestly have no experience with New England cuisine so I might be way off on this review. As far as I thought the food tasted, and compaired to the plethora of other restaurants I have dined at, not very good. My wife thought the same. If the review was based strictly on food taste I would give it 3 stars. Also maybe food as a whole in New England just does not embrace the vast selection of fresh ingredients that we have access to in Southern California. Sadly the food was disappointing enough that we have never returned.

1st / only visit on mid afternoon Sunday. Light crowd, wide open roomy setting with menu offerings for all tastes and budgets. Wife, w very discriminating palate and leans toward vegetarian diet - w celiac considerations (absolutely No gluten) had a salmon burger (lettuce wrap-no bun) and a shareable mound of parmesan fries. Very pleased w flavor, texture and non-fishiness...maybe it was fresh? I opted for the Connecticut Lobster Roll, one of 3 variations - that came with a shareable sized dinner salad. My first experience w Lobster Rolls and definitely not my last. Generous portion of sweet chunks of pure lobster goodness (not tough or stringy) inside a split, butter grilled brioche bun. Paired with a Latitude 33 Blood Orange Ale on tap. All in all, Happy Spot.Do allow some time to browse the museum (free) right there, on premises, and its early Americana exhibits. Some real-deal documents and worthy factoids provided a full head of info to complement our full tummies. Definitely, well be back. The other 95% of the menu beckons.

Excellent meal for a fair price. Mother, father, and I were there in time for Happy Hour between 3 and 6 and decided to just do 5 appetizers for our meal! Each of them was delicious! I cant quite figure out why this place isnt more busy. The food is really good and for the price you get a really good quality entree with sides. A lot of places have the quality main at the same or more expensive price and then you have to buy the sides separate. Every time Ive been here (3 now) the service is also really good. And they have a good cocktail menu with usually a couple of seasonal cocktails. Its a different sort of venue but I have not been disappointed. I think more people should go here.

It was a bit noisy probably due to the fact there is no carpeting in main dining room. At 6:15 they had run out of the French dip sandwich. So we ordered burgers instead. Burgers are good. I was able to get a side salad instead of their delicious French fries. My sister had a grilled cheese sandwich which is large enough for leftovers. She really enjoyed it. She had it with their tomato bisque soup. The soup was too thick for her taste, but good flavor. This also came with French fries. There are a few other dishes I would like to try. They take the Passport card so we got a free meal. Its a family friendly restaurant. There is quite a bit of seating in the bar area. Check out there museum while there. It has some interesting American history. Give it a try.

Great place. Wish I had been years ago. Good East Coast quality food. The Green Dragon is named so after the famous tavern the Founding Fathers plotted the Boston Tea Party from (the original tavern was demolished in Boston). The owner boasts a respectable personal collection of Revolutionary Era documents and prints which he has made into a museum within the tavern. My advice; get a round of beers, order dinner, walk around the museum with your beers in hand, come back to your dinner waiting for you. Cant do that at the Smithsonian.
