The original Varsity Theater has been restored and is now a nicely-maintained performing arts center and small art gallery. The performances are often bargain-priced and the gallery is free. Carbondale is fortunate to have this gem.

We love watching the old movies here! I saw a lot of them here when they were new!

I love the nostalgia here, with the lights flashing on the Marquee, to the excitement that fills the room before a show starts, to the love the staff shares with the patrons, I am never disappointed when I come here.

I just watched The Holden Quartet on the balcony stage. Fantastic performance! I love that they mix music from the past in a new fresh style. I especially enjoyed their blues rifts. It was also great to see the Varsity theater from my youth being used in so many versatile ways. The art for sale was nice to see as well. I did like that they had the upcoming season of The Stage Co productions on display. I would have liked seeing a flyer or something about other upcoming events and any old movies they might be showing in the future also. I hope there will be more events like tonight in the future.

Went for New Year’s Eve event. It was very good. The Phonics were very good. Enjoyed the event more than I thought I would.

The Jimmy Bruno & Friends concert was a real delight. The sound system is clear as a bell....one of the best in southern Illinois. Did I say really good cold beer?

I have always loved attending events at the Varsity.

What a beautiful space. Great acoustics in the small theater. Not a bad seat in the house. And there are two more amazing theaters housed in the complex. Just loved it. Will return when we get back down that way.

Nice quaint theatre. Fantastic vibes and great cornerstone for the local performing arts. Also, an excellent platform to bring awareness to issues that would otherwise have a blind eye turned to.

It puts on a free show every 2nd and 4th Sunday for open mic comedy night. They support local artists and businesses. I noticed a list of local wines and brews to take in the theater.

This was my first time back in the Varsity since October 2002. It was an amazing, nostalgic experience and I loved ever second of my time back. If given the opportunity to spend that much more time there with other upcoming events, I will avail myself of that...

I love the Varsity. However, many shows are in a theatre that is not accessible. They do offer a free viewing on a television in the concession area.

Old theater with nothing interesting in it. Play of the Hobbit was imaginative in a few places, some costumes such as the dragon were great, but Orc and Troll costumes were terrible. Loved the barrel scene. Didnt like the way the author totally changed the fact that only Bilbo knew about the ring.

Saw Judas Iscariot on stage and the theatre was comfortable and clean. Artwork from local artists decorated the halls. Great experience!

Didnt LOVE it, but like the fact that people are trying to fix it up and bring in films that are foreign. It DOES have a very bad, old odor - like urine or something that is disconcerting - I am hoping with renovations this will be fixed.

Great place to catch a movie, band, play, or comedy show. Expansive beer selection at the bar and amazing cocktails. Definitely a Carbondale landmark

Love the ambiance! It was my first time to the theatre world when I first visited The Varsity Center, and I completely fell in love with it! Cheap ticket, especially for SIUC students.
