Awesome place to fish, boating, even rent one if you dont have one. Really nice sandy beach. Really cool place for me time, or Family time. So many areas rest, such cabins, cabanas, and even large suites to rent and even camping sites. Play grounds for the kids. A cool place to hang out in the hot summer months.

Tent camping reviewPros: Canyon Lake has awesome campsites. Tent camping is first come first serve, and with 200 sites you will most likely get a spot. Most of the sites have a grill and fire ring. The lake is a great place to cool off after you spend a couple of hours setting up camp. Both Canyon Lake and Randolph Rec area are well kept. There is plenty to do as well. Fishing, hiking, boat/kayak rentals. The country store has ice, drinks, floats, fishing poles, etc.Cons: Dont bother calling the main office, they wont pick up...ever. I asked them why they dont answer and they said they dont have time. The bungalows and lodges are always reserved six months out. Not really sure how youre suppose to reserve one if they dont answer the phone. Good luck getting one.Not exactly a quiet/peaceful place. Everyone camped out around us and in the lake were blaring loud music all day and into the night. Granted we were there Memorial Day weekend. If youre looking to take a shower, I would highly recommend buying biodegradable soap and bathing in the lake. The showers are like something out of a horror movie. For 200 sites there is one male shower and three female showers. They are disgusting. My wife said that only one shower worked and it flooded. She also said there was womens hygeine products on the floor. The male shower looks like it was a closet that was converted into a shower. The toilets are right on the other side of the shower curtain. So you get to smell whatever is wafting from there. The port-o-johns around the lake were pretty gross. One had feces smeared all on the inside.Shoreline and dock fishing is useless. With all the noise and boats I was surprised to see the one catfish in the lake. You can rent boats for a little over $200 a day, not including gas.Overall: I truly enjoyed my time at Canyon Lake. People are friendly and you dont have to worry about them stealing from you. The lake is clean and really nice. If you want to party and have a good time this is the place to go. Even with the terrible showers/toilets, it is still fun. I will be bringing my family back.Suggestions: It would be helpful if campers could know the status of the bungalows and lodges online. The bathrooms and toilet facilities need a huge upgrade.

The recreation area itself is nice, with good views of Canyon Lake and access for boating. Plenty of places to set up and have a picnic or party. My experience with the lodging options is mixed. There are plenty of lodging options, and some home really great views. However, many of the options are quite dated and should be renovated. Also the do-it-yourself cleaning for the next guest may reduce cost, but it means it isnt always clean for you. We had dirty dishes and a sticky floor from the previous tenant.

I have rented the Bungalows, the Loft (pet friendly) and will stay in 3 bedrm Cottage in Aug 2017.The staff have been very professional, accommodating, and easy to speak with and ensure our stay pleasant. The rental cost is just right in my opinion. The only issue I have is a single ID cardholder can only sponsor 10 people including children. Is you are having a birthday party for a family member you must exclude people. If a cardholder can use a covered area and be allowed as many guests as the area holds, plus the rental unit that would be fantastic.I do not know if it is allowed but I am going to ask. This place is quiet, full of nature. The beauty of the area and water. You truly never want to leave.

Nice lake, but the bath house was sub-par. Sink was missing, shower was a single nozzle that shot water into the dressing area. If this had been a US Navy facility it would have been clean and not such horrible disrepair. Unlikely to go back until new President freed money up to make this A1.

Great location, great shop and personnel are a plus. Wonderful weekend getaway facility.I have a motorhome and encountered a problem immediately. The trees need to be trimmed back from Camper parking sites. Was unable to park the unit due to overhanging limbs. Couldn’t park without trimming limbs back. The restroom/shower areas are a disgrace. The facility manager is doing a poor job of overseeing this facility. As the owner of multiple businesses, I would have the Command Authority to do a site review with the facility maintenance supervisor and rectify the multiple problems.. Super nice gentleman, but not a manager. Complacency has set in.The location is great, amenities are fantastic but needs proper supervision of the site by site manager.

We had a great weekend at cottage. However, it appears cleaning is left entirely to guests. There should be a deep cleaning at least once a month. We stayed in #16. We left it cleaner than we got it. We stayed on one the bunkhouses. The accommodations are nice as far as a bare bones can be. I marked it a 3 instead of 4 or 5 for two reasons. 1. There is only a single shower in the mens shower room to be shared by upwards of 25-50 men per day. Plus they only seem to clean to shower and restroom facilities once or twice a week. The biggest problem we experienced was very poor customer service. Right when we checked in the girl acted as if our appearance at her counter ruined her day. Customer service never got better the whole time we were there.

Very disappointed. We made the mistake of getting a reservation on the Army side of the recreation area. The staff were not well informed, acted as though we already knew the workings of the camp. The JBSA (Army) side of the swimming area bay was filthy. Next time we will reserve our RV spot with the Airforce at Randolph. The picture indicates the number of people using that side vs the Army side.

Better than most places to visit around canyon lake. Other than that they are pretty strict. So just follow rules and you wont be bothered. Only thing that could ruin your day is other people not minding their own business. As it is a small area you will be extremely close to other people and campers. And random people will grab your floats, boats, and other stuff. So be careful of your things.

We stayed in the rv area of Randolph side for four nights. The entire time the men toilet was out of order and only one shower was working. There is no way to adjust the temperature on the shower and its to hot. When we arrived the rv water hookup would not turn off. It was capped so the operators knew about it. No one came the entire week to fix it. What a waste of water. (Site 5). Work trucks constantly going the wrong way in a one way area. The place needs attention. Ive camped at Potters since the flood and they are in better condition than a military site. Sad.

However, anytime I have tried to call the numbers provided either are busy, ring to no answer, or a leave a message that was not ever returned...
