This arcade is a hidden gem in Cambridge. It is literally hidden behind Roxys Grilled Cheese on Mass Ave. After showing your ID at the front door (since this is a bar too), proceed through a swinging door and then a freezer door to enter the arcade. There were 10 new pinball machines, various older arcade games, skeebal, hoops and Mario Kart. I loved the pinball machines, especially Super Mario Bros. They say that they rotate different games in and out. There is a great atmosphere to this place. The DJ was cool on Sun night. I went 3 nights in a row and will defiently be back the next time I stay in Cambridge.Tip: You need to ask the bartenders or one of the servers for tokens to operate the machines. Some of the machines also take dollar bills.

I’ve been to a few other pinball/retro game bars before. A4cade definitely had the best cocktails, however having to pay for all the tokens wasn’t my favourite thing. It would have been nice to get even 2 or 3 with my drink.

Fun vibe tucked behind Roxy’s. The games are expensive but there’s a good variety (classic arcade, skee-ball, pinball, new games) and all the games are in excellent working order. There are clever cocktails, including some tiki options! The non-alcoholic drinks are also worth trying for a booze-free evening. It would be hard to spend more than an hour here without dumping a bunch of cash into it. But it’s still a fun hour!

Childhood dream come to life! What more could you want for a fun night of beer, pinball, skeeball and food to die for! They also have a number of vegetarian options on the menu. The servers will walk around and ask if youd like a drink while youre playing games. Its token based so need to bring quarters. They have a number of the old school arcade games as well as some classics like shuffleboard. There are two bars in either corner and make sure to check out how they designed the ceiling ;-)

Very cool vibe arcade bar with a (not so) hidden entrance. Great service and cool decor. We had a few bad experiences with some games. Lost a bunch of tokens in Terminator because one slot ate coins. The Donkey Kong joystick was also broken (can’t turn left) which we realized only after paying. Grilled cheese upfront at Roxy’s was bomb though!

One of the most interesting places in Boston for a gamer like me. From the outside it looks just like a nice grilled cheese and burger place and yet you step in to the door in the back then into what looks like a walk in fridge and you are in a retro arcade with two bars. Really brought me back to my arcading days.

Super trendy, cool concept. It’s definitely a fun place to check out. I went on a Saturday night in June around 830. There was a small line outside that I had to wait in until capacity went down. Their drinks are kinda pricey but the games were reasonable. Oh and they have Roxy’s Grilled Cheese.

I love A4cade. Fun place to go with friends or a unique date spot. After the bouncer checks your ID in the Roxys entrance you walk in through what looks like a giant freezer door to find an arcade for adults! They have a lot of classic games and can order food from the floor. One thing I think could be improved is that the an arcade is supposed to be a fun, chill hangout and the music is so loud you feel it feels like your at the Grand.

Great place for a fun night! Cool retro/nerdy style mix drinks, and a ton of videos games where you can grab a quick bite to eat and then game the night away. In the back room of Roxys lies a fun barcade full of pinball machines, one basketball machine, two skeeball machines, a dual console Mario Kart, dual console Cruisin USA (or derivative thereof), plus Terminator and Area51 shooting games... All with the benefit of to full service bars. Play is with tokens you can buy from servers or bartenders. Definitely a good time though can get crowded on weekends.Oh, theres also an Xbox one you can play at the bar in the back. Has Madden and Rocket League that I saw for sure. Not sure what other games.

Review №30

Great and fun concept, but BE WARNED - you will experience temporary hearing loss when you leave. The music is far too loud. You will seldom hear the full-volume arcade machines because of the DJ blasting their stuff. Theres no way around it - if you dont come into this place with earplugs, you are contributing to your own tinnitus. One other strange thing we observed is that there was a magnet in between the flippers on one of the pinball machines (South Park Pinball). Occasionally when the ball rolls slowly across the spot slightly above and between the flippers, it is apparent that theres a magnetic force acting upon the ball. I dont know if thats intentional or not, but Ive played that cabinet in other venues and never seen this occur.

Very cool concept and great food, but very overcrowded with not enough games to go around. Even when you did get a game the amount of tokens it cost versus the low amount of game time you actually got was a rip off for most machines. That said, I would go back, by try not to go during peak times

Roxys makes awesome food although the side items are limited. The arcade itself has a healthy variety with an excellent beer and cocktail selection thats decently priced. The arcade games themselves seem expensive compared to all-you-can-play places, but I think that may just be because with physical coins I ended up spending more time thinking about what to spend the money on.The food and drink are awesome here and competitively priced, but I think Id enjoy other one fee all you can play places for games.

ARCADE REVIEWAfter eating elsewhere, we came to A4cade as we heard some cool things about it. I had been to Lucky Strike which is a big arcade with a bar in Fenway so in my head I was doing the comparisons while I was there.A4Cade is tucked behind Roxys Grilled Cheese which looks really good but we had already eaten so thats not what this review is for.A4Cade is a fairly small room packed with Arcade games, from pinball, to pop a shot, to ski ball (as well as Mario Kart!). You can order drinks at the bar and then buy tokens to use the game. For $5, you get 20 tokens and games cost between 2 and 4 tokens. I was surprised that they didnt offer incentives to buy more tokens. $5 was for 20, $10 was for 40, and so on. I would charge less per token for larger quantities but also they seem to be doing fine so who am I to point out improvements.Drinks are about what you would expect in Boston but you can also order drinks in these heads of your favorite cartoon characters. Definitely, a fun place to discover things you wont find in other bars.A4Cade is much smaller than Lucky Strike but less kid-friendly which is definitely desirable for the 20s/30s crowd. Seems like a great place to take a date too.If I am in the neighborhood, Id love to come back and try Roxys!

I’m a US Citizen, but I work overseas. Not in the habit of taking my passport to a bar. The bouncer in the front did not recognize my foreign driving license and refused service. I produced a second ‘foreign’ ID with my birthday clearly on there. Still refuses. Enjoying a better meal elsewhere. I was so looking forward to getting that special and most coveted paper wristband (overkill entry control). A4 - you need to rethink entry criteria. Isn’t proof of age no longer acceptable?!?! Discrimination beyond imagination. Funny that I was able to get in last week. Don’t worry, your freebie liquor license is safe.

Had a decent time at the arcade, but so disappointed to see that the local seasonal beer from down the street that I ordered was $9 (price was unmarked since it rotates). A4cade is a gaming bar that has a lot of pinball machines and retro arcade games, ranging from Ms Pac-Man, Tetris, and Donkey Kong to skee-ball and hoops. My friend was disappointed to realize that some of the controls for Street Fighter werent working, so I guess not all of the games are perfectly maintained, but most of them are in good condition.A4cade is a pretty small space, so it gets REALLY loud and cramped. And if you dont get there early (6-7ish), youll have to wait in a line that goes out the door just to get in. (It is a 21+ establishment, so you cant even play the games if you dont bring your ID.) The token prices are more fair than most arcades though (20 tokens for $5, with each game usually costing 2 tokens), so at least you get a lot of value for your money.I did not try any of the food or drink, so I cant really comment on the quality, but their cocktail names are pretty hilarious (Princess Peachs Downfall: Toad, call me an Uber, for example). The decor is suitably nerdy to match, with paintings of Mario and Donkey Kong levels on the walls. All in all, A4cade is a fun night if you enjoy retro games and pinball machines. Just be aware of the cramped space, ID requirement, and potential wait time and plan accordingly.
